Sorry for the clickbaity way I wrote the title, but i was wondering why have BF decided to stop the Virgin Novel Adaptions after the Mysterious 3-Disc one in Decemeber?
Is it because sales were lower than expected on them? or Because they couldnt get the rights from the Authors to do the ones they wanted?

Maybe they're going onto new series book adaptations?

Have they decided to stop them? Or do we just not have any word on releases after that?

I dont know. @davygallagher did say on one occasion that they were stopping them after the epic one in December.
sadly i doubt that they'd do any adapts of the NSA books, since they are quite recent in regards to the others and they do have audio readings anyway

in the podcast nick said no plans for any more but would not rule it out, but will be after the final release of the current batch is out.

They might do Engines of War first to test the waters.

I think they will wait until December to formally announce any more if they decide to go on.

(Also, it sounds like a lot of work to adapt a book... it may even be cheaper just to make something up afresh).

I never thought we'd get the likes of Iris and Graceless coming back so I don't think much is 100% "dead" when it comes to BF. Of course we'll never get all the novels done. Some are not deserving, some wouldn't work on audio and some would not be allowed to happen due to rights and content. And there are just too many!

As of this weeks Podcast they're sill undecided.
Personally though I enjoy them they're more niche than other ranges, which BF try to adapt next is a lottery based on what the BBC want to do an audio reading of, and the original author's personal feeling about the prospect and there's only a couple more I'd like to hear anyway.

Is that July's issue? It'll be dated August but it should be released the last Thursday of June in DWM keep the same publishing pattern.

I would expect that BF would be all over another set of adaptations if they were selling very strongly, if they have OK sales, then they will just have to find room and justification for why they should be done when they have loads of other content they can do, if the sales are poor, then they'll stop because other things are more fruitful.
My expectation is that more will come with time. The past is full of things BF would "not do" which later happened, it's not so much that they changed their minds, but that opportunity has to exist in a context where it doesn't knock other things out of line.

I think it's most likely that Big Finish want to refocus their energies on the revival releases for now. I do remember it mentionced on the podcast back in 2014 that preorder sales for Gareth Roberts Presents were VERY strong.
I'm sure we'll see further Novel Adapations down the line, at some point, although I'd imagine they might want to make them more approchable to new listeners coming on board with the revival releases (Deciet isn't that well-regarded, so maybe we'll see Ace return in an adapation of Lucifer Rising?).

I mean, I'd be fine if they focus on new releases instead of adaptations. But I'd be kind of surprised if they cast it aside forever.

It could be there are no definite plans in place, so there's nothing concrete to hint at or announce. Things are often announced after it's certain that's what we'll get.
