Heaven Sent A beautiful masterpiece of an episode! Peter really can carry a whole narrative by himself! The gothic imagery is also gorgeous! It’s an episode I don’t think would work in any other context with any other Doctor morning the loss of any other companion! 12 and Clara have such a deep bond (soulmates), that I don’t think Heaven Sent nor Hell Bent would work nearly as well without the two of them as the focus.
Next up Hell Bent! I will be curious how I feel about this one this time around. The first time I watched it I was bracing myself for something awful due to its reputation, but I ended up thinking it was messy but had some genuinely very good (if upsetting) character drama. This maybe because I am far more emotionally invested in 12 and Clara’s relationship than I am with Gallifrey. Yes, I know I have some strange tastes and options for a Whovian, but that’s just me🤷🏻♀️😉 I will see what I think this time though🤔
Side note: I think some of the best Doctor Who episodes are those where you could not picture any other Doctor/Companion(s) in the episode instead of the ones already there. This is one of the reasons why Heaven Sent works so well!

Deadly Assassin (All this lacks is a re-dub of dialogue by Geoffrey Beavers in place of Peter Pratt and this story would be 10/10 instead of Borusa's 9/10.) Regards mark687 Hm, the edit would be possible - Beevers did narrate the audiobook...

Warriors of the Deep - Absolute trainwreck of a story that would be funny if it weren't so excruciating. Mr Polly says he actually likes the Myrka and thinks it's a good costume. Strange man. What did you think of Peter Davison's performance in it? I thought he was brilliant in it - almost single-handedly holding the thing together.

But generally speaking, I think the regulars usually give an admirable effort even when the material's not so good.

One of the things I've been doing when I take over baby-care is rewatching New Who again. The ending to "Last of the Time Lords" really rubbed me the wrong way, and did so in a way that encapsulates a lot of the gripes I had with RTD era generally. The sappy-ness mixed with grandiosity, the deux-ex-machina (not exclusive to his era) - I mean really, 'oh, so he worked out that if everyone said "Doctor" at the same time and thought of him it'd somehow undo the errm...aging thing? what? - that sort of thing. But the episodes I loved were still great. (ie, 42, Human Nature/The Family of Blood, Blink). My enjoyment was only lessened by the fact that I tend to take him from ~9pm to somewhere to 2 and 4 am, so my wife can sleep.... The undoing the aging thing was bit ridiculous seeing Tennant becoming basically Tinkerbell with the whole “Doctor” thing all at the same time and glowy floaty sparkles🤔 out of curiosity how would you have resolved that plot point? I can see where RTD was coming with it being based around belief but it could have been handled better🤔 You know, I'm just not sure.
I might not have gone with aging. Could have just been imprisonment. I don't know.
Had I, I might have gone with a more direct approach. ie, he tells her there's a relatively easily activated presetting in the TARDIS, something he thought up before jumping into the lion's mouth. Say, takes her back one year but makes sure the thing lands in the same place relative to its surroundings. Then she organizes something. Maybe an infiltration of the Master's group, etc., but something to get her in the position to activate a device.
Or maybe one of those times weapons are OK. An armed revolt.
The effect would be the same, whether he was aged or just imprisoned. I don't know how else to put it other than that the way that episode played out felt downright "corny" or "cheesey." These shots of people saying "Doctor", the music, the whole presentation. Bleh.

My only complaint is that he should have been KICKING the wall, not punching it. You've got boots on, man!
Maybe I'll break my re-watch and watch that one again before bed.

Not warranting a thread, but this survey is worth taking for anyone wanting to contribute to a bit of research: Nothing in-depth or controversial being sought. Took me about 2 minutes of my time.

Catching up on the Virtual Big Finish Day VOD (thank you, folks!) and reading The Curse of the Daemons brought me back to The Daemons. I'm appreciating -- for the first time truly appreciating, I think -- the ingenuity of the Doctor frightening away Bok by shouting the Venusian equivalent of something like " Ring-a-ring o' roses! A pocket full of posies! Ah-tissue! Ah-tissue! We all fall down!"

I took it. It was fun. I didn't answer a few of them cause I didn't care for either answer.

Hell Bent Just to preface before I go into what I think, I know that I have very unusual opinions on this episode, that’s just me though and I’m sticking by my opinions 🤷🏻♀️😉 It’s perfectly fine if you disagree with me, these are just my personal opinions😉
So I rewatched Hell Bent and.... I enjoyed it even more than I did the last time. Seriously I think the main reason people in general hate this episode is because they don’t like 12 and Clara together and just wanted a big Gallifrey epic. I think think it’s a beautifully heartbreaking episode with compelling interpersonal drama. I’m glad it’s all about 12 and Clara’s relationship, if it had just been about Gallifrey I think it would be boring, far less interesting and far less memorable. Of course 12 is going to go to such extremes to save her, he was tortured for billions of years and she’s his sole mate. She died for him multiple times to save him from the great intelligence and got him his current life. They are deeply bonded and as close to an equal to him as a human can get , as she said in Deep Breath, she can “flirt with a mountain range.” Like Missy said “He’d go to Hell for her”. There are a few things I still take issue with I’m on the fence if I think it was necessary for 12 to the general. I know it goes against his code of honor but that’s the point, 12 has been pushed to extremes for the woman he loves. 12 and Clara have become the hybrid. The other thing that kind of bothers me is that Me gets to be Clara’s companion, I am not sure she deserves to but can see why 12 did it. I absolutely love 12 and Clara’s wrap around segment it feels like a true love story ( yes I said it). There’s only one thing that 12 and Clara could have said to each other in the Cloisters😉 The ending of this episode really breaks my heart, Clara is nearly immortal and her 12 can’t stay together 😢 In conclusion, I think Hell Bent is a beautiful and heartbreaking episode and I am not changing my mind😢😊😉
Side note: Like the Great Curator had 4’s face, I head cannon that there is a far future incarnation with 12’s face that spent Clara’s last years with her before she had to return to her death, and they had more adventures with each other😊😢💙💙

On Friday I watched part 2 of 'Timelash'. Guilty pleasure, definitely a guilty pleasure...
Last night I started 'Revelation Of The Daleks' (my second 'Classic' story), which I'll be finishing before bed this evening.

Must be the Sapphire and Steel in me. Great thing is I can see Jon delivering it with just as much gravitas as his Venusian lullaby.

Deep Breath. I dislike Clara for much of her run with 12, however I think this episode is one of her greatest. The scene of her getting trapped in the villain's lair is fantastic. It's a pretty good regeneration episode, except for the unnecessary giant T-Rex. Not as good as The Eleventh Hour, but a fun hour and a half.
