In time for this week's listen-through, here's a thread for Roy Gill's "Panic".
Panic on the streets of London, no less.
Technically we start on the listen-through tomorrow but if you want to shoot your bolt early (as it were) please do. I mean, the thread's out there now!

I already have it downloaded onto my phone ready to go. But at the earliest I can get to it is tomorrow. Looking forward to it as I love Roy's work on Dorian.

He's very good. I can heartily recommend his "Daemon Parallel" and "Werewolf Parallel" novels.

This story was really good. I love Susan Sullivan, and she and David Selby work great together. From what I read they are very good friends. Robin Goodman was good villain and the idea of the forest in the antique shop was very visual. I could almost see the lushness of it. The framing sequence with Tom is adorable and I love that they are really building on their relationship. I really love Quentin, and I like him more and more every time I hear him. I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress now that Lela is back in Quentin's life.

I love the Quentin and Tom relationship. It's astonishing to think it's so new when it already seems established and endearing.

They are an amazing pair aren't they? As mentioned in the recent podcast I loved them since they bonded in Bloodlust and it's nice to see Quentin continuing down a route where he's settled and happy.
I do love so many things about this one, Quentin and Lela sizzle (the whole" Lela Quick" name being a nice nod to Lela Swift who was a pioneer for women in TV on the original show) the fact I learned about Pan and anechoic chambers, and so on. Oh, and Holly. Poor poor Holly.
And of course John's "Dark Shadows is a Big Finish Production" just leaves you with a smile at the end.
If I were feeling lazy I'd call this a romp. And I am. So I will.

Now I want some French Toast. And yes Quentin & Tom were adorable. I loved how Tom kept interrupting him. And as this was my first introduction to Lela/Quentin have to say I was hooked. Lela is pretty awesome...a strong intelligent woman. And I thought her and Quentin had some lovely chemistry. I also found this story a lot of fun and atmospheric. Loved all the different locations from the antique shop, to the enchanted forest, and the university. I also really enjoyed the word play in this. Although I loved how the second part of the riddle was actually pretty simple. A great twist. I should have but actually didn't see it coming. Note: Roy Gill linked to a podcast about this ep but from the description If I were to guess this is probably better to listen to after next week... www.collinsporthistoricalsociety.com/2015/08/podcast-creating-this-years-dark.html?m=1

Yeah, we do discuss both in that one.
I'm really not interesting enough to be on my own in a podcast. Too new at this!

Lela is pretty awesome...a strong intelligent woman. And I thought her and Quentin had some lovely chemistry. I also found this story a lot of fun and atmospheric. Loved all the different locations from the antique shop, to the enchanted forest, and the university. This story is everyone's first introduction to Lela actually but I'm pretty impressed with her also. I really wish that things had worked out between Quentin and Amanda but generally Lela is a lovely contrast to some of the women that Quentin has been involved with, and I think she's also a very nice tribute to Lela Swift. It's a shame I actually saw so little of Dark Shadows when the OS originally aired. I probably would have watched more than the few episodes of Falcon Crest that I saw if I'd realized who David Selby was, but I do appreciate the reunion aspect of Panic and the chemistry between Selby and Sullivan. Agreed also about the atmosphere and interesting locations in the story, I think that all came across really well and this seemed a particularly easy (and fun) story to visualize. I'm really not interesting enough to be on my own in a podcast. Too new at this! Always a pleasure to hear you in a podcast, Rob. You have a wonderful, distinctive voice and a great accent. I'm sure it would be great to hear you in an audio sometime.

Sorry all, yesterday was not a good time for listening. I did manage to have a new listen during another snowy run. All this snow is what I get for my comment about listening not being the same without a blizzard or several.
Anyway, I enjoy Panic. Quentin adventure stories are not usually my favorite, but this one had enough word play to keep things interesting. I loved the follow up with Lelia and her introduction to the audios. I hope that she sticks around for the wedding, but then who's left to run Pandemonium Antiques?
Sorry Holly, while I understand the point, I always feel bad for the one off characters. At least she has a long life ahead of her. Good news is that this won't be the last time we hear the voice talents of Alexandra Donnachie.

All this snow is what I get for my comment about listening not being the same without a blizzard or several. Curiously, our weather went back from very Collinsport-like to frighteningly nice right about the time the Bloodlust listen-through ended. Both were lovely while they lasted. No idea what this means but personally I'm tempted to think all the Alaska in DC recently could be the Powers that Be responding to that Palin endorsement of Trump? I'm very impressed at anyone having the fortitude to listen to Snowflake in a blizzard. I don't think I could, I think the room suddenly gets about 15 degrees colder the minute I put that on.

Things were wonderful during the first few listens, hence my initial statement that it wouldn't be the same without either a blizzard every time I listened to Bloodlust or managing through trenches and tunnels through several feet of snow after.
Aw thanks BarnabasLives, I'm doing long distance training, so sudden psychological cooling down isn't the worst feeling I might experience during a run. I usually am listening to the audios, but will focus in more during trickier parts of a run. Once in a while, trying to fully immerse myself in audios doesn't work out if there's something particularly painful happening in them.

I believe it was a great choice for Panic to be the lead story after Bloodlust and its death and destruction... the word banter and actors were brilliant.
True Holly was negatively impacted but there is plenty of time for someone to come and undo the spell and then LHEA.
And who doesn't love Holly? Wink.

Just finished my re-listen. Mythology is a favorite playground of mine, so the fact that it plays a big part in this story is very fun.
I want to visit Pandemonium Antiques....that portal is some pretty cool s**t.
Alexandra Donnachie is so great here, and really shines with a character who is very NOT Jackie Tate! I love her reaction to Robin's forehead...the tone and affectation is so very visual! Thank you Alexandra--you join the ranks of some of the BEST voice actors. And poor Holly...did she really have to leave so quickly? (sorry...couldn't resist)
A great segue story from "Bloodlust"....looking forward to the journey.

I'm not sure I want to play any of the 78 rpm records I have in the basement after listen to that. Tom is going to turn into a master chef or have a heart attack from his diet. I'm up to the point where Lela and Quentin have to figure out the loophole. There must be a law that mythical characters have to offer a loophole in their contracts.

You REALLY should try Roy's Parallel books (or audiobooks) then, Tracy. They play beautifully with that kind of thing. (And I do mean 'play' - it's all very playful... with dark undertones...)

I actually bought the first one the other day. I haven't had the chance to read it yet though. The e-version is also pretty inexpensive on the Kindle.
