I would have, but I had to write an essay and study for two tests. I probably shouldn't have watched any movies, but 10/21/15 only comes once.

Turbo Kid
The Canadian 'Mad Max'/80s homage ft. Michael Ironside, an engaging pair of The Kid and Apple (Munro Chambers and Laurence LeBouef), a load of gore and a great synth soundtrack. Apocalypses are always fun. Blu-Ray was released this month and I got it for £6 in CEX, go me.
A.I.: Artificial Intelligence
An odd composite of Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg. It is not the disaster I expected it to be, but neither does it reach the masterpiece status of most of Kubrick's works. There are shades of the family themes of ET, the sci-fi themes of Close Encounters; shades of the creepy, atypical child (The Shining) and shades of existentialism, mortality and human evolution (2001: A Space Odyssey). There are some great, engaging themes within here, but ultimately they are contained within the first and final acts. The storyline of a runaway robot boy who falls into a dystopian secret society (or just a junkyard) of half-dead robot and meets a robot prostitute played by Jude Law is what is meant to connect the film together, but alongside dated CGI, horrific costume choices and an overly laid on Pinocchio metaphor, it fails to carry itself as strongly as it could have. Perhaps if the film had not gone through development hell and Kubrick placed himself in the director's chair, the overall image would have been a better one.
But there are some strong themes in here and strong performances, and an ending scene that is so emotional and so meaningful that there is much to find here, even if one tunes out from the robot arena scenes until the film reaches 'Dr Know' and the boy's arrival in Manhattan.

I have gone Movie-Mad recently.Went to see EVEREST. about the worst everest disaster up until that time(1996).Concerning 2 expeditions, and some of the worlds most experienced and best mountaineers.Naoko Mori(torchwood)played the part of Japanese climber, Yasuko Namba who became the oldest woman to climb Everest up until that point.(49 years old) The 2nd film was LEGEND about the notorious London gangsters of the sixties,Reggie and Ronnie Kray.Brilliantly portrayed by the same actor Tom Hardy.A big Doctor Who connection here. Christopher Eccleston plays the part of Superintendent Leonard"Nipper"Read who finally brings the Krays to justice. The 3rd film(I am getting a little fed-up with "Pic n Mix")THE MARTIAN spoilt for me by watching the trailer previous to the film. Why do trailers have to show you the whole film? including all the key moments.(Very annoying)So when I watched it,i felt I had already seen it.Did not like the ending,i think the Greeks call it "Deus Ex Machina" Bond next!

My cousin just put a comedy (i use the term loosely) called King Frat, as i watched the movie i slowly became more & more like a zombie.
I know how the walkers feel now in Walking Dead because this movie is atrocious & yet my cousin was crying with laughter?

Spectre, my thoughts.
Liked. -Gunbarrel back in it's rightful place at the start with the proper maurice binder iris. -Daniel Craig, brutal, uncompromising with just a hint of vulnerability. -Action scenes that reminded me that this was a Bond film not Jason Bourne. -Christopher Waltz was brilliant as ......... i hope he reprises the part again? - Bond Vs Henchman Mr Hynx, a brutal no holds barred fight on the train which topped Russia With Love's Bond Vs Red Grant. -Opening sequence that delivered a spectacular opening. -The excellent music score by Thomas Newman.
Dislikes. - Didn't think Madeline Swann was given enough to do & wasn't in the same league as Eva Greens Vesper Lynd. - Bit slow in places. - I'd have ended the film slightly differently although i see why they went with that ending.
Overall a cracking return to Bond form, this feels more Bondian than any other of Craigs Bonds & my favourite of his 4 Bond films.
Timelord Rating. 8/10.

Buried (2010) - 3.5/5
Ryan Reynolds does a good job as a civilian held captive in 2006 Iraq. But given the constrained working conditions, here is a case of a film where I'd rather star as the ancillary characters (or, voice actors) than the protagonist.
There's a lot to like, with Ryan's character, Paul, almost acting as the voice of the director, to tell us that all victims are victims and still people, rather than just a statistic. His phone conversations raise interesting points on Bush's policy of "we don't negotiate with terrorists" and the idea that Americans and Israeli; Christians and Muslims are still one people, the human race. The blanket statement that equates all Muslims to terrorists is a false one; these are simply desperate people in desperate times doing what they need to survive.
Unfortunately, the strengths of the film are weighed against increasing implausibilities as the film progresses, as if only included to add some suspense to be able to denote a third act, or to give a motive for the film to conclude in the way it does, complete with fake-outs. There are questionable editing choices made to raise tension, but only serve to reduce the film's relatively strong visual style to nothingness.
Suicide Room (2011) - 4/5
Last week, 'Turbo Kid' was one of my most enjoyable film experiences recently. This week, we get one of my most depressing.
It's a Shakespearean tragedy, full of dramatic irony (and masks) but told for the online age. The internet creates community, but it also creates isolation. It finds love, but it also finds attacks. It creates life and it creates death.
I've seen plenty of 'coming of age' films over the years (or, as my Year 11 English teacher would like me to call it, Bildungsroman), but this film is unique in the approach it takes. It's a film about depression and suicide, but it forgoes the melodrama to present it as it is.
It's a topic that needs to be covered more in cinema, but rarely do we see it from such a personal point of view.
And it's something I can relate to my own experiences. I know the experience of having parents who are never able to find the right approach, wanting them pushed away, wanting that independence. I know the experience of people taking the wrong approach to my sexuality, whether too invasive or too dismissive. I know the experience of being the loner kid. I know the experience of people I go through phases of depression. I've known people who have committed suicide, or at least contemplated it. There's something odd about having an 18 year old protagonist coming to terms with this culture when my own experience with it dates back years longer. I have come out of my most serious experiences with depression and survived. The MCR kids and emo kids are all in the past - and feel far more 2011 than 2015. And in a culture where people as young as 12 or 13 become suicide headlines, 18 feels somewhat too old, and I'm not just saying that as a university student who should be out of the age of watching films about high school.
I can't relate to the most serious aspects of the film, or the escapism into gamer culture. I don't want to relate to it either - but it's a good depiction of what the modern world is for many people. It's genuinely terrifying at points; at points it makes me want to cry. But there's no emotional manipulation - it's genuine. Or at least feels genuine.
