Another Eleventh Doctor reunion with Jo just makes my day even better! I completely forgot to mention that. Yeah, that’s great news and read by the brilliant Katy Manning too. I said this in The Legacy of Time thread, but BF have done great things with Jo Jones, so I’m excited for more.

Dudman's 12th Doctor starts off sounding like Capaldi but as he moves he forward the Capaldi tails off and he ends up sounding kind of Tennant like.

Oh...I haven’t been following the updates, but I see the impersonations are creeping their way into this range? That’s unfortunate, I guess I’ll be holding off on subscription preorders in the future then.

I was very impressed by his Eleventh Doctor Chronicles set and look forward to more of those. Just based on the trailer I will agree that his 12th Doctor isn’t so perfect, but I am looking forward to this release none the less.

It's tricky because he set such a high bar for himself. I was impressed by what I'd heard from the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor Chronicles, so even though his take on the Twelfth Doctor is reasonably decent, it's just going to sound weaker to my ears because of what he'd managed with the others. Especially because he's playing against himself (ahem) in the preview. Still, it sounds fun! I might give this one a shot.

It's also worth noting, of course, that the Short Trips don't tend to have great Doctor impressions generally. Like, we get the occasional Purves or Hines, but mostly it's Sophie Alfred doing her 7, or Louise Jameson attempting 4, etc. Which isn't to criticize them. Pitch-perfect just isn't what this range wants or needs. But Dudman's spectacular 11 feels like a cherry on top, to me, while his 12 is about as accurate as Neve's was. He certainly gets Capaldi's tone and verbal tics.

Out of curiosity, do they ever get the original actors who have played the Doctor for Short Trips?

Out of curiosity, do they ever get the original actors who have played the Doctor for Short Trips? Yes. Peter and Colin have both read stories on Volumes / Series 1 - 4. In Colin's case he also wrote the one he read on Volume 1 (The Wings Of A Butterfly) Worth a listen!

Out of curiosity, do they ever get the original actors who have played the Doctor for Short Trips? Not sure about the old "Volume" releases, but in the individually released ones never. It's always companion and companion-adjacent (ie Yee Jee Tso, Camille Coduri, Neve McIntosh) actors doing the readings. Exceptions: - the one Sean Carlsen did - the one Geoffrey Beevers did - Nick doing the Paul Spragg releases - Rufus Hound has done a couple - Tim Treloar doing his "Doctor" in one I suppose in hindsight the Treloar one should have been a signal that they'd be letting impersonations creep into the range (but I'd hoped not).

Thanks you guys, do you think they will ever have Doctors’ actors do any more short trips? Ex: Any of the classic Doctors, or David Tennant (and if any other modern Doctors if they decide to do Big Finish)

Thanks you guys, do you think they will ever have Doctors’ actors do any more short trips? Ex: Any of the classic Doctors, or David Tennant (and if any other modern Doctors if they decide to do Big Finish) I would love that! My uninformed speculation is that it probably would cost a bit more money to get the Doctors in and they'd probably want to maximize it by having them record a few over a scheduled session (which is how I'm guessing they did the original volumes).
Plus I wonder if that would inadvertently detract from the appeal of titles narrated by others?

He certainly gets Capaldi's tone and verbal tics. The difference in this case is Dudman is hired for his impersonations of Doctors 10, 11 and now 12. Regeneration Impossible was written specifically for Dudman to perform a full cast Short Trip. The others have a charm where they’re doing whacky takes and impressions of their Doctors. There’s an affection there that I don’t think Dudman gets away with, so his impression will be under scrutiny because that’s exactly what he’s hired to do. It doesn’t seem like Dead Media or Regeneration Impossible are your standard readings.
