It's not preorder charge. It's an extra charge for shipping any Item Internationally to cover increased costs

Almost $13.00 for shipping is getting awfully steep.

All international parcels are shipped via DHL's Global Mail Packet service. ALL international parcels will be shipped by DHL? Smaller orders in the past have always been reliably delivered via Royal Mail and then passed onto Canada Post. In my neck of the woods, DHL is a CHEAP and an AWFUL option of a courier. They are barbarians in not carefully handling your parcels and if you manage with difficulty to get a hold of them by phone, they will often tell you to pick up your package at the WRONG depot - they are INFURIATING! This means, I (along with other international CD buyers) will pay the MOST and now will receive the WORST service! EVERY single order could be an adventure to track down!

I think Amazon ships this way for their international products. I never had a problem with this service. Unless I am thinking of something different.

Maybe it's time BF looks at more than one option for shipping and offers us a more expensive/less expensive option.

The only company I deal with who consistently uses DHL is Big Finish. I don't have a feeling about DHL one way or the other, but I do feel that the already not so cheap shipping charges are getting steeper.

I've never had a problem with Amazon UK's shipping service either. They actually use superior packaging materials than Amazon.ca does. And, fortunately my packages have always been sent via Royal Mail - right to my doorstep, even when I'm not home (instead of driving all over town trying to locate a missed DHL delivery).

I purchase a lot of media from Europe, especially the UK and BF shipping costs were already some of the highest ones out there. Steep is the word I keep coming back to. I don't want to buy less BF but at almost $13.00 for shipping on a standard BF boxset? Less is what I will end up buying.

Yeah, I've also found the Big Finish had the highest shipping cost of any media I've bought from Europe and other places outside the North American continent and Hawaii.

Maybe it is time to take another look at Alien Entertainment for my BF subs.

They also tend to apply brokerage charges at random that no other shipper charges - Canada Post UPS, Fed Ex etc. I wonder whether BF would make a switch in shippers if a larger enough contingent of international customers complained. Likely no, but it could be worth trying.

As noted shipping from BF is already expensive, and honestly service from DHL isn't the greatest, give us the consumers a little choice. I'd gladly pay less in shipping and wait longer to receive my discs if it means I can purchase more BF product. I would think BF would want that as well.

If you think BF's shipping is bad, look at the cost of ordering the Lethbridge-Steawar books direct from Candy Jar as opposed to buying from Book Depository. Once you add the shipping in it is nearly three times what you pay if you order from Book Depository. Though, in all fairness Candy Jar has stated that their status as a small company hurts their ability to get better rates.

$13.00 USD for shipping on a standard BF boxset? £9.50 (more than Amazon.co.uk and Book Depository) = $16.35 CAD WE (misery loves company) figuratively speaking should go out for lunch sometime, because my DISPLEASURE with BigFinish.com's compounding ham-fisted management decisions over the years is exponentially becoming difficult to overlook.

They also tend to apply brokerage charges at random that no other shipper charges - Canada Post UPS, Fed Ex etc. That brings up another sore point. Big Finish needs to be more ACCURATE in their postal declarations, because we the customer are paying for those additional customs and taxes! Big Finish routinely accesses every CD a £7 declaration. My Benny Unbound 5CD set was declared at £35, when in reality I paid £20 for it! This probably is against the law and is unmistakably unfair to us customers.

I'm glad that you didn't group Big Finish as being a "mom and pop" company, because that convenient fallback excuse of Big Finish's has sailed past a long time ago. Big Finish is now BIG Money!

If I were to rank BF, it would be as a growing company. Mom and Pop would be doing it a dis-service. As as a customer who is 95% download this doesn't impact me, though I suspect it is only a matter of time before downloads are on the recieving end of a price increase.

Big Finish isn't mom & pop but they are still a niche company. They aren't Amazon. At the very least when I am buying from Big Finish I know I'm directly supporting Big Finish 100%.
When I am buying from someone else I don't know what % goes back to Big Finish.

I got a reply back from Ian and it was basically this is the situation they have as far as international shipping is concerned, it isn't as bad as it could be for us and to lessen the per item charge we should plan better and group as many purchases together as possible.
