Finished Torchwood: Miracle Day. A really mixed bag. Some good ideas and characters ( Immortal Sins was very good in its own right) but ultimately the story really dragged on. {Spoiler} Esther’s end was really a bit undignified, I don’t understand why she was seemingly unable to speak-Rex has a fatal wound to the chest all series and that apparently left the rest of his body functions intact aside from the pain. It would have been a bit more effective to have her willingly ask Rex to let her go, than have Gwen just yell at Rex to sacrifice her. Torchwood has always handled its death scenes really well before, so not sure what went wrong here. Bizarrely the villains also emerge from the series completely under-developed, despite having 10 episodes dedicated to their plot. We only meet the figureheads of the organisation in the finale really, and they’re basically generic polite villains who want to take over the world for a whole line or two’s worth of reasons. Kitty suddenly gets onboard with their entire ideology...despite only properly joining about an episode ago.
Ultimately Miracle Day ends up as Torchwood’s TV Movie. It tried to reinvent the series and threw a lot of new ideas and styles into the mix, and now it’s just this oddity that can’t even be explored by expanded universe material due to rights issues.

Today it will be episode 2 of The Dæmons. And possibly an episode or two of Troughton... because he's Troughton.

Monday - The Ice Warriors Yesterday - The Enemy Of The World Today - The Web Of Fear (I've just started part 2) The first two I really adore and, whilst it's been a while I saw 'Web', I do remember enjoying it

I am currently watching The Planet of the spiders 🕷 The spider puppets are a bit silly but the voice work for the for the Queen of the eight legs is rather chilling 😱 I think the development of Tommy is oddly compelling for a side character 😊 Also I love the ridiculousness of the multi-vehicle chase scene Jon Pertwee was gifted😄

Time & the Rani. My god this is embarrassing. Reconfirms how much I hate this era of Who & the annoying variety act McCoy.

After my recent daily walks I've been working my way through the Season 18 blu-ray set. I was up to State of Decay today. I'm really enjoying watching this season again. It's totally different to anything that came before it and I absolutely love it! (Don't know why it didn't click with me as a kid) After that, on the recommendation of number13, I decided to try out the 5.1 mix on one of the previous blu-ray releases, so I put on Genesis of the Daleks. I'm not sure what it was, but there was something about the slightly different sound that made me feel like a kid watching it all over again. Maybe the sound better represents the speakers on the TV we had when I was a kid compared to the ones in my current TV, or maybe I had just become so accustomed to Genesis that the change reinvigorated my interest in it. Either way, thanks for the recommendation number13, it took 15 years off me watching it again After that experience, I've put on the Earthshock blu-ray for the same experience, and I'm loving it!

You're most welcome, I think these blu-rays+sound mixes are magic. I'm aiming for 46 years off my total when I watch S10 in July with the revamped 'Planet of the Daleks'
S18 is so different and though I was in my late teens when I first saw them, I got much more from the season on later viewings. As I said elsewhere, I didn't like 'The Leisure Hive' at all back in 1980 and didn't watch all of it then or later - so I recently saw it as my last ever 'new' Tom TV story and this time round I loved it. Well worth waiting 39 years for!

My brother (who'd just finished his last exam for the semester) came over and my sister and I made a bit of a party out of the viewing. We had a really fun night

Time & the Rani. My god this is embarrassing. Reconfirms how much I hate this era of Who & the annoying variety act McCoy. Hello again. Dreadful pantomime. The only bright point Kate O' Mara taking off Bonnie Langford's Mel! E saw it originally in b/w and only saw episodes 1 and 2. I saw the whole thing in January on Twitch in colour. What a mess. If you want a good laugh read Sue and Neil's review on The Wife in Space. wifeinspace.com/2013/02/time-and-the-rani/
