Gallifrey Time War 4.2 Dissolution
Character-driven episode and a quiet sidestep away from the Time War - as far as such a thing is possible... and then... I think things are about to hot up!

MR Listen Thru 214 Life of Crime-220 Quicksliver (So our hint at the end of You Are the Doctor becomes What would happen if Mel came back and BF did their version of Season 24/25 , however this means a backward step in character for Ace IMO. Luckily Sixy and Mrs Clark and Phillipa have a much more positive reaction. Regards mark687

MR: Davros.
Edit: one I've never previously finished, not for any reason really. I'm about 1/3 through and this is excellent stuff, but needs full attention due to the in depth chats between the leads. Curious to know where this is going.

MR Listen Thru
221-The Star Men-226 Shadow Planet/Worlds Apart
(Our 2nd unlikely ruturn to the Range [5DA vol 1 Boxset aside] and its fine the stories faithful to its TV Era. This is followed by a good format shift and nods back to more simpler times)

The Robots 2 - Toos and Poul.
There's no doubt about it - enjoyable though this is, and wonderful as it is to hear Pamela Salem and the late David Collings back and sounding as good as ever, so far this set isn't a patch on Volume 1. Whereas that first set had considered, deeply painted characters and performances and thoughtful, intelligent stories that took their time to unravel (often with shades of Mary Shelley and Isaac Asimov), the first two stories in this set are more gung-ho, reliant on action and feature characters who are less carefully drawn out. The first set contrasted the futuristic world and environment of Kaldor with the rawness of human emotion. Again I must stress that Toos and Poul is good, and I did enjoy it; it continued the skill in world building on Kaldor and the superficially calm atmosphere therein. The performances are great, and the sound design, apart from the occasional influx of 'comedy music', is convincingly spacious, I'm hoping that the final story propels this range back into greatness. I hope so anyway: I've bought Series 3 & 4!

MR Listen THRU
227-High Price of Parking-233 Static
(So the Season 24/25 redux sets continue to pay homage to authenticity as there's 1 good story, 1 great story. and 1 urrrgh story, 5th and Tegan finally have no buffer and the result is a more engaging 5th, and suddenly BF have stumbled into a great new direction for the 6th with a new TARDIS Team)

The Quantum Possibility Engine (Guy Adams)
Even though I’ve not really been that impressed by the Doctor/Mel/Ace stories that came before this, I have to say I rather adore this one. Has some cracking dialogue and it’s always nice to see Big Finish focus on elements from the comic strips outside of just the Comic Strip Adaptations.
Now, that I think about it I think this story might have been my first exposure to the character of Narvin which gives it an extra point in its favour.

Finished off the Terrahawks freebies I’ve accumulated with Vile and No Second Chances. Vile’s satire worked well and No Second Chances was surprisingly dramatic.
I’m not going to be rushing to buy Terrahawks off the back of these, as it’s a distinctly odd series which I lack any fondness for (especially compared to other Gerry Anderson series), but maybe one day.

MR Listen Thru 234 Kingdom of Lies-244 Warlocks Cross (Season 19's back with a modern eye, some good Solo Six, Mel's Return Arc is resolved with an odd side-step, and through the solo Docs are strong and the Arc idea intriguing, plus a couple of notable returns, i find the hooking point character of the trilogy really dull. MR Listen Thru 245 Muse of Fire-252 An Alien Werewolf in London (We're hitting our last quarter now, with a couple of fine standalone s, our final unexpected proper return as well as the first TARDIS Team that the MRs hinted at, and another "What if Season 25/26 had gone this direction?" this time with the added bonus of Universal Horror Film homages Regards mark687

Baker's End: Gobbleknoll Hall
Perfect listening for last night of full moon... Comedy horror with a wonderful send-up of those TV 'ghost' shows, it's barmy and charmy and jump-scare alarmy and "The Sinister Presence" has me laughing out loud every time.
'Baker's End' was always a fun series (if much too short) but this episode is genius!

I've been doing some Lost Stories listening:
Paradise 5: Alex McQueen!!! A pretty good story for Six and Peri. I can see it in my head while listening.
Point of Entry: An even better story! I love this one, and for the life of me I have no memory of listening to this one before. I think I missed it my first time through these a few years back. I'm sure it would have left an impression if I had heard it. Great use of the guest cast here, and an excellent showing for this Tardis team. You get the sense that Six and Peri are really clicking as a team in this. I great pseudo-historical, and got me doing some research on Kit Marlow. As a theater lover, I've heard of and read some of his plays but knew absolutely nothing about the man. Great job BF.
The Macros: a solid story. Some very good ideas stemming from the mystery surrounding the Philadelphia Experiment, but I find myself already forgetting some of the details of the story.
Thin Ice and Crime of the Century: I love these stories. People complain about not getting to know much about Raine, however I disagree. These stories set her up very well. I wish we could have more with her, I believe she had the potential to be a great new companion for Seven. I haven't gotten to the next two stories in this run in my re-listen yet, but I remember not being as impressed with them as I was with these two. Even so, I'm looking forward to it. MORE RAINE!

Oh, I've heard for years how bad the Second Doctor Lost Stories boxset is, but I gave it a shot the other day. I disliked it from the start and couldn't get more than 20 min in. The characterizations of the main cast is off from the very first line, and I just couldn't get past that. But maybe I'll try again sometime.

Dark Shadows "Blood Dance".. I can't recall if I said so before, but I hit a bit of a plateau on my 6th Doctor marathon- I reckon I got through a good 30 (?) stories before I realised my mind was wandering too much during "Behemoth".
I am trying to get through all the Dark Shadows stories I haven't listned to yet- it helps that these are 1 cd stories too.
