MR 48 - Davros
Famous names from classic Who excel in a darkly satirical story (with some unexpected and fun comedy moments which CB is so good at as well as the high drama!) and a totally riveting, outstanding central performance from Terry Molloy.
My favourite parts were the interspersed glimpses of Davros' backstory, great stuff. (I must listen to 'I, Davros'. I know how recommended it is and it sits there in my backlog, looking at me with that unblinking blue eye... )

Re-listens for The Bekdel Test from Diary of River Song 5, and The Eye of Harmony from The War Doctor 3. Both are amazing and -- I dunno, I feel like I have a duty to serious adventure to say that the Mary Poppins references that seem to follow Michelle Gomez everywhere are enough to take a person out of the stories, lol, but they really didn't and it did give me a much welcome chuckle, as did the part where River has trouble figuring out who Missy is, especially.

I'm working away again so tonight I'm going to relisten to The OF box set 1, if I don't nod off.
This is quality stuff btw if you haven't heard it.

War Master 3.3 - The writing and performances on this episode were especially good.
Aside: If the War Master were a D&D character, his alignment would be "avuncular evil". Derek Jacobi jumps between the charming or the evil aspect of his character as quickly and as effortlessly as throwing a switch.

Started on UNIT Assembled. I really enjoy the atmosphere and Benton as the pub landlord. However. Who thought it would be a good idea to have the hunting Silurians howling like werewolves? They are supposed to be higher developed than the human apes with a more ancient civilization... and they came up with howling were-lizards? Not even hunting human hillbillies do this (at least the few I met). I am having a hard time taking this seriously.

Who thought it would be a good idea to have the hunting Silurians howling like werewolves? The new series gave them mammalian eyes and mammalian breasts, which bothers me more.

Dark Eyes S04E04 "Eye Of Darkness". Theoretically I should be able to start on Doom Coalition S01E01 tomorrow. Box sets have been collecting dust for months ! Well I messed up yesterday! I removed S04E03 from my mp3 player, put S04E04 onto my pc to put on mp3 player.. and re- put on S04E03 on my mp3 player.. DOH! S04E04 "Eye Of Darkness" is 100% on today

The Stones of Venice
Pretty good! A solid script well told, with an extremely well done soundscape and lovely music that offers a different flavour than usual. I'm not entirely sold on the fish-men (lingering trauma from Underwater Menace, no doubt), I do really like the Duke n' Duchess story with the curse and the doom of Venice.
While this is ostensibly the future, it's not very sci-fi. It's got more of a feeling of fantasy to it, like we're witnessing the last days of a fairy-tale kingdom. I think it suits McGann beautifully, though I will always wonder what Tom Baker would've made of it. Indeed, after a story dominated by introductions and set-up, and another without much character focus, this is the first proper example of how good a team Eight and Charley can be.
We still haven't matched Storm Warning, but it's a good improvement over the last release. And I live in utter terror at revisiting what's coming next...

Lost Stories 2.3 Thin Ice
Starting on the unheard-by-me rest of 'Season 27' later, but first I couldn't resist another trip to a heist in '60s Soviet Union Moscow and not-so-swinging London's East End with Seven, Ace and the Ice Warriors! Comrades, it's a brilliant story - part 'The Martian Job', part 'Lock, Stock and Two Sonic Nozzles' part Cold War Bond/Smiley plus a lot of Martian heroic myth and both the "Varga" and "Izlyr" sides of their culture on display. And a very human story running through it all, and Ace entangled in the Doctor's latest scheme.
I love the 'big screen' feel of this story, budget no object on audio and a great script by Marc Platt with so much going on all the time. It would have been very good in the original form on TV no doubt (if only...) but here it's expanded into an audio movie and it's a cracking story!
(Ice - cracking - oh never mind... )
