Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
Jumanji really shouldn’t work as a franchise but for some reason it really does.

The Naked Gun this morning, still craving harmless silliness. Been a long time since I'd watched it. Still dumb, still entertaining.
Boyz n the Hood this evening. Bit of a hard watch at times. Very good movie.

Ivanhoe Was a fun watch, but i couldnt help but darkly chuckle at part of the ending. Just because of the attitude of Liz Taylor's Character

Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings.
Is it wrong to be rooting for the cannibals? I've never known such a cretinous gang of 'teens'.

My favourite bits were (and I'll put these in spoilers) ...
{Spoiler} Four hyperactive teens inadvertently stabbing their friend to death.
One poor lass being hoisted up by barbed wire round her neck. So what does her boyfriend do? Grab her ankles and try to pull her back down!

I've seen some reviews of the reboot and it actually doesn't look too bad! We shall see ... Is the Wrong Turn series any good? I’ve heard extremely good things about the first film and I’ve been meaning to give them a look somewhere down the line. Right then. My view is this: if you are in the mood - and you have to be in the mood - they are great fun. There's always time to watch a bunch of hapless arrogant - and very dumb - teens being casually dismembered by a bunch of inbreeds! The first film is the only one in which our heroes are invested with any kind of character or likeability. For the rest of the series, we are asked to side with the kind of people you would cross the road to avoid; but as I say, they are entertaining if you are in the right mindset. The last two follow a genuinely disturbing path that goes beyond 'mere' slasher stories.
As for the reboot, I've heard that it puts a rather different spin on things, especially the cannibals, and that it is the best looking production of them all so far.
I'd say - give them a go, in order, and see what you think.

Hunted. A woman on the run in the woods from serial killers, as boring as it sounds & a film that attempts to be saying a lot more than it thinks it is with some arthouse pretentions.

Blithe Spirit .yet another unnecessary remake.......
Perfectly fine, but Judy Dench is just too old to play madam Arcati And the whole thing lacks the charm of the 1945 version
But a harmless distraction
Flora and Ulysses on Disney +........not for me but again harmless enough......

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
Thought I’d revisit this one after watching the sequel. I know there was a great deal of outrage regarding the announcement of this film but it’s surprising how much it works well.

The Elephant ManFor some reason I wasn't expecting this film to retain so much of Lynch's style. I knew the film was a little at odds with real events before I watched it, but it's honest in it's depiction of his struggles and emotions, all brilliantly depicted by John Hurt. The Hudsucker ProxyStrangely, I had actually already seen this one on day time TV without even realizing it was a Coen Brother's film. You can definitely feel Sam Raimi's influence. It's very fun and over the top. Appropriately, suitable for kids. Mulholland DriveAlright, here's what I figured before I go watching a bunch of theory videos. {Spoiler} Like Lost Highway (which this feels very akin to), much of the film isn't actually happening. The only real parts are after the black box is opened. Everything before is the guilt-ridden death thralls of Diane after taking a hit out on her, with her dream incorporating various aspects of real events.
Her ride to the party is now Camille's botched assassination attempt; so she never actually died. The director who stole her Rita away, isn't able to cast her in the film, and his professional and private life make a joke of him. The money and key, symbols of what Diane did, hidden away in the cupboard to be forgotten.
Diane rather than being a jaded second rate actress coaxing off the success of her friend, is now wide-eyed, and actually quite remarkable as Betty. Much better than her stilted lost puppy of a room-mate Rita. She only scarcely misses opportunities because fate conspires against her.
Then reality starts to set in. The recorded theatre sequence is either about how her voice-mail message still exists even through she's dead, or something about how actors who are put through immense stress in the industry often die before their time, but a piece of their essence remains; recorded, and the melancholy thereof.
They open the box, symbolizing the truth, which is why Betty actually had it all along, and why her fake persona disappears just before they open it. (Also, Black Box's being items that record events and are excavated after an accident/death.) The guy behind Winkie's either represents the ugly truth of what she did, and is perhaps the location where she arranged the hit, or he symbolizes the jealousy that drove her to do it. And her Aunt and Uncle, wholesome symbols, now come to taunt her, ultimately pushing Diane to take her own life.
The Cowboy is a little tricky. He forces the director's hand, so in a sense he's a rancher, making sure everything goes to plan, but cowboy's also symbolize a form of renegade justice, either linking to Diane's actions, or acting as a harbinger of her ultimate fate. He also says we should only see him one more time if we make the right decision. He shows up at the party, perhaps just further indicating that the scene is meant to come before everything else.

Strange Magic So I found a new guilty pleasure movie! It’s an animated jukebox musical loosely inspired by Midsummer Night’s Dream written by George Lucas (of all people)! The animation fluctuates between gorgeous and magical and far too deep into the uncanny valley to the point where it becomes unintentionally disturbing!
The songs are incredibly cheesy! There are several standouts though all done by my favorite characters in this movie, Marianne and the Bog King! I wish this movie was even more focused on their quirky beauty and the beast style romance! I especially love their flirty duel duet and their cover version of ElO’s “Strange Magic”!
It’s not really surprising the Bog King is one of my favorite characters he’s a tall slender grumpy, very awkward and seemingly intimidating and off putting Scottish goblin king with a secret heart of gold, has an adorkable side and rockstar singing voice( who else does that sound like 😉)! Marianne is equally as independent and badass! Unfortunately all the other side characters are either not nearly as interesting or ungodly obnoxious! But it was still worth it for Marianne and the Bog King’s romance!
Sidenote: Slightly embarrassed to say that I first became interested in watching this movie because several of Peter Capaldi fan blogs I sometimes look at, all have Strange Magic Human AUs where human Bog King is played by young Peter Capaldi 😳 I have to say I can definitely see it! 🤔😊
