Nine and a new companion. A recast Harry Sullivan. More Fitz Kriener (maybe with Compassion). We definitely need more Fitz.

Nine and someone else would make his healing be both the result of Rose AND something inherent in the Doctor, rather than "the Doctor got over his grief because Rose is so special". I hadn't looked at things like that...I'm no great fan of the all important Rose from series 2, and with 9 having so few televised stories it would probably be better for hypothetical audio stories to branch out into completely new territory...

An eightbDoctor Boxset where he encounters something, some villain, at four points in his life - young and hopeful with Charley or Lucie, a bit more jaded with Fitz and Compassion, amnesiac and finally on the run from the War.

But it would also spoil the whole 'the first face this face saw' logic established by the 11th Doctor in The Power of Three when talking to Amy Pond.

Rose is the first face Tenny saw, so he "imprinted" on her.

Eh...I don't like the idea of tying 9 down just with one companion/always with Rose all the time, BF have managed to give every other Doctor lots of gaps and the comics, books etc also make it very clear that we only see a very small proportion of the Doctor's live onscreen, I for one have never liked the idea that 'Rose' was set immediately after the Doctor has regenerated (and neither does RTD...).

Grace isn't the first face eight saw, that was the mortuary attendant, whose New Year's Eve costume eight stole.

I've always thought the easiest way to have ninth Doctor, non-Rose stories is to start the story with him on the phone to her "yes mum, I'll even brush my teeth when I go to bed. I'm a big boy Rose, Im nearly a thousand, I can look after meself for a few days while you take care of your mum". voila, it's actually happy nine, but without Rose.

Who else was "seared" like that? Polly, Lethbridge-Stewart (or some random nurse?), Sarah-Jane, Nyssa (although if it was Tegan that'd explain a lot), Peri, the Rani dressed as Mel, some dude, Who Knpe for nine, the Sainted Rose for ten, Amy for eleven and Clara for twelve.

He would need to be subject to a recast, though.

Jack will show up in Counter Measures all charm and sixties TV-era innuendos.

Why? if BF can schedule McGann, Davison, Hurt, Barrowman and Kingston (at least two of whom live outside of the U.K.) they can schedule another hard working actor.

For some reason, I believed that Travis Oliver had played the roles of both Chris and Fitz! Not sure how I came to that conclusion. (Although, I don't know what Matt di Angelo is involved in)

Grace isn't the first face eight saw, that was the mortuary attendant, whose New Year's Eve costume eight stole. No, that mortuary attendant wore a Nixon mask. Eight stole the costume from that guy's friend. The guy who fainted didn't even know who Wild Bill Hickock was when he was talking to his friend.

But it would also spoil the whole 'the first face this face saw' logic established by the 11th Doctor in The Power of Three when talking to Amy Pond. How? Rose is the first face Tenny saw, so he "imprinted" on her. And also the first the 9th Doctor saw, which is why he basically 'kissed' her to transfer the time vortex energy from her system into his. I know it's more symbolic but the point still stands.
