Eh.
I really liked the Early Adventures so this doesn't thrill me, but I guess this was a little inevitable.
Also inevitable: The Dark Path bring thrown out the window in favor of a first Master story. I'm sure I'll make up some Time War excuse or something later on but right now it just kind of makes me sad. You'd think I'd be used to it by now.

So what does this mean for Carol Ann Ford? It seems as if they are still using Peter Purves and Maureen O'Brien in the Early Adventures range, but does this now mean we will no longer get the real Susan, even though she's very much alive and, I believe, willing to work with BF?
Another one here who's not sure how I feel about this. I'm not completely against it, but not quite on board either. Hmmm.

I'm not quite sure what this is, is it an alternative take on the characters or is it like the third doctor adventures with the first doctor??

People like me who've never seen the First Doctor on TV wouldn't actually mind giving this a chance because we have no benchmark to compare to. I'll wait and watch and then decide

!!!! That's a hell of a announcement to sneak in at the bottom of the article. Is this a final blow for the 'War Chief=The Master'/'Monk=The Master' theory? Certainly seems a swing in that direction, although The Black Hole hasn't dulled followers of Season 6B, so who can say? The Doctor meeting a fellow Time Lord so early in his renegade existence will be a tricky balancing act. The feeling I'm getting is a bit like watching someone set up shelves on a swivel desk chair. It'll be an interesting development to say the very least. Hopefully, it doesn't scupper The Dark Path.In a broader sense, I have absolutely no clue what to think of this. I'm always happy to see First Doctor stories whatever their guise, but this will likely take some getting used to. Curious that it's been put under the New Series directory on the website, but I suppose that makes sense with Twice Upon a Time. I wonder if Big Finish will be alternating between the recast crew and the original actors?

Would I be happier if Big Finish had not hired David Bradley to play the First Doctor for them? No. Bradley is an excellent actor and, having thought about it, I think we're in for some good stuff. Could have done without another Master though! Anway, I'll be preordering this.

Oh I forgot this meant Dark Path would probably be overridden, but having him in it makes them a definite buy instead of just a probable.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

It's a bit like recasting Sean Connery's James Bond to me, or Basil Rathbone's Sherlock Holmes. Not to my taste but I hope others find some enjoyment in it.

I'll wait and watch and then decide And I think that puts it very well. The website temporarily stalling is what I'd call a 'New Series' reaction - it happens when a Tenth Doctor set or similar is announced. Today's short 'freeze' should be a reminder to us classic series fans that there's a legion of primarily new series fans out there who only dimly know who Ian, Barbara and Susan are, and probably have never heard of the actors who play/played them. And maybe some are even hazy about who William Hartnell was. The Christmas episode will no doubt introduce many new viewers to the classic series at its (recast) roots and these sets will then hope to draw them into BF and exploring the classic Doctors, a good commercial result for BF - and more new classic-era fans are always very welcome. (None of which means I have to like the idea of the Total Recast because instinctively I really don't.)

Why do this? Were getting the Early Adventures that feature most of the original actors playing there roles so why do a complete recast of Ian & Susan when those actor's still perform there roles in Big Finish audios?
This sounds a bit of a cash cow to me & one box set to many & will actually be one Doctor Who range i shall not be purchasing.

Yeah, my knee jerk reaction is a bit "blegh" because it's not William Russell or Carole Ann Ford doing Ian and Susan (I find it hard listening to the 3DAs for the same reason), but best of luck to the range all the same. I hope it does well.
