"Mirai" Second time seeing it. I enjoyed it a lot more this time now that I knew what to expect. To my surprise, I actually got super emotional at the end. Like really sudden out of nowhere.

Cloverfield right now, never seen it before. I gotta say some of the shots of devastation in lower Manhattan, people fleeing as crowds up the streets in fear, ash hanging in the air - I'm not even a New Yorker, and that made me really uncomfortable, felt very distasteful. Up to the bit with the little skitter things in the subway tunnel as I type this.

I enjoyed all three of the Riddick movies! Well, four, if you count the animated thing.

Life of Brian - Brilliant movie all the way through, but Pilate and his fwiend in Wome really do overshadow everything else by being so hilarious.

One of my favorite Hammer Horrors Captain Kronos-Vampire Hunter......thrice! One time through for the movie and twice for the two commentaries. A film truly ahead of its time. A swashbuckling western/vampire movie. Caroline Munro remains my favorite childhood crush. Such a beauty. There really should have been more of these.

Up to the bit with the little skitter things in the subway tunnel as I type this. Ended up enjoying it right through, uncomfortable bits and all. I like movies that use actors I've never seen before, it really helps with immersion. And it really used the 'found footage' thing to great effect (despite not really having an ending). Tonight I watched the 'sequel' 10 Cloverfield Lane. Really good stuff, great psychological thriller. John Goodman doesn't get enough praise, he's a hell of a versatile actor and can be scary as f when he wants. I'm not sure the alien/Cloverfield tie-in was strictly necessary. It didn't take away from the film, but I think the whole isolation fear of the bunker and not knowing how much truth Howard was telling was strong enough on its own without doing the tie-in.

I've a feeling that Brian Clemens was nursing Kronos as an idea for a long while. There's an episode of The Avengers, "They Keep Killing Steed", which co-stars Ian Ogilvy. He seems to be playing a role not entirely unlike Kronos, opposite Tara King. A few of that era's stories feel like trial runs for Hammer actually, now that I think about it... "Pandora", yes. "Fog" was a bit surreal because it begins and ends in gaslit Victoriana with no explanation for how the characters got there. Tracked down a copy of Horror Express with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. The ice-man cometh! And with him bringeth death-th. A solid Holmes-style body horror story with a surprising guest appearance (after a fashion) of Roger Delgado who dubs one of the characters. Telly Savallas's half-drunk Captain is a riot, it's a pity he only turns up in the final act or thereabouts. I've been having something of a binge at the moment. The House that Dripped Blood was a few days ago. Up next is Warlords of Atlantis.

The Mummy’s Shroud and Plague of the Zombies are on tap over the next couple of days and my copy of The Curse of the Werewolf has shipped, so that could be here by the weekend. Shout/Scream Factory is doing great work with the Hammer catalogue.

The House that Dripped Blood was a few days ago. Up next is Warlords of Atlantis. Did you get the Arrow bluray of Horror Express? After it being on a million and one copyright free DVDs it's amazing to see it fully restored, looking great and with a shedload of extras. I'm not a major fan of House That Dripped Blood, it's one of the few Amicus portmanteaus with no true standout story, but it is one of the most fun eps of the Hammer House Of Podcasts (they do Amicus and non-Hammers for Patreon for only $1 a month) - Paul Cornell and L.S. Myles - both of many a Who story fame - have a ball with it. Recommended.

Along with The Reptile, it's one of the best one-two combos they ever put out.
