The Behemoth. I really liked this! I liked the lighthearted start with the Doctor‘s little romance and the idea of Lady Clara was brilliant. I also liked the naval battle at the end. There was also just enough of a serious message in this, but as the cast admit in the interview, it gets slightly overshadowed by the antics. I think I continue right on with the Middle. Ooo I think I may give this one a try!😊 You might like this one! Sixie is really sweet in this. Until he finds out about the dark secret... and the black spot on British history. I could imagine a statue of one of these fictional characters being chucked into the harbor as have been the real life ones.
Edit- and funnily enough only the most ridiculous character of the story is an actual historical fact as the extras reveal. Truth is weirder than fiction.

The Maltese Penguin
A suitably weird showcase for Frobisher.

Seeing as circumstances have bought me today to the Town and Abbey ruins which inspired the birth of a legendary monster..and as I type heavy, dark stormclouds are literally settling overhead..there can only be one choice to listen to. Iris Wildthyme and the Claws of Santa.* *Just kidding..It's Dracula's Guests. You been to Whitby? I love Whitby, great little town

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Dreamtime. Never listened to it before.
Got two episodes in and turned it off. I am not an indigenous Australian but I have a niece and nephew who are. I also work with a lot of indigenous kids and this was just so very wrong in so many ways. I could tell that the author had done some research but even just trying to listen to it as a straightforward adventure made me cringe. It’s lovely to hear Australian voices in stories, and I appreciate that the author gave it a go, but to negatively mention the tourists traipsing up and down Uluru (and rightly so - props for doing that in 2004 as well) and then have the centrepiece of the story being that the rock is launched into space with 7 and Baiame atop it made it meaningless.
Well-intentioned but misguided, I’m afraid.

Finished the Sixie trilogy ending with Static. That was quite a good run. And Static continues to be a very creepy story with lots of atmosphere.

1408 (Stephen King)
An audiobook read by Mr King. Not half bad once you get past the odd and quite frankly intrusive Jazz music at the beginning. Have to say there’s definitely something to be said about audiobooks being read by their original authors.

The 199 steps to the Abbey were a bit of a killer mind you...😉

I went to Whitby Abbey last year right around Halloween and they had a whole elaborate immersive Dracula event with live actors and all kinds of crazy light effects😊🧛🏻♂️

Excelis Rising
Another good-but-not-great chapter in the saga. I find its setting and ideas more interesting than Dawns, but it also lacks Iris and is therefore much less fun. Also, ending feels somewhat rushed, as though we jump from the end of a Part 2 to midway through Part 4, in Main Range terms.
But, nonetheless, I thought the museum and the spiritualism made for an evocative setting, and Sixie is great as always. Also, Anthony Stewart Head is much more pleasing to the ear as Maupassant than he was as Grayvorn. I think silky menace suits him more than gruff and growly.
I admit to a little bit of disappointment that Excelis itself seems underdeveloped in this story compared to Dawns. I was hoping we'd chart the rise and fall of a nation, but it seems more concerned with Head's character(s) on a personal level. I don't hold it against the story by any means, it's just not what I was expecting. At least now I have a better idea of where the arc is going.
Onward to part 3!

Cry of the Vultriss. A nice adventure with some strong visuals that has made me ponder, among other things, upon the nature of Martian table manners. If there were ever a desire to do motion comic previews of story scenes, Vultriss would make a solid candidate.

Another oldie from the Monthly Range this morning, The Holy Terror. I'd almost forgotten how much fun Frobisher is to listen to Solid, intriguing story, too. Been so long that I didn't remember any of the story beats, so the particularly grim ending was a great touch.

This was the first Big Finish audio that caused me to stop whatever it was I was doing at the time (the ironing, as it happens) and focus fully on the story. A magnificent story!

In readiness for my soon-to-arrive Series 18 Blu Ray, I'm listening to The Leisure Hive soundtrack by Peter Howell on CD. Still one of Doctor Who's best scores, in my view. Eighties-tastic!

I thought so too...😝...especially as it will be my fourth attempt in the past year to actively listen to all eight boxsets before picking up Series 9..
