As a primarily DC fan, Warner is an absolute joke.
What kind of mess were these movies in that they needed to be cancelled in post production?

Honour the source material IMHO - give the fans what they want, then as part of storylines expand/divert/explore etc etc.

Who in their right mind spends $70m on a movie, gets it all the way to "final stages of post-production," and then kills it before it ever sees the light of day?!
If DC/WB/HBO wants to piss away tens of millions, send some of that my way!

Fascinating. You would have thought considering both films are based on firmly established properties they’d release them anyway just to get a little money back.
Clearly something rotten is in the state of Warner Bros at the moment.

Im hearing the New owner cancelled them so they could claim them as Tax Credits.
Also doesnt help with Batgirl that people probably need to see The Flash to understand why Keaton is in it, but the Test Screenings where full of people who didnt get it

Shame as I was quite looking forward to Batgirl. Scoob 2... well, the first one was pretty disappointing IMO so I wasn't going to be rushing to see the sequel. Still, entirely bizarre to scrap these films while they're in the final stages of post-production and then claim it's a "cost-cutting" measure... seems more like a waste of money to me.

Yup, been confirmed over the last few hours it's an official tax write off for never ever releasing it. HBO MAX is being absorbed into another channel (I think I read it was Discovery(?) )..

Oh if that happened with something I had major interest in I'd be Cheesed Off to say to say the least! On the slightly more serious note, I wonder how/if this will affect Bad Wolf Studios long term plans? Regards mark687

So it’s a tax write off and not “Ezra Miller is an absolute fleet of douche canoes” and has poisoned what was left of the good will for the DC cinematic universe?

You have to hand it to Zaslav: he took two movies that would've likely done so-so business and not had much of a footprint, and in cancelling them for (potential) tax benefits not only made them more in demand, but turned almost the entire film industry against Warners. You know, even more than when the last regime dumped all their 2019 movies on HBOMax and violated millions in contracts and residuals, which is what lead them here in the first place.
And now there's talk of laying off a whole lot of HBOMax staff and possibly moving away from scripted content. 'Screw up' doesn't even begin to describe this.

Yes- Scarlett Johanssen sued Marvel/Disney over this with the Black Widow movie. Fair call on her part.

Indeed (and while yes, we don't need to throw millionaires pity parades, streamers should be paying residuals to the talent on all levels and at least this is a step in that direction) - plus, that situation was what drove Nolan out of Warners in the first place. I only hope Alan Horn's return to the company (he was the man who originally brought Nolan over in the first place, among other things) finally knocks some sense into them.

A personal friend of my wife's is in the Aussie movie and tv industry as an Exec Producer (?) I believe, her name is easily top 5 credits not including the actors. She has let slip a few horror stories about behind the scenes politics and some Very Well know actors/actresses who are nightmares to work with on any level.. She has worked on some well known movies that have been shown around the world. And yes she has a day job too for in between jobs, our tv/movie industry is slowly building back up.

Mr H reviews had already reported on it a while ago that the test audiences absolutely hated the film - Keaton was only in 5 scenes and doesn’t even train Batgirl so I guess the executives thought it’s better to cut their losses I feel bad for Brendan Frazer but for such a lovely guy he deserved a better film
