ok read 2 new number 1s
first i think i had my hopes too high because i love hawkman, and it was jeff lemire and bryan hitch. i really really wanted to love it but i didnt. first i thought the art was just ok. there wasnt one panel where i said "WOW!"
and the rest of the book followed. it was ok. it was fine.
the other number 1 i really liked. it was thor number 1 by jason aaron continuing his amazing run on the book. he was joined by new to the book mike del mundo. mike just off the avengers. his stuff looks more like a water
color painting than pencilled comics. but it works. the real thor has taken back his name and is once again the star of his own book. two thumbs up from me
i also read an old trade. called four eyes by joe kelly and max funara. its a depression era, illegal dragon fights, coming of age story. when i finished i wanted more. that says it all.

I've managed to snag the first couple issues of the full-length Seventh Doctor story, Operation: Volcano, and I'm just sitting down to read them now. By Jove, I think Titan have done it. Andrew Cartmel in fine form, a globetrotting adventure, an original adversary and the inclusion of Countermeasures feels neither gratuitous nor unwelcome. It's not over yet, but I am loving this story. Well done, guys.

After reading this thread, I've decided to try and work my way through my collection of trades. Started with Green Lantern Rebirth (04), my first trade. absolutely wonderful. Johns comes into the picture with his view on the mythos and makes it look so easy. there's great nods to the past, and many wonderful seeds sown for his entire run. The emotional beasts, black hand, the emotional spectrum. It's great, it's very broad strokes , but lots of little details that just add colour to the mythos. {Spoiler}
That being said, it does have it's issues. I hate what they did with parallax. before Johns came hal had a great character arc, just as parallax, before even the specter comes into the picture. Removing parallax removes any consequences hal has to face, while the whole carving his identity back is an interesting idea. but he's free of guilt, even batman forgives him awfully fast. but that aside, i love it. looking forward to reading more.

I've been out of the loop for DC since about forever evil and I've been looking to get back in.
Any good storylines from the last few years? (new 52 and rebirth onwards)
One run I'm looking at is Manapul's detective comics. Is it worth picking up?

I've just finished reading the Modesty Blaise story 'Idaho George'. It's a little outdated by nowadays' standards [the title character is a, presumably, white guy masquerading as an Indian to con people out of money] but, if there was a TV series in the seventies, this would have made a fun "little" episode...

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Picked up a graphic novel and the first two issues of The Thrilling Adventure Hour. It was a stage show which became a hit podcast and now it's branching out for the second time into comics. Looking forward to this!

i discovered a french comic called DWARVES by nicolas jarry, published by soleil. its just great. my number one fandom is comics my second is fantasy books. so this is a match made in heaven and i never really buy fantasy
comics. each trade has a different artist, and different dwarf. so each story has a very different feel. the characters are very flawed and it keeps you hanging on, waiting for those flaws to come out and bite them. its great
reading and the different artist's interpretations of dwarves i really like that.
also i went back and started re reading justice league cry for justice its much better than i remember. and boy can that guy mauro cascioli can draw a gorilla!

Finished All-Star Superman yesterday afternoon - the first Superman comic I've ever read. Overall, I thought it was really pretty good. I don't have anything to really compare it to besides the movies, and I can easily say this portrayal of Superman was much more compelling and interesting than Man of Steel's portrayal of the character. That being said, I'm not too sure if I'll start following the comics now - at least, not until I've got a taste of other superhero comics and know what I really want to buy more of.

That being said, I'm not too sure if I'll start following the comics now - at least, not until I've got a taste of other superhero comics and know what I really want to buy more of. All star Superman is one of the best runs I've read. I've yet to see a run that really has it beat. Morrison is generally good, but his stuff may need multiple reads, but in exchange, I generally find myself going back to it more often than not. Myself, I read a fair bit today. The First of three trades of Justice by alex ross. Love the artwork he does. Zero Hour (which I can't make heads or tails of), The Final Night , I rather liked that one, but I love Hal as Parallax. A Death in the Family, fairly solid. Road to flashpoint, Manapul does some great art and the colouring is phenomenal, but I don't care for the backup artist. Plus Manapul is a local boy! After that was Batman the Black Glove & Azzarello. I've been meaning to read this particular WW run for years, I've got the trades all sitting at home. As for Batman, I love the deluxe editions increased size. and the art on the second arc is impeccable. Now, onto The Dark Knight Returns!
