For next year... will they go all new or give "proper" Target releases to Power and Evil of the Daleks and the Paradise of Death? Or could I cheekily put a slightly biased word in for Obverse's unofficial Dalek movie novelisations getting an official Target release? Assuming they go all original... The Empty Child School Reunion The Sontaran Stratagem The Snowmen Nightmare in Silver Into the Dalek Rosa Of course, who would write them... I mean, Power and Evil are hard to find, so as long as they didn't abridge them, I'd be thrilled. And why not have a Dr Who novel in there?

Just a few years ago, I came across both in a glass display case in Oxfam, £4.99 each. However the inside of the sleeves were tanned, even though they were unread and unbleached. As my own copy of Power was far better and I was not in a spending mood, so I passed. Got home that evening and checked online...£45 each! Ouch! Upside is that a while after, I came across a two volume leather bound First Edition of Anthony Trollope's The Last Chronicle of Barset, in the self same glass case . Erroneously labelled as in need of restoration (they were fine, no beaks or tears). Bought them at £20. Checked online and found the same editions in very similar condition, classed as 'near fine' from the top Antiquary Bookseller in New York......$2.500. I was pleased that I decided to buy on that day.

And then get home and think - What? Why ever not? As for the Trollope's, my Mother collects Folio Society Books and I had sourced the Barset Chronicles for her as Folio Editions, so the First Editions (1867) went to her as a nice gift. Safely ensconced in a glass corner cabinet now. And yes, I showed her the online valuation and pictures as proof!

Thinking back to the DWM Target Book exclusive. Any thoughts as to whether it may be either a paperback selection of some of the recent short stories from the hardback 'Target Book' or indeed a compilation of sample chapters from previous releases?
My thinking, as per my earlier posit that they may do an index book, is that would more likely be a promo, like the DVD bonuses.

I don’t think it’ll feature any samples or will be a re-release of anything, as there was a mention in DWM that it’s for “anyone hoping to expand or complete their collection of Target books”. My initial thought was novelising a few of the minisodes or something like that. That way you get a sample of different takes on a Target novel for those wanting to expand their collection, and pushing you closer to completion if you have the set.

Doctor Who and the Library of Time is the Target novel with DWM... whatever that is! Features the Fourth, Eleventh & Thirteenth Doctors at the very least and has the new style format for Thirteen Target novels.

So the DWM book is extracts from the novelisations of The Pirate Planet, Resurrection of the Daleks, Revelation of the Daleks, the Movie, Dalek, The Crimson Horror and The Witchfinders. It also includes an exclusive introduction written by Jonathan Morris.

It’s nice, but it’s a bit of a stinger that the cover price is £4 dearer than usual for what’s essentially a bit of advertising. I’m a subscriber, so it’s not a killer for me, but would understand others feeling that way.

Well I made a special trip to buy the DWM issue today - only one retailer left in town (Sainsbury's, after Tesco stopped a while back and WH Smith is closing down this month) stocks it now and all recent special issues have sold out before I get a look-in (The S14 Blu-Ray themed issue was the last I got and that was via mail order). The double sided wallchart and accompanying article is excellent, if like me, you are interested in first editions and re-issues.
The Target Book is not far off what I suggested earlier, being sample chapters, but for the forthcoming releases. As a title, 'The Library of Time' did suggest that it could have been an index book. A pity though that every single one is chapter one, or the prologue. I would be nice to dive in at a random chapter point, but the great thing is that this is made to the same quality and flush look as the current range.
All told, a decent set of related articles and bonus material that is worth the extra £4 in my estimate, coming from someone who no longer buys the mag regularly anymore.

The price is worth it for the poster alone - for a fan of my vintage (70s/80s) who was reared on the target novelisations it really is a thing of beauty.

Not sure about the poster. They included the two John Peel Troughton Dalek novelisations, but not "The Paradise of Death". Nor are "Slipback" or "The Pescatons" there... come to think of it, I don't think I saw the Colin Baker missing stories or "K9 and Company" (I suppose "Harry Sullivan's War" wouldn't count).

Which novels will people be picking up in the new batch? One? A few? All?
Personally I’ll be getting Dalek, The Crimson Horror & The Witchfinders. I think, as it stands, with these feeling like event releases and still very much a novelty, it’s the original writers penning their own stories that I think have the scope to bring something substantially different to the table. And that’s what appeals to me with novelising them.

I can’t think of a much better opportunity to get back into reading than the Target books. The subject matter is something you’re interested in and broadly familiar with, which is a good start, coupled with them being breezy reads, which prevents them from being daunting. Good luck!

Me too! tbf i suppose get back into reading is somewhat misleading - i studied English Lit at college. But when you are having to read and study a lot of books for revision and the like, reading felt more like work and a chore than enjoyment 😅 but i have more free time so i am going to be starting again soon, ill also probably get some from the first wave as i missed out on those.
