Tropic Thunder I finally watched this movie! I remember when this movie first came out it was all anyone could talk about, like it was the be all end all of comedy movies. I wasn’t allowed to see it when it first came out because my parents (well my mom anyways) thought I wasn’t old enough yet. I guess I had thought thought this movie would be a lot funnier due to its reputation but I found it kind of overrated. It’s still an interesting satire of Hollywood at the time, I particularly thought the fake previews were well done, but it didn’t live up to expectations for me. Also even though I know it was a satire of bad misguided “inspirationally disadvantaged” movies, the “Simple Jack” subplot with the continued use of the r-word kind of made me cringe and brought back bad memories of me being called the r-word ( and worse) nearly every day at school by my classmates because of my learning disabilities. Other than that I generally enjoyed it for its satire of Hollywood, even if it didn’t make me laugh out loud as much as I thought. I think it didn’t help that I read about and heard so much about this movie when it first came out that hardly anything was a surprise for me.
Sidenote: Another part I did actually get a kick out of was the bit with the severed head, it was just ridiculous and disgusting enough to make me giggle!😄

Inspector Gadget (1999)
Matthew Broderick makes for an alright Inspector Gadget but this is definitely not as good as I remember. That or my seven year old self just had a poor taste in films.
Also, am I the only one who feels like had the Americans made their own big budget film version of Doctor Who around this period they definitely would have cast Rupert Everett as the Master?

This afternoon I watched 'Trading Places' and 'Coming To America'. Whilst I will, of course, say that the train scene in the former is very awkward nowadays, it's been nice seeing both of them again (I last saw them in 2018 on the big-screen at the British Film Institute in London a few years ago).
At the moment I'm reaching the end of 'Coming 2 America', which came out today. Well... That certainly exists!

City Hunter......one of the few Jackie Chan films i hadn't seen & i wish i hadn't it's atrocious farical nonsensical bafflegab.
Humour is silly & forced, fight scenes some good but the second Jackie vs Gary Daniel's fight where they change into Chun-Li & Ken totally jumped the shark.
I've seen such stupidity & fourth wall shenanigans in one movie, this film makes Streetfighter look Oscar worthy.

Hello everyone! I saw Richard Todd in the 1952 film 'The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men' on Disney+ recently. Richard Todd is very good as Robin Hood in that film. No acting lessons from Matthew Waterhouse were needed. Tim.

Coming 2 America The one good thing I can say about this movie is it is pretty to look at, other than that I can’t really think of anything I liked about it. All the humor was missing from this one and it felt weirdly sanitized and Disneyfied. Also Leslie Jones’s character completely lost my sympathy due to let’s just say similar reasons Wonder Woman did in Wonder Woman 1984. Prince Akeem didn’t seem as interesting a character as the first movie.

Sanshiro Sugata Part Two and The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail in the last couple days. I'm particularly fond of Tiger's Tail, even if it gets a little weird in the last ten minutes.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
Very much a guilty pleasure of mine. Considering the changes made to certain characters in this though one does wonder how they would have tried to adapt the second volume.
In any case, it’s definitely a concept that could be easily rebooted in the future although I’d imagine obtaining the rights to certain characters would be a nightmare.

The Time Machine (2002)
Remember liking this a lot when I was younger. Even if it does water down the complex societal evolution of the Morlocks and Eloi into the typical Good Vs Evil narrative.

The Midnight Sky : If they'd ignored the highly questionable and sometimes downright silly scientific aspects of the plot and focused instead on Clooney's role of a dying man regretting his life choices and seeking redemption as the world comes to an end it would have made a far better film. As it was it was just...okay. That being said, to my complete shame I didn't see the twist at the end having fallen for the red herring near the beginning of the film.. Iron Man : The other day I sat and worked how many of the twenty three Marvel movies I had actually seen in their entirety. Turns out I could count them on one hand. Actually...turns out I didn't need four fingers on that one hand....😳 So while I will never be able to reach melkur 's level or speed of movie watching, last night I made a start on rectifying that omission by starting with the only one I had seen. No idea what the rest of the UK might have been watching but the popcorn in this household was well and truly munched...🍿 One down, twenty two to go..

Tomorrow it'll be 700 since the end of last March Whilst I will admit that some of them have been 'background' watches (like with 'Carry On Loving' at the moment) and others I did skim... At the moment it averages at about two a day which, out of context, isn't (quite) so bad. ( EDIT - Most of them are less than 100minutes, so it makes it a little easier to 'speed through') Over the summer I also watched through the MCU myself, which I did enjoy well enough. (Despite having the DVD for quite a few years now, 'The Incredible Hulk' was first time viewing for me).

Proudly nerdy to say I have seen pretty much every comic book movie in the cinemas (even Catwoman and Elektra) over the last 20 years. And with all 30000 Marvel movies I still get "shirty" when I see people immediately get up to leave the cinemas the second the credits start rolling.. I actually yell out "you are going to miss another scene!" it's 50/50 on if they sit down. LOLZ

So, with my Prime membership, I'm kind of on a binge of low budget movies. Hey, free shipping and crap movies - win win! - The Da Vinci Treasure: one of the earlier Asylum movies (and I'm sure you can't guess what big phenomenon it was cashing in on) and booooy, is it rough.
- Road Wars: A decade later and much improved Asylum outing (primarily in that the sound quality is actually tolerable). Low rent Mad Max wannabe that has some decent spots, but an ending that tries way too hard to be more impactful than it really is.
- Precious Cargo: Bruce Willis time! If you're familiar with ralphthemoviemaker's videos, you know about the tackiness of cheap Willis. It's here too: the obvious body double, Willis being in maybe 5% of the film and not caring much, and the rest is subpar action and heisting. I swear the boat chase is like five shots repeated over and over.
- Tokarev: Now it's Nic Cage's turn. It's the best of the four (the best directed and it feels like it's telling an actual story), but it doesn't amount to much. It tries to have more pathos than your typical revenge movie, throwing in an end twist that is kind of neat but lacks build up, but it just leads to an unsatisfying ending that opens up other questions that only make the lead look worse.

Coming 2 America......ARRRRGGGGGHHHHH Awful shambolic piffle, not funny or slightly amusing.
Cosmic Sin, Bruce Willis churns out another lazy actioner who gives yet another bland monotone bored performance, far from the glory days of John McClaine.
Just retire Bruce you obviously fell out of love with your craft.

Well, today I hit film 700 of lockdown/the end of last March.
Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade - Whilst I'm not going to say that it's my favourite thing in the world (don't get me wrong, it's a great film, I enjoyed it, buuuut...), it was still nice to see it, and the previous two, again for the first time in quite a few years!
Carry On Henry - Maybe not the best, but it was a pleasant enough watch after dinner...
A Heartland Christmas - I've seen better festive films, I've seen worse. That was... Alright enough, I guess? (Shrugs)
