I really hope they don't do Mary Shelley because Big Finish has already done great stories with Mary Shelley...unless they have Julie Cox play her and have it be post-8th Doctor travels.

IF the report of the Shelley/Cybermen story is true, I think anyone expecting the show to acknowledge the Shelley trilogy with McGann will be disappointed. There's every chance the show would act as though it's the first meeting of the Doctor and Mary completely ignoring BF and best case scenario, it leaves it ambiguous. But I'd bet hard that the show wouldn't recognise the McGann stuff even slightly. I wouldn't expect it to anyway - the show caters for a much broader church and taking out events and characters that BF used, or the books did, would limit the story potential.
I'm more surprised it's another Cybermen in the 19th century story when we got The Next Doctor doing the same monsters in the same time period (albeit later 19th) only a decade ago. I'd like to see a story set in the far future with the Cyberfleet at their pomp again. Some Cyber-war kinda stuff. Even their last appearance in The Doctor Falls, while technically space-bound, was set in an English countryside for all intents.

Lovely, another of the Mirror's 'nameless' sources. Like the guy who told them about Autons at sea: why do I get the feeling someone is delibrately playing them by recycling stories from BF's catalogue? Next they'll say 'a source says the Doctor will battle against a Time Lord nursery rhyme' or 'a source says the Doctor fights alien muppets who sing'.
But okay, playing fair here: 1) as davy said, explicit acknowledgment ain't happening. I don't think it'll be a total rewrite, given how much more integral BF have become in the merch machine, but it'll be a vague 'oh yeah, we met a long time back' line and then adventure ho! 2) Maybe this in reference to the Trefegar House filming, so 19th century, perhaps indoor-bound, Cybermen are not impossible and 3) this is more personal, but I think it's still a bit soon to bring back the Cybermen, given how heavily Moffat used them and then the big blowout with Series 10. 3 years apart yes, but only a series between 10 and 12. Still, this'll be in line with the favouring of female-centric historicals from last time, and Chibs made the Daleks more bloodthirsty again, so maybe he can do something novel with them. Can't be any worse than Iron-Cyber-Man.
Also, Fry was was shown as being in the WW2 spy episode.

I got over excited I guess š I see your point about it being a bit soon after World Enough in Time, but like you said he did succeed in reinventing the Daleks š I am hoping that the Cypermen might get a cool steampunk design š

Not sure I buy this, considering the last two leaks have both sounded very similar to some Big Finish audios, and the fact that Chibnall wanted to avoid past enemies, S12 is going to have Judoon, Cybermen and Autons? Iāll believe it when I see it.

Iāll believe it when I see it. Well I think they specifically said it wasnāt Autons (but everything else about that plot was literally just Sargasso). And thereās also a rumour about Sea Devils (A Sea Devil 4DA has been recorded) And Florence Nightingale is supposed to be in an episode, as well as Noor Inayat Khan. I cant really see Series 12 consisting mainly of returning monster episodes and celebrity Historicals.

www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/doctor-who-push-eco-message-17272766I think on reflection that this 'news' article in the Mirror seems written to trigger traditional fans. Almost as if it exists to provoke a reaction. Careful not to take the 'bait' as you might choke on the plastic.... "Jodie Whittaker will wage war on plastic choking the worldās oceans. Writer Chris Chibnall covered racism, gender politics and British imperialism in the last series, leading some viewers to moan the sci-fi show, aimed at kids, had become ātoo PCā with itās messages. But it averaged 8.6million viewers, making it the most popular since David Tennantās third run as Doctor in 2008. One show insider revealed: āLast season, the theme was empowerment for women, mirroring what was happening elsewhere in the world" āThis time there will be an effort to get behind the message that what weāre doing is killing our planet." āKids are really involved in these environmental issues so itās a perfect fit for Doctor Who.ā It has demonstrated a social conscience on other matters, too. The Doctor overthrew the galactic slave trade in 1981ās Warriorsā Gate. The BBC has helped to campaign against single-use plastic since the issue was highlighted by Sir David Attenborough in his 2017 series, Blue Planet II. Jodie Whittakerās second series is due on BBC1 early next year, following her second festive special."

I'm going to get really annoyed if
a) DW on tv just remakes BF material again and again rather than invent something new b) doesn't feature the Autons so that all our 'Yaz and the Plastic Population' jokes don't pay off.

I think we now have some indication of where Chris stands on BF.

My mistake, I forgot they specifically said there werenāt Autons involved, but the fact that it was essentially the same plot as Sargasso is suspicious. I know Chibnall is clearly open to returning monsters for S12, but I canāt see him overwhelming the series with returning monsters, Iām only expecting a couple at most.

I wish I'd made a list, but I could swear that during my MR listen-throughs - I go in order from MR1 to whatever the present is when I do this - I repeatedly hear themes/etc that appeared later in New Who. Not 100% ripoffs, but I could swear the new series regularly borrowed concepts from BF.
