That's hilarious. Is it April 1st? I wish it was. What Papa's Fish and Chips have done is ridiculous.

If McDonald wants to provide parking for its customers it should provide it. And by the way, having spent a lot of time in Scarborough over the years and currently living in a different sea side town, I can testify that car parking spaces are at an extreme premium, if the owners did not enforce keeping the car park for its customers, it would find that it was always full of none customers, ALWAYS. So what exactly have the owners of the car park done that is so morally reprehensible?

Drive thru and take it home or don't go to that McDonald's. Pretty simple.

The car park used to be shared between the original owners of Papa's building Hungry Horse and McDonald's but the new owners have decided to use it as a money-making opportunity to fine people who post there for McDonald's £100. This has caused a massive uproar in Scarborough with some even threatening a mass protest where they park their cars in the car park and refuse to move. Personally I applaud them for it because McDonald's share that same space where the car park is, so who gives them the right to stop their customers parking there?

If mc Donaldson owned the car park...
Would they demand the same?

If mc Donaldson owned the car park... Would they demand the same? Well, the manager of Seamer McDonald's is apparently very amenable with people so I doubt they would enforce such fines, or they would at least allow those going to Papa's to use the parking. If not, McDonald's was there first though so have a greater right to do it. McDonald's is also more family-orientated than a chippy so Papa's should know better.

As usual with viral nonsense, a little truth is never as interesting as the mob rule mentality of overreaction and going off half cocked:
If you get a Penalty Charge Notice that's a fine as it's from police or the council. This takeaway is not fining people, they're issuing Parking Charge Notices, which aren't the same thing. They don't have any criminality attached and are merely your "invoice" for breaking the unspoken agreement of contract , the terms of the landowner for using their land. The takeaway are perfectly entitled to issue them as invoices for anyone breaking the contract but you won't be arrested for not paying - they can take you to court though, but not as a criminal prosecution. But that's not a terribly exciting story for people who see a short video on Facebook and think they know the script.

I love fish and chips so I know who I support. Anyway, to your point about mcdonalds having been there longer that's like saying that if two houses had a drive begween them that belonged to house 1, then you would allow house 2 to park on it if they've owned their house longer. Length of time in the area is irrelevant, ownership is everything. McDonald's should have bought the carpark themselves.

There are some BF titles I want to listen to, so give me your log in info so I can listen to your downloads. Hurry up, I'm entitled to them, because it's my opinion that you owe me something for being here. I am not going to pay you for your info, and I might change the login info when I get into your account, but don't you worry bout it. See how assanine that is! And your statement is still just as ridiculous as mine, or perhaps even more so. If Mcdonalds want a parking lot, let them buy one or build one, they can afford it. They sure aint entitled to someone else's, but some folks, sure do believe they are entitled to it. I'm speakin of you DB. You are just flat out wrong on your opinion posted here. Now give me your bank account info, I need some extra money, and we share the same earth so I'm entitled to it.

Here's my updated view: McDonald's should have bought the car park, but Papa's fish and chips should have refused to buy it in order to help satisfy customers of both Papa and McDonald's. Also: yes, you can have my Big Finish downloads. Not my account though. No, you can't have my bank details.

I think the fish and chips place maybe doing it a little bit wrong though.
I think I would video every car parking there from Mcdonalds, then go to them, and tell them they can start paying 5 grand a month rent, or sue them. Take the evidence to the courts and let the courts give them several million for their troubles.
Big bad Mcdonalds trying to run a little fish and chips place out of business, and the courts would eat it up, as would the media. Could mean the end of Mcdonalds in Scarborough, and that aint ever a bad thing. Unless you like Happy Meals.
Now that's just how it would be done here in America, the laws over there are, well, to be nice, different than ours.

Right, did some digging on this none story. Turns out that Papa's is an up and coming chain of chip shop come restaurant, and not some mom and pop outfit, although in the fast food business a minnow compared to McDonalds. The Chip shop restaurant only opened recently, with the hook of being the Worlds largest Fish and Chip shop the building having previously been a Hungry Harvester restaurant come pub. I also have to note that extensive searching on Google looking for evidence of this "viral" video shows nothing, no video, no reports, no comments on forums, so I'm not sure how viral this can be. Other that, I have been unable to verify any of the statements otherwise made about this story. So in my opinion, based on the flimsy information that I can access, this is a story about how one young and up and coming fast food company got one over on McDonald's, but ultimately really nothing for anyone to get excited about.

There's a shopping mall near me that's only a few minutes walk from town centre. Parking is free as long as you're shopping at that centre but you're not allowed to park there and walk into town. Same sitiation as the one you've described, a car park owner choosing what their car park can be used for.
