I think that is BF's best Master story, in fact I'm sure of it. The Master isn't averse to putting on hold his maniacal plans in order for a really good gloat. In this story, The Master occasionally puts on hold his gloating to go about his plans. The writing takes full advantage of its truly first rate cast, who in turn revel in the witty, complex, almost pastiche writing - and I mean that as a compliment. This is a celebration of The Master in all his machiavellian guises and personalities, and it really is a joy from beginning to end. Wonderful

Geoffrey Beevers and Alex MacQueen present a masterclass (pun completely intended) in acting.
EDIT: Are the any other possible story titles that are phrases or terms with the word Master in them? Masterclass was the only one I could come up with. Tell a lie, there's Master Key (which is a fitting term to describe the Master's role in this story, he's the one to unlock the Anomaly Cage).

Finally finished this today. Beevers & MacQueen had such devilish chemistry. More of them together please! Now I'm spoiled.
I won't lie though I wasn't always sure which Master was which Master at times so this definitely deserves a re-listen. I am sure there was a lot I missed. But overall this was a stupendously enjoyable listen.
Also I think 7 was the perfect Doctor to take on two Masters. Spoiling their plan behind the scenes. It's just so 7.

Listened to the first episode of The Two Masters last night, and loved it. LOVED it.
Beevers is again on top form, showing us the casually evil side of the Master. Although I think Alex McQueen gets the better line for his short appearance. "I am the Master. . . You know the rest." That's a classic line.
I'm liking the new Companion too, and can't wait to see what happens.
McCoy's performance in this audio adventure feels more youthful and energetic than I've heard in a long time. I could almost hear his facial expressions while listening to the audio.
I also think that, of the three stories in this Master trilogy, The Two Masters has the best writing. Not that I'm biased at all by the fact that it's John Dorney, or that getting two stories written by him released for my birthday wasn't exciting enough. It really is written extremely well.
And You Will Obey Me lacked immediacy by virtue of the story's structure. We kept jumping in and out of flashbacks, and it gave the whole story a disjointed and narrated feel that was hard to follow at times.
In Vampire of the Mind, Justin Richards gave us a more pedestrian structure. Unfortunately half the story is the arrival of the Doctor and travel to the point of action. Despite fine performances and good character focus, no threat or point of interest is offered until rather late in the story.
The Two Masters does a much better job, providing a tantalizing opening scene (not further explained at all in episode 1, yet it piques interest). And we are then plunged straight into the action. Yes, there's running (so much running), but only to get back to the TARDIS to escape certain doom as established early in the episode. And with the end of the first episode comes the end of the first set location, and we are left wondering where episode two will occur, how will the Doctor and the Master get along, will the Master kill the new companion, what is McQueen's Master up to, what is causing the disappearance of time itself (we're sure it's the McQueen Master is involved, but still), and a host of other interesting questions that were all raised by virtue of the story itself.

The Two Masters...now this is the stuff! Top notch storytelling all the way around. And while I love the smooth tones of Beevers' Master, I would pay good money for a monthly series featuring the MacQueen incarnation. His version may be bugs@*t crazy but he has style and is hysterical. And totally evil. It's a great combination. MacQueen has totally become "my" Master.

I listened to Episode 2 last night.
Not one, but TWO shocking surprises from Mr. Dorney in the same episode.
The one halfway through actually made me jump up in surprise, which is quite a feat in itself, as I was lying down on the bed at the time.
While I applaud the writing and performances, I feel a deep loss at the same time.

Wow, that needed concentration.
Loved it. There were several moments when I was like "WTF is going on?" But that always resolved itself.
Not a story for someone still getting used to time travel stories, well, not until they've got their heads around time travel in the Who universe. I wonder if the actors had any idea what was going off.
Brilliant, complex and engaging.

Is it me but the extras I have downloaded are "clicky" and "poppy" digitally. I have put this through audacity to clear up, but wondered if anyone else was having the same issue. I have downloaded them a couple of times now on different platforms but still the same.

I have downloaded them a couple of times now on different platforms but still the same. There's a couple of what I call "mic muffles" where someone speaks either too close to or just off mic so their speech sounds muffled, what's slightly more distracting for me is that the background music seems to contain the Speaking clock beeps in it.

oh dear.....I know I am on my own but I really didn't like this.
just too much of a good thing for me. The interplay between the two masters just fell flat and 7th doc was side-lined to the point where It actually annoyed me. It wasn't terrible just not for me.
No more crossovers for now...please
in fact I haven't really taken to any of this masters trilogy I think the 5th doc stories spoilt me.

Now, for all you old gang here, IMAGINE what Magnus would have made of that story? Especially with the (Finally!) erasure/overwrite of Legacy of the Daleks? And the definite evidence that the Beever/Pratt Master isn't just a burned Delgado but his own incarnation? ROFLAO

He wouldn't have like that.

And the definite evidence that the Beever/Pratt Master isn't just a burned Delgado but his own incarnation? This one definitely deserves a re-listen (or two or three). REMINDER: You shouldn't be reading this thread if you want to avoid SPOILERS! It is the ultimate irony that the Beevers Master suffered his disfiguring burns at the hands of his future self. And the Master's descriptions of other incarnations of himself and the Doctor are priceless: "The Worm" "Mr. Velveteens" "the drippy blonde who dresses like no cricketer ever" And we get one of the most touching endings ever written for a 7th Doctor story. Sylvester must have loved that.

No, but he's not doing a Tim Treloar and emulating the other version, he's using his own voice and BF are particular about casting/recasting so that's not the Delgado version. Besides why would another version between Delgado and Pratt/Beevers be an issue when we also have Macqueen?
