CD/NW -Vol2-Night Of The Vashta Nerada-John Dorney(Tom Baker as Doctor)This is the Doctor slightly dark, slightly edgy, alien the kind of Doctor encountered in Seeds of Doom.I like when Tom Baker is written this way.Sio glad i finally succumbed to the set, true i would have bought this episode if it had not been part of a set. They seem to like the fun/frolic Tom for most part in the 4DA but this is the slightly callous Doctor.Given the right script Tom still delivers. Its great he is the first to encounter the Vashta as it sits so well with Gothic Tom,travelling alone?Post Sarah ?Post Leela? I will skip the next two stories for a minute to see how MCGann holds up against these creatures Again, best story of the set. I am sad to say but Tom totally blows Paul out of the water in this one (and you know how much I like Paul). It is one of my favorite stories with Tom, he is amazing here and a fantastic characterization of the Doctor. Also, the story is just great.
In my opinion, this is also the best story of both Classic Doctors/ New Monsters sets.

Couldn’t agree with you more...Pauls story is good and gives a good indication of your theory on weaponising the Ravenous...it just would not end well 😂🤪

Survivors Series 8.
After a slew of single stories, the last two sets form a mighty 8-part epic on which to finish things. So much love has gone into every aspect of Survivors, it’s a crying shame there is to be no more. After the enjoyably traditional mix of action and drama of Bandits, there’s Robert, one of my favourite Big Finish stories from any series. The nearest thing to a comedy from Survivors, but of course, the humour is jet, jet black. This has moved me to buy writer Jane Slavin’s book. The character of Robert is introduced to us ‘playfully’ in that: at first, we don’t like him, then we do, then we don’t – and then we do. Mind you, even that doesn’t last long. Poor old Craig, played by Fifth Doctor companion George Watkins, whose contribution to this series is book-ended by mind-searing agonies, is a new recruit to Robert’s army, and even he is appalled by the actions of young Peter. Joel James Davison is extraordinarily good as this terrifying child man.
Roland Moore’s Village of Dust features a climactic countdown – a fine tribute to creator Terry Nation! It’s a fine set-closer in its own right and features some interesting dynamics between the characters, especially Peter and Abbey, and sets up events for the audio finale, which I’ll be listening to next week. That promises to be a bitter/sweet experience, much as it was the first time around …
Big Finish at its best.

With 2 of my top 3 Doctors facing the Vashta Nerada it’s amazing I hadn’t bought it before. But better late than never!

Time for an early night i feel as if i have been running rings around myself the last week at work...i like moody atmospheric bedtime listens so i kind of choose Iterations of I/Darkness of Glass/Seizure/ type stories and i totally love the one i have decided on...
MR-7DA -152-House Of Blue Fire-Mark Morris-(Sylvester)
The atmospheric Doctorless first half and totally eerie Sylvester entrance just seals this for me,its not everyone’s cup of tea but i enjoy these stories that deal with things that make Time Lords afraid.Want atmosphere...it has it in spades.good Night folks and pleasant dreams

The Diary of River Song Series 5: The Lifeboat and the Deathboat - lovely to hear Eric Roberts as the Master again, but I found the story muddled, though better towards the end. I’m not a fan of things starting in media res, so this didn’t off to a good start with me. But even apart from that I found it muddled, albeit saved by the performances.

The Diary of River Song Series 5: Concealed Weapon - a better story than ep 3, with shades of TV stories like “Robots of Death” and “Terror of the Vervoids”. But there’s way too little Derek Jacobi in there. But it does have nice links to the War Master boxes. And I liked the ending. Also Jacqueline King is quite unrecognisable

Carnacki-Ghost Hunter-Gateway of the Monster-William Hope Hodgsons-read Dan Starkey/Joseph KloskaA long standing fan of Doug Bradleys Spine Chillers series so after a period of not wanting to listen to straight narration preferring full cast i had avoided this. It took a few short trips and some companion chronicles to ease back into the style.I think mood and concentration have so much to do with my listening pleasure.the fact also when it was released it wasnt released on CD (i know ,i know lol)I still think BF should release at least 100 of these releases on CD or 20 lol. Anyways what can i say this is excellent great sound design and very beautifully narrated so as this was a free download which I hadn’t heard what can i say but here you go BF have another load of my money...😂 winter is coming and you cannot beat ghostly tales on those nights And an interesting author en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Hope_Hodgson

Gave another listen to Diary of River Song 4 - a superb set but it finally occurred to me that Someone I Once Knew could have had a happier ending and I don't mean for the Doctor and River. Doesn't stop it being a magnificent story, I just think it might have ended better.
Also listened to the latest Big Finish podcast - fun as always and I especially liked both the Dark Shadows and Fourth Doctor segments. Joe Lidster gives an excellent explanation of Dark Shadows as a series and I'm thrilled to think the producers have a good time working with Matthew Waterhouse who I think is a huge boon to the range.

Dark shadows audios really are an excellent range and i hope more people get the nerve to jump in and on board. What i do love about them is they dont need a knowledge of the TV show to enjoy, sure its a bonus but not a necessity .Joe and his team have done a wonderful job on these and they do deserve an even wider audience. The River sets are just fun and The Tom Baker one is great listening but must say i have enjoyed the whole of the River Series

For me, the Volume 4 River set is a close tie with Volume 5 for my favorite. It is just great and an improvement to the previous ones.
{Spoiler} And I agree with you, the villains are wasted in that ending, it would have been great to keep them on as recurring threats. Just because they are such a fresh and cool idea.

Took 3 attempts, but I got through the first Paternoster story. Fun and entertaining.
Finally got around to listening to the Ravenous 4 extras. I just love the enthusiasm of the cast and how much fun they are having with each other.

Well, tried a new podcast Drama called "Steal the Stars" about a security team who have to guard a crashed UFO. But the private company who own the site have plans to exploit the ufo's and occupant technology. At risk are the security teams jobs, but the teams job contracts prohibit other things as well. Any breach carries penalties such as incarceration. How do they protect their jobs and personal lives? I'm about half way through and it's quite intriguing storytelling. Word of warning though it contains scenes of a sexual nature.
Also listened to part 1 of Legacy of Time. It was ok. Nothing special. Felt very small and sound design made it difficult to make out what the ghosts were saying. A bit disappointing really.
