William Hartnell is my favourite Doctor (along with MS) however I don't get the point of this really. It seems unnecessary. Especially the re-cast companions. I'm more than happy for Bradley to portray Hartnell because I think he's quite good but on audio it seems pointless. This one just looks like a money making racket to me I'm afraid.

Well...I'll have to see what Bradley's like in Christmas. I guess this is where the recasting has always been heading. Personally I don't feel there's a need for this, Companion Chronicle impressions were perfectly serviceable for me, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Interesting - is this the first audio with a completely recast cast? If so, it could be setting a precedent for the future.

!!!! That's a hell of a announcement to sneak in at the bottom of the article. Is this a final blow for the 'War Chief=The Master'/'Monk=The Master' theory?

Price increases by 10 (not 5) on release.

Goodness I have mixed feelings about this - very mixed feelings indeed. The synopses look great, the writers are the absolute BF 'A-team' and I'm sure they will be excellent stories BUT...
Recasting companions when the original (and iconic) actors are still very much with us seems FAR worse than 'unnecessary' to me. It's only a year since we enjoyed two excellent EAs with the original crew plus Jemma Powell.

Volume 2 also announced, and 6 not 12 months later. Big Finish seems all in on this. Does this mean the 3rd Doctor Adventures will also become twice-yearly?

Think they'll pull a River Song and release this on Christmas day?
David Bradley might be enough of a pull to get new listeners, which is never a bad thing. They we're good in Time and Space and I've heard good things about Gemma in the Early Adventures.
William Hartnell has not be with us for a long time, so I am okay with this.
Also, this may open up the opportunity for the 2nd Doctor to meet the Master, which would be fun.

But they are the actors from An Adventure in Space and Time, so it's different than Big Finish themselves recasting everyone. It also means that the actors already had the original cast's blessing.

As one who hasn't been quiet about disliking recasts...
I really wish people would stop with this crap. Yes Big Finish is a company that wants to turn a profit, but nonsense like this implies that they're a bunch of greasy, cigar-smoking villains sitting around a table scheming how to fleece victims of their money.
They are not.
The people making these adventures are fans, every bit and more than we are. These are people who spent their childhoods playing DW in the playground, who spent their adolescence dreaming up DW stories they'd love to see, who spent the 'wilderness years' writing books for the DW 'expanded universe'--a market so niche it's microscopic. And now as adults they've had the great fortune to find themselves writing and producing officially licensed products, giving us wonderful new stories, fulfilling lifelong dreams of their own and keeping the dreams of other fans alive.
We don't have to love every story--of course not. Tastes will vary, and there's always something that someone will have no interest in. But these people deserve better than to be accused of base greed simply for living out their creative hopes and dreams.

I'm somewhat underwhelmed that this is today’s big announcement, was hoping that Big Finish’s news would be a new non-Doctor Who related range.
Are Big Finish producing too much DW?

Seems strange to recast Susan and Ian. My honest opinion is that although she played Barbara in Adventures in Time and Space, Jemma Powell sounds nothing whatsoever like Jacqueline Hill. I'm delighted David Bradley is playing the First Doctor. In truth, his performance is very different to that of Hartnell's, but he is an 'official' Doctor actor. So for me, the good outweighs the not-so-good. But a First Doctor story with another version of the Master? Not so sure - I think all-new villains might have been preferrable to me.
More First Doctor is always good, but where does this leave The Early Adventures, I wonder? And where does Carol Ann Ford fit into all this?
Anway, I'm glad the announcement has been made at last!
Reece Shearsmith in The Second Doctor Adventures, anyone?

How does one keep up with everything? I personally love Doctor Who because each incarnation is different, and yet still The Doctor, so I struggle to pick and choose. (Although I guess I'd end up going with Colin and Paul because their eras are ongoing, with companion changes keeping their Big Finish eras fresh. Also, as much as I like Nyssa and Ace, it's too much when they are in almost every story with their respective Doctor. )
