Using aussiedoctorwhofan as inspiration, I did a re-listen of The Fourth Wall yesterday. I think it's a brilliant piece, and quite funny. A great early story for Flip, showcasing her ability to problem solve, sorta. A reminder of how good a writer John Dorney is.

Re-listening to Master of Callous in prep for Anti-genesis as i figured they would probs link slightly considering they share a certain character (well other than the master obviously). On ep two currently and It really is as good as i remember, that first episode especially. I mean its brutal and awful and the master is ruthless but the character drama is so good. You really get to live in the world and get to know the characters - in many ways it really is the War Master at its biggest potential - a character drama first with the master in the back ground.
I do still think i prefer Only the good, mainly because sins of the father kills the pace a bit even if i do remember enjoying it more than most. Only the good, now that is the best big finish has ever done - the sky man alone is amazing but all the stories are really great and the war master has got a great arc. Rage of the Time lords was fun, the first two stories moreso although it did all feel a bit like it was treading water and was mote pulpy than the macabre tales of the first two but it was still good. I wonder if ill fare any better with Anti Genesis, i have heard some really great things and some really not great things so we shall see!
Anyways i digress, master of callous is amazing, really enjoying my relisten.

The Darkness of Glass (Justin Richards)
An underrated gem from the Fourth Doctor Adventures. And those final moments still send shivers up my spine.

Finally forced myself to the end of UNIT Dominion. I am still divided on this story. I like the characters, I like the Master, Sylvester is quite good in this... however, the plot and the extra-dimensional aliens left me completely cold. I just do not think it is anything new or original, and it did not grip me the first time, and neither did it on re-listen. I also think Klein works best as a Nazi opponent, not as a UNIT member. And I found the side character who is becoming a father and that whole side-story pretty contrived. Well, at least I gave it a second chance.

Fourth Doctor Adventures - The Justice of Jalxar.
It's a joy to hear Tom Baker and late, lovely Mary Tamm bickering with John Dorney's joyful dialogue. To add Jago and Litefoot into the mix, not to mention a deadly robotic killer, and it's a pleasure to sit back and enjoy the show. Terrific.

"Once more unto the backlog, dear friends...once more..." Day 7 Today... Torchwood Soho : ParasiteBack in November I had intended to 'dive headfirst' into the final part of the Dracula trilogy, but circumstances prevented me from fully doing so (at the time it wasn't so much a graceful dive into the story, more an uncoordinated belly flop with arms flailing wildly). Since then it has sat in the backlog, waiting to be listened to. Day 8 Dracula's WarThey've been languishing in backlog hell for almost three years now so it's way beyond time to start tackling three of the original quartet of Jack Gerson audiobooks. First up....Days 9, 10, 11 and 12 (!) are going back to the 1970's and the seedier side of British espionage. The next four days of what I now like to think of as "Occasionally Locked Down With The Backlog" (because listening on a daily basis has not exactly gone as I hoped.. 🤷♂️) will have the smell of murder, menace, double crossing, cheap whiskey and even cheaper cigarettes prevailing the air. Or as the Big Finish website prefers to call it... The Treachery Game
😊
