There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I absolutely adore the novel this is based on. The movie wasn’t very well-received on initial release and I’m almost too scared to watch it. It was very strange and disjointed movie. I feel like there may be a lot of deleted scenes that would make certain aspects make more sense. What was the book like? The book comes to about 800 pages and has dozens of characters so any adaptation to movie-length is going to lose some of that, especially when their stories are all linked so closely. But it’s wonderfully funny, touching, sad, exciting and heartbreaking. Mark Helprin, who wrote it, has a real talent for poetic language and for drawing wonderful characters in vivid settings. The New York of this novel is as much a character as any of the people in it. However, it’s the only book by Helprin that I’ve really enjoyed.

"Madman"- released in 1981. I remember this as a new release movie at the video shop (showing my age!).. It's beyond badly acted/edited/scripted/filmed etc.. Complete rip off of "Friday the 13th".

2 Horror Coms
Benny Loves You
(Not the long awaited Opharn 55 Spin off. A man's favorite toy from childhood comes to life and flies into a jealous rage when he begins dating a co-worker)
Deep Murder
(Imagine The Blair Witch Project not set in a Hunted forest but instead a Haunted Film Set)

The Stepford Wives (2004)
Tonally all over the place and the plot makes no sense towards the end. Are the Wives robots? Or merely brainwashed? I have no idea and somehow I think the writer didn’t know either.
Funnily enough, this was one film I used to watch quite a lot when I was younger but for the life of me I couldn’t tell you why.

Star Trek (2009)
It’s fun. And I appreciate them trying to do something different with the property even if I’m not quite sure it’s exactly in the spirit of the original series.

Star Trek (2009) It’s fun. And I appreciate them trying to do something different with the property even if I’m not quite sure it’s exactly in the spirit of the original series. I agree. However, I was really into the performances. Especially Karl Urban. I think he was fantastic and basically embodied the soul of McCoy.
But the others were quite good, too.
I have a lot of Trekkie friends who felt personally offended because of the destruction of Vulcan, and who were bemoaning the plot holes and deus ex machina devices, but I had a lot of fun watching this. Sadly, I did not like the sequels as much.

Chicken Run (2000)
One of Aardman’s finest. Although, I still stand by the view that it really doesn’t need a sequel.

Godzilla (2014)
Was ok in the beginning, but what the hell happened to the contrast in second half, I know that show less is often better in horror films but this was what the hell is going on was so dark
Promising start ending in utter crap......
3/10
Skull island
Was ok but bit too much shouting Sam Jackson and a bit of a missed opportunity but a fun couple of hours........
7/10

Before I go to Sleep (1998)
(Bit of an oddity a slow burn almost made for TV Drama Thiller but with a Hollywood sort of Cast.
A women [Nicole Kidman] wakes from an accident with total Amnesia but who will she trust to tell her about herself, Husband [Colin Firth] or Lover [Mark Strong]?

'Raya & The Last Dragon', 'Peter Rabbit 2' and 'Cruella' on the big-screen. Well, there are worse ways to have spent a Bank-Holiday Monday (especially as two of the three were for free)...
Raya - You know, going in I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did... 'Probably the closest to a 'full' gay Disney film we'll get.
Peter Rabbit 2 - I don't know if I really 'loved' it, but it was a pleasant-enough way of spending part of a Monday afternoon (the fact that the ticket was 'only' £5.99 probably helped)...
Cruella - Whilst I will say that it was maybe just a *little* bit too long (cough, the last twenty minutes before the credits, cough), I enjoyed that a whole lot more than I was expecting!

Sunshine (2007)
There was a lot of good in this movie. A very good ensemble cast (Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, Michelle Yeoh) and some good sci-fi thriller bits in there. Unfortunately there are some parts that just don't hold together, and the end doesn't work for me at all. Still, it was worth a watch. 7/10

Avengers: Age of Ultron
Continuing my trend of watching the MCU in the most bizarre possible order, caught this on iPlayer. Perfectly fine blockbuster which I will have forgotten 90% of by tomorrow.

Yesterday afternoon I watched Woman in Motion, the documentary about Nichelle Nichols and the role she played in running a diverse recruitment drive for NASA in the 70s. Quite good.

This evening I watched 'Bit', starring Supergirl's Nicole Maines. Whilst I'm not going to say that I strictly 'loved' it, it was an enjoyable enough way of spending ninety-something minutes on a Friday afternoon...

Finally watched the Chris Holmes documentary "Mean Man". A cautionary tale of what not to do when you decide to enter the rock business. Read your contracts/hire a quality lawyer and accountant.

Avengers Civil War. Still really like that one. Go team Tony! Plus, Daniel Brühl is such a great German export. I love his German movies (Good bye, Lenin!) but he also does a great villain for Marvel.
