It was a little messy pacing wise but I think it should at least get a sequel if not moreš¤š If itās any consolation, I think a sequel is at least being planned. I won't be watching, but it is based on a series of YA books so maybe a sequel. But this is Netflix who never really show commitment to their shows.

She was great. Deserved a better movie, it felt like a TV show condensed into a film. It was a little messy pacing wise but I think it should at least get a sequel if not moreš¤š I could go either way on that. I enjoyed the movie, but I'm also generally of the opinion that not everything needs to be a series/franchise. This movie was fun, and that's enough for me.

I also saw 'Enola Holmes' (I think on Wednesday when it came out?) and, whilst I'm not going to say it's been a favourite of the ones I've seen recently, I did find it fairly fun (the fact that it starred Burn Gorman and 'Aunt Petunia' probably helped). If the sequel gets adapted I'll be happy. If not? Eh (shrugs), I enjoyed the one we have...
Today I've watched 'X: The Man With X-Ray Eyes', which I enjoyed more than I thought I would (it could have maybe done with maybe being a little bit more 'fleshed out' in places, but hey -) and, at the moment, I'm wrapping up 'Yes, God, Yes' a weirdly sweet 'coming of age' film...
Today marks six months of lockdown & when I started counting what films I've watched. 'Yes, God, Yes' tonight marks number 360. 360 in the span of six-months (apparently averaging about 1.96 films a day)... Jesus H!

Beetlejuice - A perfect Halloween movie. With Danny Elfman's bouncy score, it has the feeling of a rickety carnival ride. Lydia's a cool and spooky kid, Beetlejuice is endearingly sleazy. And of course, both of the Harry Belafonte numbers are wonderful.
I love Tim Burton's unique take on the afterlife. I know that his visual sense is the subject of mockery these days, but I like it. It's demented Dr Seuss. Nobody can do that aesthetic like he can. As with Edward Scissorhands, there's a sweetness underlying the goth that often goes without credit.
The new 4K disc is absolutely gorgeous, by the way. The colors are so vivid. I've never seen the Maitlands' car look so damn yellow. Amazing what they can do these days.

Mars Attacks, batsh.t bonkers but entertaining sci-fi nonsense, blimey one of a few Tim Burton movies not to feature Johnny Depp unless he cameos as a martian.

Itās a beautiful pastiche of disaster films and it doesnāt hurt to remember that it came out within weeks of Independence Day, with both films updating 50s invasion movies to a modern audience. I watched it with my son a few months back and he remembered it being a thoroughly baffling film as a child (Not surprisingly) but as a much more coherent and enjoyable experience as an adult.

The Hills Have Eyes - 1977 version via The Last Drive-In. This movie is pretty much a rehash of the Texas Chainsaw formula but not as good. Our family of victims are far more unlikable and stupid this time around. And they're out in the middle of nowhere on even more dubious pretenses than in Chainsaw. The dog is the most competent character in the entire film. Also, it has that stupid abrupt sort of non-ending that was in vogue during the 70s. I guess back then they thought it was more artistic and bleak not to have a proper conclusion.
There are a few effective sequences, including a fairly clever Home Alone trap near the end, but overall it's definitely not Wes Craven's finest hour. Give it a miss.

Angry Birds (2015)
Actually not half bad. For a game based on a once popular mobile app, itās far better than it has any right to be.

Red Shoes & The Seven Dwarfs - You can see where the advertising-related controversy came from. Um, maybe not a favourite film of the ones I've seen recently, but sweet, that was sweet...
Burying Yasmeen - At 73minutes it's definitely on the shorter side (falling just shy of the AFI's 'minimum' feature-length), but this was certainly better than I was expecting! (Take a drink every time I've found a film 'weirdly sweet' over the past week...)
Ana Maria In Novela Land - No, I'm not running out of films to watch, whatever gave you that idea?... (Like 'Yasmeen' yesterday, I enjoyed it more than I thought it would. Not 'top tier' level, but I liked it fine).
Happy Halloween Scooby Doo! - Guest-starring The Scarecrow, from Batman's Rogues Gallery. Like you do...

Today I've been watching two of the three 'Cats & Dogs' films (yes, I am five...). I had considered watching the second one as well (as they're all just under 90minutes), but I couldn't find a copy...
The first one I saw when it came out when I was 8, and can remember enjoying it fine, but not so much this time (ok, it was... Ok? 'Nothing to write home about, but then I am now out of the target demographic).
'At the moment I'm watching the third (I'm about half-an-hour in) and am enjoying it ok enough. "I've seen better, I've seen worse. It's... Alright."

Today I made my way through the 'Twilight' films for the first time, because I'm bored and I apparently hate myself... You know what though? Ok, they were ok. I don't know if I'd ever be in a rush to see any of them again, but, well, there are worse ways to spend a quiet Thursday...
Twilight - Alright, that was... Actually alright! Whilst I'm not going to say that it's the greatest film I have ever seen, I think I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
New Moon - That was alright, I guess? (Shrugs) 'Not the greatest film in the world, but the 2hours went by quickly enough.
Eclipse - Well, that was certainly... 124minutes. I've seen better finale build-ups, I've seen worse finale build-ups. It exists, 'Eclipse' exists...
'Breaking Dawn' part 1 - If you were to condense that down to, say, half the time, you'd loose pretty much nothing...
'BD' part 2 - Not every series finale needs to be an 'Avengers Endgame' level epic, sometimes all you need is something that's kinda sweet in places. My only real 'complaint' about it (apart from "the battle that never was") is that it didn't really need to be a two-part film (totalling just under 4hrs)... With some major condensing of part 1 & some trims to part 2, yeah, it probably would have been fine enough at, say, 2hrs 40-odd...
Anyway, it's quarter-past one in the morning, permission to go to bed?

Nightmare Before Christmas As it is the first of October I thought I would rewatch one of my absolute favorite Halloween (and Christmas) movies! This movie just makes me so happy every time I watch it( which I have been doing every year since I was about 4 years old)! Everything about it is just perfect from the characters to the story to the songs and visuals! Henry Sellick, Danny Elfman and Tim Burton and everyone else involved did an amazing job. Speaking of the songs once they get in my head they never leave! Does anyone else think that the creatures in Halloween Town are cuter than the Christmas elves? They all just have so much personality!
Side note: Jack Skellington was one of my first crushes on a fictional character growing up š„°š .....umm, Iām not sure what that says about meš³š¤

The last few days: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Today: The Phantom of the Opera (1925) - The original Lon Chaney classic. The restoration they've done on this film is incredible.

Anyway, it's quarter-past one in the morning, permission to go to bed? I think the first movie is pretty good but you get diminishing returns from the rest of the series although they are all quite watchable. I agree about BD 1 & 2: they could easily have been one movie but it was a thing at the time for literary adaptations to stretch the final volume into two movies. interestingly, I canāt bear the books but donāt mind the movies. The same can be said for the Fifty Shades movies and books, the films of which are infinitely better than the source material. (On the original BF Forum, someone posted a thread for guilty pleasure movies and when I mentioned Twilight they proceeded to give me a thrashing for enjoying such a terrible, ideologically unsound movie. It escalated when I pointed out the purpose of the thread. I do believe the posterās username may have almost rhymed with Bagpuss.)

Cutthroat Island, why this film was given such bad reviews amazes me because i found it to be a fun fast paced action packed adventure.
Trust me there's a lot of bad movie's out there this ain't one of them.
