I’m on board with this as well. Much as I disliked Once and Future, it being a monthly released series was one of the highlights. Glad to see the idea being expanded upon for other ideas. They should do a whole range like this for maybe the entire year! We could call it the “Monthly Adventuress” or something. I wonder why this hasn’t been tried before…?
Jokes aside, I am genuinely happy to see formats like this and especially that you aren’t forced to buy all four stories as a single box set. The idea behind the series sounds interesting, the cover art looks great (and it has Sixie in his blue coat!!!) and I like the writers behind this. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

Do you remember they changed the name of the Main Range to the Monthly Range, then oddly denied "MR" ever stood for Main Range on Nick's podcast..despite that, at the time, still being what the thumbnail said - "Doctor Who - The Main Range" And yes, a rare Real Time costume outting for Colin!

Yeah, that was odd... Then again, rebranding of any sorts is not something I think Big Finish has done gracefully - the website redesigns come to mind.

Love the idea. Nice selection of Doctors, an unexplored period in Who story and a great monster that has changed over the years. As others have said, I hope this portrays the different types of Sontarans. Would’ve been nice to have got Christopher Ryan and Jonathan Watson back too, although Starkey will be ace, of course.
The cover is gorgeous. The McGann & Hurt composites are particularly amazing; I can’t see the joins at all. And Colin in his blue outfit once more!
I think the format is a little cheeky. This would otherwise have been released as a four story set and priced as such. Great that Big Finish is listening to feedback, but it’s been done in the easiest way they could think of; they really could do with reviewing their pricing structure rather than trying to force them into what exists currently. It’s difficult to accept £40 when this would ordinarily have been £30 tops.

Nice that we get monthly stories- but the price was a bit "ouch, are they kidding me?"

Love the idea and definitely something I’ll keep an eye on for a future purchase. I do agree that single CD/Download pricing needs to be revamped, as here in Canada just a download is 15$, which just a couple of years ago an single cd release would only cost 9$ which was already almost double the price if the story was in a boxset.

Star Cops, Once and Future and now this, the move to boxsets seems to be being slightly undermined. With a lot of past series being digitally reissued as collections, I wonder if they’re testing the market to see if there’s an interest in ‘separate on release, bundled together down the line’ type structure. Or maybe just overthinking it. Either way, this is unexpected!
Agreed that this is an area that’s very underexplored, quite a rarity in BF at this point. I can’t hack recasts so it’ll probably be a pass for me, but interesting to see if this format leads to anything.

Words can't describe how big he in in Scotland. His Only An Excuse shows at Hogmanay got a million viewers, so a fifth of the country. That'd be bigger than any New Who ep in audience share and size if replicated across the UK. His current show, Two Doors Down, gets numbers not far off that in Scotland. Any time he does a theatre residency - he doesn't need to tour, sells out in minutes. Was a treat having him as the Sontaran leader, especially since he used his old Donald Finlay impression from Only An Excuse.

Yeah, the Canadian pricing is really bad for downloads. This bundle together is $55, which is almost the equivalent of 3 4 disc box sets at pre order prices before the great pice adjustment. It feels like we’re being priced out of this hobby.

One day I’ll hopefully be able to catch up and the many releases I’ve missed, but until then, I have so many stories I can relisten to that I’m not too worried

Speaking as mere human scum who well remembers the glorious arrival of Commander Linx on our miserable planet (as witnessed by me 50 years ago), I give a loud cry of 'Sontar-ha!' and bow my credit card before the might of the Sontaran Empire! 'Your attitude is most commendable. Your obliteration will be postponed. For the moment.'
Despite my jokey intro, I'm expecting serious Sontarans in these, not Strax-y ones, and some epic action with the Rutan swarm. A war where both sides deserve to lose.
(Monthly adventures again - I'm sure that idea could catch on.
More expensive than box set format true, but back in the earlier days of the 4DA and 8DAs as single-disk monthly ranges they were relatively expensive compared with double-disk MR stories I think?)

Re companions, I suspect SJS and Charley will show up with their respective Doctors, and that Sixie and War will be on their own. As to who is in each story, my guess is i tbh at it will go 6, 8, War and then 3, but it could also just be in incarnation order, though I don’t think that’s as much fun

Wait I just realized this is basically the Sontaran version of Peladon, and even shares two of the writers

Without knowing sales numbers I’m speaking out of my butt here but another series moving to a monthly schedule implies to me that sales are down since the great box set migration. This structure has the added marketing value of giving fans what they have been asking for whilst also generating greater revenue in the process. I could of course be wrong.

This is true, but I suspect each episode will end up with an individual cover here. Also the £10.99 releases don't tend to go up after the pre-order window. EDIT: Maybe I'm just more happy to justify this as someone who spends that on Torchwood every month anyway! EDIT 2: Actually, to work it out - Peladon on download is currently £29.99, vs £32 for the Sontarans vs Rutans series. As I say, I assume that the four separate releases will have separate covers, so this is a good deal imo. On CD, Peladon is £34.99 + £3 shipping, so £37.99 total. Sontarans vs Rutans is £40 (no shipping fees for bundles), but that gets you four individual CDs with individual booklets, cases, and - hopefully - covers. Therefore SvR is £2.01 more than Peladon both on CD and download. While there's an increase, as I say it's likely you'll get more for SvR, plus prices have risen at a lower rate than inflation. So a pretty good deal. Are you comparing post release Peladon with pre-order Sontarans? If so, is that a fair/meaningful comparison? As I say in my post, I don't think a £8.99 DL/£10.99 CD release has EVER gone up in price, so yes I think this is a meaningful comparison. Plus it has now been confirmed that they're getting individual covers. The news article does say that "the above prices include a pre-order discount and are subject to change..." but the Torchwood and Once and Future news articles have said that too and neither of those went up after general release. It's pretty safe to say that comparing the bundle price to the Peladon boxset price is the fairest comparison there is.
