Star Wars the Phantom Menace in 4K.
The movie looked absolutely fantastic in 4K, but the cgi is starting to look slightly dated, though given that this was released in the 90’s it’s easy to forgive
The fact that the sets are still mostly physical at this point definitely works in favour of the 4K release, and if revenge of the sigh looks half as good with it’s mostly green screen sets, I’ll definitely double dip on the 4K original trilogy.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
Not a very good sequel. Willie is a very poor follow-up to Marion, and some aspects of the film haven’t aged very well: while it’s great to see some acknowledgment of the damage the Brits did to India (this was less than two years after Gandhi swept the Oscars, though) the banquet scene undoes nearly all that. The set pieces don’t feel as natural as they did in Raiders and the backdrops/special effects aren’t as good. Ford is brilliant, though, and raise every scene he’s in just through force of personality alone.

Red Dwarf: The Promised Land (2020)
Even though it’s probably going to be a while before we hear anything from Red Dwarf in the coming years but I thought this made for a terrific finale.

Darkman All that Sam Raimi goodness. Everyone gives a memorable performance, especially Liam Neeson as the tragic hero.

DarkmanAll that Sam Raimi goodness. Everyone gives a memorable performance, especially Liam Neeson as the tragic hero. Always found it rather disappointing that Darkman as a character didn’t have more of a shelf life after this. There was a few direct to DVD sequels, a brief comic series and that’s that. You’d have thought considering his propensity for disguises they’d be more you could do with him.

I saw it on video as a new release. Was great.

Loved it. It was better than Joker.

The Bubble (2022)
God, I’d rather have watched Cliff Beasts. It doesn’t help that I strongly suspect this was all designed to be a vanity project for Judd Apatow’s daughter who I have to say is a dreadful actress.

Here take my money.

Today's been a day of sequels for me: The Bride Of Frankenstein - I enjoyed it ok, I'm glad to have seen it, but I don't know if I'm in a hurry to see it again... Dr Strange 2 - It isn't a stretch to say that I enjoyed it Downton Abbey 2 - Happy to have seen it, but I did doze of a bit towards the end (like 'The Lost City' a week or so ago, I was easily the youngest person in the audience by thirty or forty years)

Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Not being a fan of the titular character, I wasn't going in with high expectations but I really enjoyed it. I definitely loved the horror aspects of it. I know they most likely won't due to keeping the films for the whole family, but I'd love to see another MCU film that leans into horror.

I know they most likely won't due to keeping the films for the whole family, but I'd love to see another MCU film that leans into horror. Considering the movie served more as a sequel to Wandavision rather than the first Dr. Strange movie, it might help explain part of your enjoyment. I loved that once all the set-up was done it very much turned into a Sam Raimi with a huge budget movie. Always a good thing. The film is stuffed with some fantastic set pieces. I’ll definitely be going at least once more to take it all in on the big screen.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Went in expecting Spider-Man Sam Raimi and instead I got The Evil Dead Sam Raimi… which is great because I love The Evil Dead!
I had some issues here and there big and small, and there’s some things I’m even a little unsure about right now, but overall this was a great experience. I had some of the fun big spoilers ruined for me by Twitter, but the movie more than made up for that with its style and wonderful direction. There are moments I’m shocked they let Raimi get away with here - it really, REALLY pushes that PG-13 rating to its absolute limits. There’s no mistaking who directed this film, that’s for sure, and that’s been something the MCU has struggled with. Kudos to them.
It’s not my favorite multiverse film I’ve seen this year, but this was a whole lotta fun and a very nice change of pace for the MCU.
