Given how quickly they've ramped up the publicity from 0 to 100, I think the New Year's Day start is looking likely.

Well if they're banking episodes 14 months in advance, I won't be expecting Series 13 until Autumn 2020. That way if it is sooner it'll be a nice bonus

That way if it is sooner it'll be a nice bonus Important not to get ahead of ourselves here: advanced plotting of shows is common in television. It doesn't mean they're going to be shot right away: this doesn't even mean scripts have been written and locked, just in the outline stage. Plus, if they're just shooting the 2020 Xmas special with the Black Dalek recently, there's no way they can get a full 10 ep show ready for Autumn 20. My money is likely Winter/Spring 21, especially if this move works for s12.

"Jodie Whittaker is good as the doctor, let down by the writing. 2nd series of new doctor and new showrunner always better." Gee, that's the most original statement I've ever read. The thing about a show with a history as long as Doctor Who is that you can always find an example to the contrary. Quite a lot of Doctors had a brilliant first series and an average second series (3, 4, 11) and I'm frankly really tired of the "let down by the writing" cliche. The writing was fine, as consistent per episode as any other modern series. Series 11 had more "very good" episodes than most series did and fewer duds. All it lacked - and YMMV here, I admit - was a standout episode on the level of Blink or Midnight or Vincent. I thought it superior to series' 6 and 7, though. Oops I completely forgot to give you an answer, sorry ! I quite agree. Although series 11 is far from being my favorite - from NuWho at least, series 4 and 10 are the best in my opinion because Moffat and RTD really gave it their all for their last hurrah - I don't think it's bad at all. I really enjoyed watching and rewatching TWWFTE, Demons of the Punjab, Rosa, It Takes you Away and Resolution. The rest is in general above average for me, nothing bad but nothing dreadful. There are signs that things could improve and I enjoy Thirteen and her crew, especially Graham. Chibnall gave us one of the best Daleks episodes in NuWho in my opinion. If the first half of series 11 is not that exciting, the second is better and Chibnall has already shown he can do better, for example with Torchwood series 2 which was a definite improvement over series 1. And I also agree with you regarding series 6 and 7, series 11 was better. I really hate Matt Smith's tenure apart from Rory who was its saving grace.
