Well after years of people asking, seems novel adaptations are back on the agenda. Goth Opera adapted into three parter, featuring Richard Armitage as Rassilon.

Really looking forward to this. Love the novel adaptations, I think they’re one of the best ranges from Big Finish. Hope this is an indication that they’ve been consistent sellers over the years to warrant the risk to do more. And likely a testament to the sales of the Fifth Doctor box sets; they’ve not been my cup of tea so far, but I can’t deny their appeal amongst the rest of the output.
Hope they do Blood Harvest if this proves successful.

Interesting this is coming in at 180 mins as previous Novel Adaptations had all been 120 minutes (except Cold Fusion). I would have thought Goth Opera was one of the "lighter" NA/MAs in terms of page count and complexity and if they could do other stories in 120 minutes, they could have done this in 120 minutes too. Not that I'm complaining, mind you!

Hope they do Blood Harvest if this proves successful.
And can we have the comic "Blood Invocation" as well, do you think?
Never understood why they stopped altogether in the 1st place.
They didn't sell well (or at least they sold slowly but steadily, rather than a lot being sold early on, which seems to be what BF need from a business perspective)

True but I would've done 1 or 2 new ones every couple of years especially since they were a source of vocal Fan Feedback. Regards mark687

I haven’t read either of these books, so I am only going by what I have read on the internet.
Despite featuring the Seventh Doctor and Ace, isn’t Blood Harvest a prequel to Goth Opera?
Was there a prologue in the original novel or has this been added because there are no plans to do Blood Harvest?

True but I would've done 1 or 2 new ones every couple of years especially since they were a source of vocal Fan Feedback. Regards mark687 I wonder how much of a hit they took on the special editions? They were a baffling choice. Limited to 10,000 copies apiece, which The Light at the End never achieved beforehand, and a number that's likely to have only been rarely exceeded in units shifted. Add that on top of CD and DL versions available, them being adaptations with substantial casts and author costs, and mostly comprising of a Doctor who isn't as beloved as others alongside some original companions... they're a niche, of a niche, of a niche. Then there was the bundle they offered, which was dirt cheap and practically gave a couple of them away for nowt - it's probably the best deal Big Finish have done aside from the massive main range sub! They were always going to be fighting an uphill battle, but they also made decisions that were baffling and destructive from the get go. I'm assuming that Goth Opera was commissioned on the basis of the novel adaptations being both acclaimed and consistently regular sellers over the years now time has passed and BF have taken the financial hit - enough to warrant another attempt, at least? Really hopeful it does well for them; love the range to bits.

Was not expecting this. Hope they adapt some of the 8th doctor Novels too If they do, I think they'd benefit from a more serialised approach than what they chose for the VNAs. Nothing would assure the next one, but if it follows on from the previous one I think they'd get more people hooked.

Great (if surprising) news! Pre-ordered this one straight away, I guess the range's sales have slowly improved over the years.
I never actually read any of the Virgin novels, but bought and throughly enjoyed all the previous novel adaptations, Goth Opera seems to be held in high praise so I'm sure this will be worth listening to as well, a rare 3 disc 5th Dr story as well. Nice to hear more of Richard Armitage.
Here's hoping this is the first of more novel adaptations, The Dying Days anyone?
If BF got the rights/decided to adapt any of the BBC EDA's I'd certainly be first in line to pre-order (no disrespect to Liv, Charley Lucie etc but Fitz is still who I think of as the 8th Doctor's main companion)...
