Minuet in Hell
What a surprise, it's garbage, just like it's always been. I knew I should never have bothered revisiting this one, but the completionism wouldn't let me walk away.
Everything is wrong with this. Everything. Except perhaps the title because it does indeed evoke the feeling of being in hell. I can't stand the Buffy knockoff and her ridiculous accent. I can't get over how absurd it is that the US would ever approve of a state called frakking Malebolgia. Paul McGann is wasted with the seemingly unending amnesia. Charley spends what seems like the entire story mired in stupid shit with the Hellfire Club.
How dare they waste Nick Courtney's time on such an awful script. How dare they waste everyone's time, frankly. Absolutely no one involved deserved to have this inflicted upon them.
Listening to this felt like an eternity. Worst release yet, by a country mile. Stay far, far away.

Minuet in Hell
What a surprise, it's garbage, just like it's always been. Nick Briggs is one of the very few Doctor Who writers willing to risk big. Sometimes it results in garbage like Minuet in Hell, but other times it pays enormous dividends such as The Innocent, Creatures of Beauty, or Dark Eyes. I'm willing to put up with the occasional bit of garbage from him to get precious gems like those, and wouldn't want Nick Briggs to change the way he creates his stories.
Even Robert Holmes, considered the greatest Classic era writer, turned out duds like The Space Pirates. But from the same pen we got The Time Warrior, The Ark in Space, and The Caves of Androzani.

Crossover Adventure Productions The Marvelous Land of Oz. If memory serves me right, this was one of Baum's weaker novels but damn they took what was basically Baum making things up as he went along and turned it into a snapshot of a post-Dorothy Oz. The translation scene is even funnier here, the performances are shockingly good, the way they pull off the Tip-Ozma reveal and the extra backstory they add to it are amazing. Eagerly awaiting Ozma of Oz to begin.

I actually enjoyed it! And to find out why, here's me on the thread being (literally) devils' advocate:
(Incidentally, the mods seem to have, most mysteriously and no doubt purely by chance hidden it under 'poll threads' even though it's clearly a story thread with a poll like so many others. Could a kindly passing mod put it back among the other 'Doctor Who' threads where it belongs please? Thank you!)

Lost Stories 2.4 Crime of the Century 'Doctor Who' does ''Mission Impossible' meets 'The Avengers'' in a sprawling, fun, put-your-feet-up-and-go-with-it 'popcorn movie'! Lots of twists, lots of action, lots of unaffordably exotic locations (mind you, you can do wonders with imagination and a good quarry ) and the Doctor pulling all the strings as usual. Couple of criticisms:
{Spoiler}The titular 'crime of the century' is tangential (so 'Black Monday' was an off-the books Soviet plot, who knew? ) and the 'surf dude' translator was a REALLY bad idea that belonged in Season 24 - if anywhere! I thought it was a pity that the Prince died so randomly, and not nearly enough from Markus Creevy, I liked the geezer. Overall, a fun story, and Emma Peel I mean Raine joins the team. My next mission, which I choose to accept, is 'Animal'. Doctor, Ace and Raine - you're needed!

Decent enough ending to a dodgy trilogy.

And tonight I'm going back to the plastic embrace of Devlin Futuretek - your future in our hands.
Unit: Extinction, the first and my favourite box set of the series.

I have a high opinion of out-of-the-box Nick scripts like Mutant Phase and Creatures of Beauty, definitely. I appreciate trying out weird ideas, but sometimes when things go wrong they go very wrong. I agree it's a worthwhile trade, it's just not fun to sit through the failed ones.

Doom Coalition S01E02 "The Red Lady" Another quality story there.. 2 from 2 so far from boxset #1 Those 2 stories are among the best in the Doom Coalition saga, for standing on their own.
Most of the others you have to see in context. However, overall, the Doom Coalition series is better than the Dark Eyes saga, at least in my opinion. And somehow, Ravenous was able to top that.

Indeed Gary R has committed more writing sins than Nick B and Minute is still a beautiful disaster compared to Zagerus and the DU concept IMO.

Counter Measures Volume 1.
Silently cursing myself for waiting so long before picking up this particular range. Two stories down and I'm totally hooked on the 60's vibe.
