Half an hour away from me, Savannah, GA is the only city that wasn't burned in the Civil War. I love Savannah. It's a beautiful city.

I live in Philadelphia I feel most tourists come here for the Rocky Steps but we also maybe signed the Declaration of Independence here. Maybe?

I live 30 min from NYC. Do I need to describe it?
My town of Springfield, NJ was the site of The Battle Of Springfield during the Revolutionary War. The British were trying to open a route to Washington's headquarters in Morristown. The battle was fought to a standstill and the British retreated, burning the town down on their way out. It was the last attempted intrusion of the British into New Jersey.
A little more recent history, out town entered the "Which Springfield is most like ours?" contest when the Simpson's Movie came out. We didn't win but got a lot of nice perks as a town out of it. It was fun.

I was being sarcastic because you would be surprised how many people I've talked to know about Rocky but not the fact that the US was founded in Philadelphia.

I was actually wondering about your post, also. I've visited the historic parts of Philly, have no interest in the Rocky steps, though I did see and enjoy the movie.

The steps actually are quite nice but not because of Rocky they are part of the Philadelphia Museum of Art which is a really beautiful art museum. Definitely worth a visit if anyone comes this way.

I went to Philadelphia on a college trip. We had 1 hr free at the end so I went to the art museum to the arms and armor collection. I didn't know about the steps until I came out to leave and suddenly realized where I was!

I live in Halifax, West Yorkshire. In olden days (before some of your countries were born) it had a reputation for having the strictest judges around giving rise to the saying "God save me from Hull, hell and Halifax" The local council leisure services paid to restore the old gibbet. Yes, the leisure services. Because nothings fun more than seeing where they used to behead people!

I'm in Greeneville. Andrew Johnson is buried here. His home and tailor shop are here.
The 17th president, his gravesite is amazing.

The main thing that comes to mind about my home town is that it is where J.M. Barrie wrote 'Peter Pan'...

Yes, I think I've been there. But not because of Rocky. I have family and friends in Philly, so I've been there often. I didn't realize you guys were quite so local to me. I live in western Jersey these days and commute to the Lehigh Valley area for work. We moved up here from the Philadelphia area about ten years ago. Specifically, we lived in Gladwyne, which is a very wealthy suburb of Philadelphia. We never could have afforded to live there on our own, but at the time my wife was the director of a nature center and we lived on site. We each come from working class families and Gladwyne is one of the wealthiest zip codes in America. (I’ve seen ranks from 3rd to 7th wealthiest). Allen Iverson owned a house a mile away from us and M Night Shyamalan sent his kids to my wife’s summer camp. It was a bit of a culture shock. I remember one time I was at the supermarket. A woman had her shopping cart in front of the chicken breasts. So I said “Excuse me” and reached over and picked one off the shelf. She exploded. “Excuse me,” she said in a tone of withering contempt. “That one was mine.” I was still thinking “Well, why wasn’t it in your cart?” when she added “Oh never mind. It was just for the dog anyway.” Then, later that week, I stopped at our mailbox to grab the mail. An extremely fancy Jaguar pulled up next to me and stopped. It was being driven by a chauffeur in full uniform, with cap and gloves. (I never understood that part. If you’re going to own a car like that, don’t you want to drive it yourself?) The rear door opened and the gentleman in the back snapped his fingers to get my attention. You know that tone of voice Buttercup used in the very beginning of The Princess Bride when she would say “Farmboy, fetch me that jug”? That’s how he talked to me. He asked me if I was associated with the nature center and I never knew how to answer that, because I lived there, but I didn’t have any kind of official relationship with the place. He wanted me to pass on some kind of message and I said I would. The whole thing seemed surreal. It seemed like an over the top caricature of that kind of person. In many ways it was a nice place to live, and not all of the people were like that. But we were never comfortable living in that world. We would go to fundraisers with food on literal silver platters. It never felt real.

But I'm currently in sunny south Florida. Who knows? I may move back one day.

You know, even if I'm on this board for a thousand years, I will never stop thinking that Ela and Elkawho are the same person We didn't quite make it out to New Brunswick, but we were over in Somerville last week.

Well, maybe they'd cooperate if you change your name to Joseph.
