Well, the only release I don't own from this week's selection is The Isos Network, so I guess I'll pick that up.

Perfect for nostalgics, but it's not for people looking for anything truly creative. It's Troughton by numbers, and just another disappointing Cyberman story from that year for me.

I think saying it's perfect for nostalgics is dismissive and a bit patronising as though some of us will accept anything with a few references and some continuity. Not so - this story is simple but it's just done really, really well. It's a bit like the people who call every TV ep that doesn't have big, dramatic events and twists "filler". when sometimes a good adventure is it's own reward. By all means dislike it, but don't look down on people just for not "looking for anything truly creative" in every release.

I have the same problem with Secret History as I had with tonight's TV EP, everything happened exactly as I predicated, just from Cover Art and the Companions involved and for a milestone number its an average tale!
I don't alter expectations because of spine numbers A good story is all I ask. Personally, I thought the 100th Main Range release would be a 'special' release because of the 100 milestone. (Gary Russell made a big effort for the 50th release after all!) But as the 100th Main Range title was nothing special, I didn't expect much from the 200th release milestone. We all want good stories, but there's nothing wrong with pushing the boat out a wee bit for events like those. Maybe they'll do something special when the Main Range reaches it's 500th release?! Of the three stories that made up that trilogy, I do agree that The Secret History was the best of them though...

Yeah, but Zagreus was promoted as being special for the 40th anniversary more than the spine number. They've never really done anything to celebrate spine milestones and, frankly, GOOD. I see Criterion bluray collectors obsessing over them enough. It's just an arbitrary cataloguing tool.

My opinion on the story is affected by the writer and the mindset they wrote it with. After they'd written an absolute clunker of a season finale I had little expectation. I'm just not that receptive to the Nick Briggs brand of nostalgia. Others are, and they are free to enjoy or not enjoy as they choose to. What releases are we expecting to go on sale next week then? My money is on regeneration stories (The Last Adventure, Circular Time) or all of the discounts for previous weeks coming back.

I loved the way it is obviously meant to 'look' as if it had been made directly following 'The Invasion' (apart from the very large city 'sets' and creatures which might have over-stretched the budget ) All the details, carefully described, like the visual effect of a Cyber-weapon and even the display screen in their ship – there’s no doubt we are intended to imagine ‘The Invasion’ era of production, down to the last detail.

Circular Time would be good, I don't think I have that one... *quickly disappears off to check*... Oh, apparently I *do* have it. Perhaps I ought to listen to it forthwith as I can't remember it. Cheers Tony

Very tempted to get the PHP/Last Adventure sets... A very good move - PHP1 is my favourite BF of all, the Last Adventure is a great four-story arc. Essentials in my opinion.

I've got an expensive day out looming on Monday (Cider run/early Xmas/birthday present shopping in Somerset) so I'll have to control myself, wanted both sets for ages though...
