So is the resemblance between the Cult of the Heretic and a certain other faction of paradoxical followers of a renegade Time Lord sheer coincidence or is this a reverse of the "Great Houses" situation? I know my head canon has them a splinter group, since they seem to line up so well. I don't think I've read any FP books (though I've got a few). Alien Bodies a while back, like a decade or so. So I'm going coincidence.

It's easy to think that their race found one of the many gene caches left by the Faction on comparatively primitive worlds and it contaminated their local culture.

All I liked to say if we could vote for a story each year this 1 would get my vote and my fav lines are {Spoiler} DOCTOR: Gosh, this is all needlessly complicated, isn’t it?
NEW MASTER: In that incarnation, you can talk. - Oh, of course! That’s where I put it.

I just listened to this over the weekend. Twice! Because I had a hard time keeping track of which Master was which, especially when it was revealed that they'd actually switched bodies. Darned if I know how John dorney kept it all straight. I read all nine pages of this thread, including everyone's conjectures about the appropriate order of the timeline and I'm still confused. Fantastic story.

Reading this thread has prompted me to listen to this one again, and I'm glad I did. A very clever, twisted story that benefited from another airing for me. I was surprised that I had forgotten how little Sylvester was in it (by that, I mean he wasn't in it as much as I remembered, not that Sylvester is little). That, and the fate of Jemima! But it is the bi-play between the two Masters that provides the highlight, beautifully, hilariously written and perfectly played by Alex McQueen and Geoffrey Beevers. With James Dreyfuss providing another brilliant incarnation, I am wondering if we might ever get to enjoy a Three Masters story?

I think I've listened to the set of episodes ending with that one at least three times now, but roughly half-way through the The Two Masters, I put my head in my hands and chastise myself for not making a diagram. I think I might just do that the next time through.

Did you see the story synopsis I posted on page 3? notthebigfinishforum.freeforums.net/post/38469There is a funny bit in The Shadow Heart, where two snailers (scavengers based in a giant space snail) listen to the Doctor's plan. Talbar asks Hordal if he understood what was being said, to which Hordal utters it makes perfect sense. Talbar asks Hordal to draw her a diagram. That's another John, Johnny Morris.

Actually, this thread being bumped makes me want to re-listen to this trilogy in the chronological order I posted earlier in this thread: If you wanted to know the exact order of a chronological re-watch/re-listen, it would be something like this: (...) Frontier in Space The Two Masters (Part 3, Track 4-6 & Part 4, Track 2) Vampire of the Mind The Two Masters (Part 2 & Part 3, Track 7-9 & Part 4, Track 4-9) The Deadly Assassin (...) UNIT: Dominion [this is the only Macqueen story that is 100% before The Two Masters, but on a whim, I'd say all the Dark Eyes appearances are as well]The Two Masters (Part 1, Track 1 & Part 3, Track 2-6) ...And You Will Obey Me The Two Masters (Part 1 & Part 2 & Part 3, Track 7-9 & Part 4, Track 4-9) Utopia (...) I mean, I'd neeeeever recommend listening to these that way the first time, but given that all the twists are spoiled already, it might be interesting to hear them in this order...

Wow.
Such a lengthy and densely plotted story, yet it zips along as such a fast pace. Everything from the trilogy comes together so well and it feels like a true epic. The interaction between the Two Masters are fantastic, with plenty of humour too. The interactions between the Doctor and the Masters are great also. In fact, it’s easier to say all three leads are on blistering form! Great soundtrack and direction too.
There’s lots to process, especially in terms of timelines and continuity, but it’s all done so well and with meaning that it doesn’t feel unnecessary whatsoever.
It’s simply, excuse the pun, masterful.

Am I right in thinking that this is the most recent release for the pre-TV Movie 7th Doctor?

Warlock's Cross was the very reason I asked, so that's brilliant. Perfect excuse to give this one another whirl 👍

That’s one thing I forgot to mention in my post. I mentioned in my comments about And You Will Obey Me that I love the solo Fifth Doctor. I love the solo pre-TV Movie Seventh Doctor too. We don’t get a great deal of releases set during this time, but I appreciate them when we do, and The Two Masters was a very fine addition indeed.

Am I right in thinking that this is the most recent release for the pre-TV Movie 7th Doctor? One of the more recent Subscriber Short Trips (The Night Before Christmas) had a solo Seven but I haven't heard it so I can't talk about where it fits exactly.
