It is the only Lost Story of Colins I have not yet listened to and always see less than favourable reviews when I have contemplated it ...so it is still in the not quite yet pile Yeah, I wouldn't recommend it unless you love Sil and he can carry the whole story for you. Well I will eventually leave no stone unturned well apart from Torchwood hahahaha

Mission to Magnus
This sucked. It combines two things I don't care for - the cliche planet dominated entirely by one gender, and the Ice Warriors. I don't care for the lumbering lummoxes seen in most of their stories. The Peladon-flavor Ice Warriors are much more interesting, because they actually have character and a culture. The usual Sixth Doctor verbosity here felt like stalling for time, which is curious since both episodes were in excess of their intended 45-minute TV timeslot. The villainous scheme of the Ice Warriors is fine enough, but it is resolved rather easily after the requisite amount of running around. I thought with the petition from Magnus to use time travel against their rivals and Aznrnoronr the bully overseeing that side of things could give us some interesting, Gallifrey-style material, but negotiation is quickly abandoned in favor of evil schemes. Sigh. I also didn't care for the ending, where the menfolk talked about the need for the sexes to work together without trying to snatch control from each other (yes), and promptly veered off into thinking lewd thoughts about what they'd do with their new "wives" (NO!!!). I mean, the idea of integrating men and women is alien to the Magnusians to begin with, why would you spring that on them in the first five minutes? Time and place, boys. However this story does have one excellent saving grace in the form of Sil. He is one of the best inventions from Sixie's tenure, and Nabil Shaban steals every single scene he's in. The story was not strong overall, but his dialogue was excellent and he kept things lively. I hope he returns to Big Finish for more, he's certainly welcome back any time. It is the only Lost Story of Colins I have not yet listened to and always see less than favourable reviews when I have contemplated it ...so it is still in the not quite yet pile For what its worth (admittedly not a lot) i listened to it today and i really enjoyed it! I do love that era of who though especially the Philip Martin Stories so i am probably slightly very biased. Its a fun entertaining story that genuinely feels would have been on telly at the time. Definitely can see why people dislike it tho it is very cliched and “of its time”. Entertaining tho.

Prisoners of Space (Colin Brake)
And there we have it. The last story of the Dan Dare Audio Adventures. So far.
It's a really fun story with surprisingly a lot of world building. I do hope we get a continuation sometime in the future but if this truly is the end for Dan Dare then I think it makes for a fitting finale.

I saw the thread for Red Dawn pop up a few days ago and felt a pang of nostalgia for it. On relisten, it's like being transported to another era... Just not 1984. The late-1990s/early-2000s optimism of a new Space Age is well and truly in force here. The NASA mission feels terribly fragile in the face of alien intelligences--Ah... But that's the thing. They aren't alien. Mars is the Ice Warriors' homeworld. Their world. And the story uses that to full effect. The humans are the ones out of their element. It's almost like being on the other side of a Pertwee-style first contact story. The storytelling has a sleek construction to it that doesn't betray the texture or power behind the Martian characters. They're treated as a culture in their own right, rather than a point of opposition for the Earthers. A bit lean runtime-wise, but it uses what it gives us to great effect. A nice debut from an old (occassional) adversary. ( Source: Hisi79)

Torchwood: Coffee. Seeing that ending coming was no comfort! Another great episode.
And before that, The Home Guard. Which was an interesting mish-mash of ideas, but didn’t quite hit the mark. James Dreyfus plays an unremarkable version of the Master, who allegedly was written to be reminiscent of Delgado. But there’s none of the suave menace, and he’s left with a shadow of a regeneration.
Meanwhile, Elliot Chapman breathes life into the character of Ben. I wish he’d reconsider playing the part, as the interactions between he, Anneke and Frazer are magical.
The script has some great ideas, but the skeleton doesn’t sit together well (in my opinion). One nice touch was having Ben break the conditioning following the TARDIS crew’s earlier encounter with the Macra.
I hope this is not the end for the Early Adventures. I love the Hartnell and Troughton eras. And these stories, along with the companion chronicles have been wonderful accompaniment to the television stories.

Continuing with B7 The Armageddon Storm, with part 2. Are you still enjoying the story? I ask because I recently listened to it, and whilst I found Part Two possibly the weakest segment, I really love the story as a whole. It's great to hear Tom Chadbon again - his and Paul Darrow's voices, are rich and highly listenable: you really get the impression the two actors are enjoying themselves. One of my favourite Blake's 7 audios.

Dark Shadows - Blood and Fire.
This must be one of the best ever Dark Shadows audios - certainly, it is one of my favourites. A mammoth cast and an intriguing story. Does this new Dark Lord voice have a slight similarity to Donald Trump, or are my ears deceiving me. Anyway, 'The Eleventh Annual Scribe Awards (2017) best audio drama winner' speaks for itself. A rollicking, Brontë-esque, horror/romance/tragedy. David Darlington's music dovetails wonderfully with Robert Cobert's original score to lend this a certain timelessness that is easy to drink in. Wonderful.

Alice in Wonderland (Lewis Carroll)
Read by Jon Pertwee. Cuts out a lot of the original story but makes sure to retain the more recognisable scenes. The Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Tea Party... you get the idea. It’s very much a ‘Best of’ Alice in Wonderland in that regard.
Still, Jon Pertwee uses his signature silly voices, no doubt honed from years of doing The Navy Lark and Worzel Gummidge, to great effect in terms of characterising all of Wonderland’s various inhabitants.

BF Holmes: The Tangled Skein
I enjoyed the story and I liked the authentic style of the narration, dialogue and characters even though the story was wildly fantastical. But I can forgive/accept that when Holmes and Watson sound and act authentically and the narration is also properly 'Conan Doyle-esque' as it is here.
I'm really not convinced about these more fantastical stories, give me Holmes versus human villains and no supernatural elements for choice. If they slop some luminous paint on a big dog to pretend it's a demonic hound, that's fine! But IF you want to have Holmes and Watson meet Dracula, this is the way to do it! And a great cast.

I have had 5 major interruptions whilst trying to finish 6th Doctor "The Wormery".. I might have to put this one aside and try another one, then go back to it.. The Universe clearly doesn't want me to hear it!

Today has been The Vanity Trap so far, which despite it being a bit overlong, is tremendous fun. Now to watch some WandaVision, and then listen to another audio!
