Went to HMV today to get the DVD version of The Faceless Ones, to keep the classic DVD shelf up to date, but saw they had one copy of the Steelbook at £25.99. Decided to get that, as I did when they had a copy of Shada Steelbook, as that was sold out online at the time too. I see it is worth a lot more than the RRP already. Which is nice.

Due to the current situation I only got my copy of this yesterday but two episodes in and I'm finding the non-stop flood of Easter Eggs and In Jokes very distracting.
One or two would be fine but every newspaper, sign or pretty much anything that can have writing on it seems to have one.

My favourite by far (and a credit to the team for being up for some very last-minute changes) is {Spoiler}the 'Wanted' posters on the wall of the motorcycle policemen's station. In Ep1 they're the Delgado Master and the Dhawan Master! (When we see the posters again later in the story the second poster is of the Monk as was no doubt originally intended.) I burst out laughing, which did remove me from the story a little bit, but it was worth it!

My Aus copy's in almost an entire week early. Guess I know what I'm watching this afternoon! (Episodes 1 & 3 in their natural state and episodes 2, 4-6 in their B&W animated form, of course )

Is anyone aware of any alterations in the animated version? While they made a big deal about the excised scene in The Macra Terror, there were many other small edits/alterations made to the original soundtracks. I was just wondering if there was anybody here who knows the original Faceless Ones well enough to know if they've done similar things this time? (If not, I've heard it about 20 times myself, so I might give a rundown of anything I think they've changed when I get it early-mid April ) I thoroughly enjoyed this one! It's a much more faithful representation of the original than The Macra Terror was. I completely understand why the made the changes they did to Macra, but what can I say, I'm a purist This was just like slipping in The Invasion for the first time (with the episodes ratio almost reversed, I'll admit ) Having said The Faceless Ones is faithful, I also said I'd point out any changes (such as they are). For what actually counts, nothing was actually changed at all. I only really noticed 3 moments that weren't "exactly how they were meant to be": 1. When Jamie kisses Samantha to get her ticket, they only had the first kiss. After Samantha says, "Eh, kid," she's supposed to kiss him again, and it's this time that Jamie is supposed to take the ticket. 2. The reprise for Episode 4 was re-recorded when filming the episode, but the animated version keeps the audio from the Episode 3 cliffhanger (there is actually a slight dialogue difference between the two). 3. The Episode 5 cliffhanger/ Episode 6 reprise also share the same audio, and the cliffhanger was re-recorded for Episode 6. I can't remember off the top of my head which version was actually used, but that really doesn't matter. Beyond that, the only "changes" were pretty much aesthetic. The captions for episodes 5 and 6 were played over the same images as the cliffhangers, and the telesnaps show very different images beneath the text. I also don't think the shot of the two Chameleons acting as flight controllers on the ship existed in the original - it would have just been another shot of the plane entering the spaceship. Oh, and the Chameleons have been made a bit more... human, I guess. They're not as faceless as they should be. I think they made a mistake by giving them discernible eyes. There was one slightly amusing animation slip-up worth mentioning too - when the Doctor and Nurse Pinto are on the plane, they forgot to animated the Nurse speaking her only line of dialogue Apart from those very minor things though, I didn't really notice anything I wouldn't have already expected I didn't really noticed the "constant Easter Eggs" mentioned above, and I was actively looking for them because I'd been told they'd be there (though it's possible they were more prevalent in the Episode 1 and 3 animations - I didn't watch and wouldn't know). Highly recommended to everyone

In Episode 2 there were advertisements for Marinus Locks and Smugglers Whiskey. A newspaper with a headline "War Machines Defeated". A few nods to Clayton Hickman. And a couple of others that I'd have to watch again to remember.

Yes, I spotted those too and an advert for 'Waterfield Antiques' with a picture of a Victorian high-back chair. But that one (and the other beauty that I mentioned in my post earlier) were on a noticeboard in the airport police station and I think that's in Ep 1, also Jamie and the Doctor hiding behind their 'Easter egg'-filled newspapers - is that Ep 3?
So if you haven't watched the animated Eps 1+3 as yet, that would explain it.

I get why they animated them for this release, but I don't have any interest in watching animated versions if I can watch the real thing. It would be like if they'd wholly animated Shada rather than just the missing scenes - as a fan of the original material, I can't see the point.

Agree about 'Shada' but here I was very non-purist and watched the whole thing in colour animated form first! After the commentaries on the animated eps I'll go round again with the real eps 1+3 and the recons for 2, 4-6. It's great we can choose several ways to enjoy the story, the completeness of these releases is commendable.
Thanks for the comments on the differences, the only thing I noticed was a few simplifications to the Doctor's outfit and it's interesting to know the other details.

True. There's definitely a version for everyone If I'm honest, posting those differences feels like one of the nerdiest things I've ever done, and that's saying a lot from me (Actually, when I really think about, I've posted waaay nerdier stuff than that, but it's times like these when I start to understand why people say I'm weird )

So, thank you!

On here we have the wisdom to also appreciate the value of detailed knowledge of Who
