Really? I find it to be one of the weaker ones from recent memory.

Really? I find it to be one of the weaker ones from recent memory. Personally it’s my favourite out of all the Eighth Doctor Boxset covers. They only one that comes close for me is Dark Eyes 1.

Nice cover. Kandyman looks like stuff of nightmares.

The boxset covers never really stood out to me, but the individual story covers in the Dark Eyes sets are amongst the best Big Finish have ever had in my opinion.

ok so after reading the description and now hearing the trailer, its going to be more of the 4 random times and places and maybe half the stories really have anything to do with the premise. losing ruth bradley derailed dark
eyes in a big way. the doom coalition had more in common with dark eyes 3 and 4 than the first 2 which were more focused. most of stories paid lip service to the storyline more than served it. and i feel that ravonous will be
the same. id rather have 2 box sets that really focus on the plotline than 4 who sort of.

Could you please fix the punctuation here? I'm afraid I can't tell which box sets you're comparing.

I've seen worse on the Unfiltered section of NotAlwaysRight (usually on "look how fun and wacky I am!" stories). But yeah, capital letters do exist.

Dark Eyes 1 was written as a self-contained single box set storyline (this was when Big Finish were still experimenting with box sets in Doctor Who ranges), so when it proved popular enough to commission a second set, what was left hanging and new elements had to be brought together and resolved in twelve episodes. Nick's workload was getting very busy, so Matt Fitton and John Dorney took over the plotting for the arc. Then Ruth Bradley wasn't available for four days of recording for Dark Eyes 3, so Molly's role was reduced accordingly. Clearly her unavailability carried over into Dark Eyes 4, where Ruth doesn't appear at all. Meanwhile Doom Coalition was planned out as a 16 episode epic and the TARDIS team was largely intact, only Helen missing out an episode (the first one, The Eleven since she was introduced in the second story The Red Lady). Knowing the endgame of Doom Coalition, the writers were able to chart the exploration and development of the characters more naturally.

I feel like Doom Coalition was intended as a sort of Daleks’ Master Plan style 16 Part epic, whereas Ravenous is meant to have more in common with a New Who Series. Mostly standalone stories but with a story arc that’s touched on occasionally. Doom Coalition was sort of a quest story, but I think this is just going to be a normal series of stories.

Actually the rough plotting was Nick, Matt and Alan Barnes as I recall.

I'm actually looking forward to a series of more stand alone stories. I miss those EDA type of stories. We got a few of them in Doom Coalition (The Red Lady felt like that, as did Absent Friends) and I really appreciated it.
Anyway, pre-ordered last night.

I've said it before but my favourite episode of Dark Eyes was very easily A Life in the Day. The Eighth Doctor team does some cracking small-scale standalone episodes.

I must be one of the only people who doesn't like the 15 minute previews in the podcast. First I feel like I'm being spoiled, then when the thing actually comes out, I dislike spending the first quarter of an episode feeling like 'yeah yeah I've done this already.' I understand and support the rationale behind it, promoting a new product and whatnot. It just doesn't work for me.
Hopefully this means Ravenous is coming sooner in the month than later though. I've been burning through a Doom Coalition re-listen the last few days and just cannot wait!

Honestly, it just makes everything more exciting for me. So near and so far You can always hold out onto release, but I get wanting to talk to people as well And that works for you, which is why you should listen to it but if it bugs someone like Digi, I don’t get why one would listen to it. I stop listening to the podcast when it comes time for the preview.
