It'd be a bit odd to have a Women's March against a female president. If anything, there may have eventually been a series of anti-war solidarity protests and as long as the demonstrations remained peaceful (duh) I reckon there'd be similar reactions. True, but that doesn't quite cover the reaction in Europe, Asia, Oceania and even other parts of America like Canada and Mexico. It shows that this isn't just about the United States, it's about a greater global concern. The protesters here in Australia are fighting One Nation, those in Germany wish never to see another nightmare like the one that was born in their country ever again, those in India are continuing their protest against people turning a blind eye to getting raped in the street... Each culture has their own grim heart from which this springs, but the spark has been the inauguration of the latest president. It was you, America. This kind of movement has never happened in this way before, there has never been a worldwide protest unified through digital media across nations, languages, and cultures. We learn about each other as we learn about ourselves and from the perspective of these protesters, we as a species will need to do so much better than we have actually done. The United States of America has done what was thought to be impossible -- it has made a global culture of solidarity. We are responsible for the actions of our governments and our governments will be swayed by the actions of our people. It may be brief and for all I know it may soon be forgotten, but for the first time in history, our tiny island Earth has moved in unison from Africa to Antarctica. One day, we may actually be able to exist not as fractured tribes, but as a cohesive whole strengthened by a unity without uniformity. It's a truly exciting prospect. If I'm honest the problem is that there isn't much sexism in the UK or the US, so they're just victimising themselves, in my opinion. What they should be protesting is the terrible evils that people commit towards women in Saudi Arabia and certain other eastern countries. No? Not much sexism in the UK or US? Check out these reactions to the Women's March. And who told you they aren't protesting other evils in the world?

I never watched Piers Morgan much when he was on CNN, but I didn't realize he was that big a schmuck.

It isn't as extreme or as evil as in places like Saudi Arabia, but it still exists and is still a major problem. No it doesn't. I've never seen anyone in my life be sexist to people. I'm from the UK bare in mind, but there are still a lot of crazed feminists, who believe that there's some major inequality here. I don't even think there's racism over here that much. The most racist things I've heard are ironically from people who are immigrants moaning about immigrants from other countries.

And I've seen a lot, for better or worse. They were all honestly sarcasm and are actually kind of funny. If anyone took some of them jokes seriously, I think the education system should probably start teaching people sarcasm as a full subject at school.

They are sarcasm that are based on tropes that are offensive to women and therefore sexist. And not they are very funny, either. Perhaps you are in a position of privilege that prevents you from recognizing these remarks as sexism, but they are very offensive.

Actually, tell you what, (I'm not being sarcastic here) can you actually go through one and tell me what is sexist about it because at the present time I don't see it.

Sorry but the fact that the term "alternate facts" has been coined by a government deeply concerns me.
Truth is I fear fast becoming solely in the Eye of the Beholder.

Regards mark687 I'm a trifle confused. Might you explain, perhaps? Sorry Trump said that the inauguration had the biggest ever crowd at over a million people, no one can know that for sure, when White House press relations was asked if the figure was a lie they responded that it was an "alternate Fact"
Todays official press conference went further and said it was the biggest ever crowed Full stop, again this can't be confirmed.
In summary though before this weekend most people would call an "alternate Fact" a lie.

If we're honest, I don't think anyone really does know. It could be that everyone was compacted together or something. Perhaps the media were faking, unlikely though that is. We just don't know.

Outside of the US who gives a stuff about it.....I am sure they don't have wall to wall coverage of the state opening of Parliament each year. Sure I am interested in reporting on the policies & stuff......but give it a break please

If you are not interested in it, muckypup, you are free to not read this thread. People were interested in discussing it, so a thread was created for that purpose. For the record, it seems a lot of people outside the US do care on it, based on reactions and demonstrations around the world. Just as a lot of people outside the UK and Europe care about Brexit. My personal intake of news media includes world news, not only local news.

The experts on crowd analysis have said that Trump's crowd was smaller, but that's not really the important thing. We've had 44 white presidents before, and Trump is not popular in the DC area. There isn't really any shame in not having a big innaguration crowd. What is important is that Trump is making such a big deal about it, and is just flat out lying (or being alternatively truthful) and attacking the media for reporting honestly.

The first one implies that a woman's place is in the kitchen. The Jim Hoft one reduces woman to their appearances, and basically suggests their opinions don't matter because they are "ugly." Some of them are more ignorant than offensive, but they are all pretty bad.

All this talk of "alternative facts" reminds me of the Babylon 5 episode "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars", in which the state espoused "good facts" over actual truth.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.
