'The Death Collectors' and 'Red' for me. Hugely underrated in my view. I would love to hear more BF stories from this writer. The Death Collectors is a great one. McCoy is just awesome in it, and those Dar Traders have to be the coolest things BF has ever come up with. I love those voices. Why it doesn't get more attention is beyond me. Some others in the Main Range I'd rank as underrated: The Fearmonger, The Stones of Venice, The Time of the Daleks, The Sandman, Omega, Catch-1782, Faith Stealer, Time Works, Valhalla, The Mind's Eye...

Also, Time Reef. It's a magnificent, strange story only marred by the ridiculous three-episode format (which I never liked for the main range). Hardly ever mentioned.

'The Death Collectors' and 'Red' for me. Hugely underrated in my view. I would love to hear more BF stories from this writer. If you like The Death Collectors, Stewart Sheargold did a prequel with the Companion Chronicle The Darkening Eye, narrated by Nyssa and the only CC set in season 19. Make sure to ask Tim Bradley about it. There's a fascinating little one-part story with Death Collectors, Spider's Shadow. It affords the listener a glimpse into the Doctor's perspective of his plans as we follow him going through the story in random order and learning the situation along with him. It's an original story idea considering we often follow the chronological series of events and it's the Doctor popping up in random order, like The Shadow Heart. Is that really done all that often either? Other than Shadow Heart I can't think of another example.

Is that really done all that often either? Other than Shadow Heart I can't think of another example. Flip Flop also follows events from the Doctor's perspective, learning as he goes, with external events presented in non-chronological order. But you're dealing with an additional complication in that one. As for the Doctor popping up in random order as we watch the chronological series of events, Moffat's first season with Matt Smith is the only other example that comes to mind.

Never realized how underrated Loups-Garoux was as a story. Some great stuff by Marc Platt

I adore Invaders from Mars, but it doesn't get a lot of love.
Seasons of Fear is brilliant.

It's a new angle on the Cybermen, which is incredibly rare, and it's a nice tie-in to the also underrated Cyberman series.

The Stage Plays are underrated. Granted, you do have to go in with the mindset that they are a) of their era and b) adaptations of a highly visual medium, but they are interesting curios of stories that would otherwise only, at best, be seen again through grainy video camera recordings on YouTube. I also find the process of adapting them very fascinating, some of the best behind the scenes material.

I consider the Divergenf Universe to be an underrated idea. A universe without constants like progressive time or a structured history or whatver, and without the staples of Who like Daleks and humanity. It was a grand idea, ruined only by an execution that didn't really know what to do.

I consider the Divergenf Universe to be an underrated idea. A universe without constants like progressive time or a structured history or whatver, and without the staples of Who like Daleks and humanity. It was a grand idea, ruined only by an execution that didn't really know what to do. I'd argue only Scherzo really used the idea of a timeless universe in any great detail. The Doctor and Charley losing their sensory input to the point they couldn't tell how long had passed. The other stories in the two seasons hinted at events progressing, time in all but name. I agree that the Divergent Universe setting was an interesting concept badly done. One take on it could have been somewhere time exists, but only for a certain duration. Everyone only has the memory span of a single day or week, forgetting anything that happened before then. That deadline could have added an extra threat, that the Doctor or Charley lose themselves or a significant memory, on top of whatever is already happening with the locals. There are stories with Bernice Summerfield that have an interesting take on time and one's perception. Random Ghosts from the New Adventures box set is a good random order with a side of memory loss example, while the whole Year Zero arc was about a culture enforced to only know about anything from a specific point onward (the year after the titular Year Zero). Any investigation into history illegal, which means Benny is once again in trouble.

I don't see Sword of Orion getting a lot of love, but it's one of my favorite Eight stories. Really well paced, lots of tension, and the Cybermen in classic form.

The Key 2 Time trilogy is a favourite of mine. If memory serves, that one doesn't get all that much love.
1963: The Space Race got middling reviews but I thought that was superb. Not quite as good as Common Men but close.
Zagreus is an all time classic. Will not accept a bad word said about it... except for the Third Doctor audio clips. That was a bad idea.
Time of the Daleks is a great little story. Deserves more attention, I'd say.
Medicinal Purposes is one of my favourite stories. Whilst the characterisation of the Doctor might be off, I can accept it when the story is as bloody great as this. David Tennant's best performance in Doctor Who, too.
Other underrated stories which come to mind are Thin Ice, Night Thoughts, Bloodtide and Something Inside.

Finally, I rather enjoyed Destination Nerva. It's not perfect, by any means (it could easily have used another episode, for one,) but I couldn't see why it became such a bete-noir. And I'm not normally a big fan of nostalgia-driven stories, either.[/quote]
Destination Nerva is one of my favourite 4DA!

I've only listened to it once, but Lords Of The Red Planet was a masterpiece, The Maltese Penguin though not on the same level as The Holy Terror was quite fun, and The Company Of Friends (especially Mary's Story and Fitz's Story) remains one of my favourite 8th Doctor releases.
