'Linx!'
This is excellent news. If I hadn't already subbed, I'd be doing so like a shot!
EDIT: 'Subbed'. Now there's a blast from the past!

(Because ' Subscribers Get More' !) Now in life you need to subscribe to virtually everything to have any real enjoyment...
Whilst Big Finish went in the opposite direction and decided the subscription model wasn't the way forward!
How times change.

Considering that tomorrow is the 50th of 'The Time Warrior' part 4, I am slightly surprised that the first episode of this hasn't got a release date yet...

Interesting that jn tbe podcast excerpt from tbe extras John Dorney refers to this a a boxset, suggesting that is how it was originalky planned befire a later decision to switch to monthly releases.

But will it 'work'? If money is as tight generally as they say, our personal spending limits won't be going up. If BF prices rise (directly or indirectly), the only thing we can do is buy fewer releases. This has certainly been true for me over the last couple of years.
However, in this case I am fully signed up for a magnificent display of Sontaran prowess and the total obliteration of Rutan scum. (With those pesky do-gooder Doctors getting in the way, as usual.)
And I do like monthly releases, for fun and nostalgia value.

Possibly buying fewer release might mean buying one or two out of the four in this miniseries so BF still get some revenue whereas, if it had been released as a boxset, buying fewer release might have meant not buying it at all in which case BF would have got no revenue at all. I think what we are seeing is basically an example of the so-called shrinkflation.

Really interesting one this. The practical side of my brain says agrees that had it been a box set then this would have definitely been cheaper (and I think that there being an overall artwork proves this was the intention).
However, I do like the fact that each story will feel more special with it's own artwork and news features. I also like the idea of more focus on mini series as well - the bulk of my Big Finish purchases are from releases that are part of a wider story. 8th Doctor, Harry & Naomi or 11/Valerie for instance. They just appeal to me more and once all have released I love the marathon relisten. So more arcs please - whether they be mini or longer term.
So I don't know how I feel to be honest but I enjoyed rambling.

I have high hopes for this series (Dorney’s enthusiasm around it online truly counts for a lot, and the writers involved are of course wonderful) but the Australian price is really hard to justify.
I’m sure some good reviews could push me into a purchase (which I’m secretly hoping they do, SHHH!), but gosh, I really miss the days I could just take a chance on a series like this and support BF with a pre-order.
It’s more or less as I feared when the international pricing changed. Speaking only for myself: doubling the cost doesn’t halve the purchases; it adds a psychological barrier that cuts it down significantly more than that. It discourages impulse buys and puts a perhaps-unreasonable burden on each story to be brilliant.
I actually really like the idea of month-by-month releases in principle. It gives each individual story and its creative team time to shine. It feels more like a capital-E Event and creates watercooler discussion (even if it seemingly backfired around these parts with Once and Future). It lets a series be savoured rather than binged (something I’m looking forward to immensely with the new Star Cops this year). It ought to create a sense of something worthier of one’s money — but the additional $AU price increase largely cancels that feeling out, amplifies the issues above, and forces some Difficult Questions around this beautiful expensive hobby.
Series still looks great, mind. I hope Big Finish have picked the right story to demonstrate this release model. I want to believe.

I'm looking forward to this series too, and do agree with the sentiments mentioned above. As a four-month run, it does make it feel more like a 'special event' that a boxset might not neccessarily have done*, but, yes, it does make it £15 or so more expensive than if it had been released as a set...
*Peladon was good, I liked that, but I don't know if it would have (quite) had the same impact had it been released across four months.

BF have said it was in response to requests for lower price points on new releases

It’s good they’ve responded to feedback, but as per it’s done in the easiest way possible without any thought. Just taking a box set, splitting it across consecutive months and pricing as single releases. Especially for something where we’ve been told a few times now that they’re perfectly standalone, but would be much better being listened to as a series; they’re not even hiding their change of decision there. And it’s worked well for the receptions to Once & Future and The Last Day, hasn’t it?
They could do with re-evaluating their release structure and pricing model, I think. I’m not sure going back to the £10.99 single release model is the answer; they moved away from that for a reason. A lower priced, download only range may have some mileage - Broken Hearts setting the precedent - offering that hybrid of the previous single, full cast releases in a Short Trips style monthly download release.

It discourages impulse buys and puts a perhaps-unreasonable burden on each story to be brilliant. Exactly this. For me even the discussions of price rises crashed my buying as I went from picking up whatever seemed like fun to getting analytical about the value of every purchase.
