Batman
An audiobook reading of the 1989 Tim Burton film done by, depending who you ask The Bookworm/The Mad Hatter himself Roddy McDowall
I enjoyed some of the prose and McDowall is a very enthusiastic reader (even if he makes no effort to distinguish between character voices) but and I’m not sure if this was because it was based off an earlier draft of the script or that it merely had to be condensed for the novelisation the plot is really lacking.
Cuts out a lot of really memorable Joker scenes such as the boardroom scene and ‘The Pen is Mightier than the Sword’ and skips over some characters entirely. Knox appears twice and then never again whilst Vicki Vale and Bruce Wayne’s growing relationship happens mostly off screen. (Off page?) What’s worse is the revelation of Jack Napier killing the Waynes is only told through exposition in the last few pages.
Also weird seeing an oddly flippant version of Batman who just apparently flies around in an heavily armed Bat Wing (and I’m talking heavily armed) taking pot shots at random thugs.

Hope to continue with Time War 4 tonight. So far, this is fantastic- thanks to Terry Molloy Who is really rocking the boat here. I admit after the previous sets which left me a bit wanting, I had not expected much. However, this one definitely starts very strong. I am pleasantly surprised. Defintely a vast improvement Finished Palindrome. I am blown away. I had not expected this level of awesome.

Harry Houdini’s War by Steve Lyons
Mixed bag, but one that sides to something better than something worse. The first and last parts are wonderfully, both feeling distinct and having some great ideas and plots. But I don’t find that parts 2 and 3 were very well done, often dragging and taking things and stretching them out. I loved the final twist about timeline placement in the Doctor’s life, and John Schwab was great fun as Harry Houdini.
An Ocean of Sawdust by Paul Starkey
My first true subscriber short trip that I’ve listened to(others have just been short trip rarities) and I was very pleased. Paul Starkey writes a emotionally charged tale for the Eighth Doctor and Stephen Critchlow reads it wonderfully. The music and sound design is well suited to the tale and a few moments were perfectly done. I was engrossed from start to end and highly recommend that all subscribers listen to this tale.
The Enchantress of Numbers by Simon Barnard and Paul Morris
This may be one of my favourite 4DA’s to have been released. The first historical for this Tardis Team, and the way Barnard and Morris have mixed sci-fi into the plot, while making it feel natural not only to the plot but also to each character. There are many twists and turns, much like the maze on the Lovelace estate. There is no drag and the pacing is perfect for the 1 hour format. Baker, Slavin and Finty Williams are putting in amazing performances. Highly, highly recommended for sure!
The Important Questions by Guy Adams
A fantastic finale to a brilliant box set. Much like the first two episodes dedicated its run time to exploring the two male leads, Adams gives Milly Thomas’ Georgina a stunning heist story. And when everything comes together at the end, it is weaved together in gripping and hilarious fashion. Volume 3 must surely be announced any minute now right?
File on an Awesome Amateur by James Mitchell and adapted by Peter Mitchell
Another good tale of espionage, though not as strong as the first two. I admit that the side characters seemed much more caricatured than others, and there were a few moments that seemed odd, but pacing was excellent and Ben Miles continues to be an absolute delight.
The Headless Ones by James Parsons and Andrew Stirling-Brown
I went into this one with extremely low expectations, as the reviews were very lukewarm and I am not a fan of jungle set stories for the most part, as they tend to bore me. However, while I can’t say this was anything great, it was a highly enjoyable story that entertained me, made me think, and kept my attention throughout. There is a great use of Peri’s background as Queen, and The Doctor is ever so brilliant, as is always the case when it is Colin Baker at the helm. The guest cast is spot on, and the mix of likeable and despicable characters is done well. The themes of colonization and prejudice were well developed and the writers wrote it in an engaging way that didn’t feel preachy at all. In summary, I think that while it might not be something everyone enjoys, it does what it sets out to do very well, and made it so I enjoyed my hour with it.
Family Matters by Lisa McMullin
Cracking start to the third volume of the Paternoster Gang, with Lisa McMullin delivering yet another great script, performed by three extraordinary leads. A story that really explores the ideas of family, relationships, and heritage(wonder why that is), Family Matters plays to the cast well, giving Neve McIntosh and Catrin Stewart meaty material, and Dan Starkey gets to be some of the funniest he’s ever been, especially with Strax and the Lion.

Listened to the first three parts of Time War 4. The way things are going, I think this may be like Ravenous where the last set put to right most of the complaints I thought I had about previous sets. So far it's been brilliantly written and performed and very riveting, I had great trouble saving one story for later.
I am still not quite sure about Bliss but I'm not sure if it's fair to complain about that if I can't even put my finger on why I'm complaining, either. I think maybe I will see if time will tell with that.

I've been listening to the "Star Wars: The Original Radio Drama" audio book that I got in my Star Wars Humble Bundle and loving every minute. And it makes me so happy to hear the Star Wars theme at the start and finish of every chapter. It's great isn't it? I remember it being broadcast here in the UK on Radio 1 - primarily a 'pop music' station - all those many years ago. Loved it then - love it now. It's a really thorough adaption, and very well played. Nice to have a couple of original cast members there too. I remember thinking the actress who played Princess Leia was particularly good. I should listen to this again sometime. Fantastic. I still love it. It was very well done.

Looking on Wikipedia, I see the company also did adaptions of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. I don't remember hearing about these at all. I'd love to hear them!

I got them all in a Humble Bundle that included Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Tales of the Jedi, Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith, Dark Forces Collectors Trilogy, and Dark Empire. I enjoyed the whole set.

On recommendation and really enjoying it-could it be Talons large furry puppet kept me away from it
MR-148-5D-Rat Trap-Tony LEE
enjoyable first episode with older Nyssa Tegan and Turlough and actually nothing like I thought it might be. There is something about Peter in the audios that I truly enjoy different from his TV persona when I first watched but let us be honest Tom Baker was going to be a very hard act to follow at the time. I have a driving lesson then will make the train journey for a few nights in Edinburgh glad to say sun is shining too my next listen will be on train but it won’t be this as I only just got it on Cd lol from eBay recently along with heap loads of others that I didn’t own on cd

Perfect Home (Nick Warburton)
Another tale from the Man in Black. A terrific and deeply unsettling two hander between Toby Jones and Zoë Tapper.

Relistening to Rage of the Time Lords in anticipation of Hearts of Darkness' release next month. Even though its my least favorite War Master box set, it's still really good.
Truly my favorite Doctor Who range in recent years, along with Torchwood. Props to Scott Handcock.
