"Deadpool & Wolverine" was great (it even had the exact opening idea that I personally would have chosen!), and nice to see a film that doesn't really appear to be part of a carefully-constructed building-up-to-anything {Spoiler}spare Wolverine and crying Thor not withstanding Only one person who I really wanted to show up didn't 1 - yes, I even watched that movie in preparation. 2 - surely that was the idea, and why bother with it if they couldn't do it properly? Also, {Spoiler}Welshpool is genius, although it's a joke most people round the world won't get

I don't know enough about the history of cinema to say I can fully back this statement, but don't they say Superheroes are just the modern western? In that they're morality tales wrapped up in a hero archetype. Some are good, some are great, and some are mediocre. The market is just saturated with them because that's what people go to see. Speaking of which: Deadpool & WolverineI think I got my hopes up a little too high regarding the quantity of cameos. Not to say it was disappointing (it defintely was not), but the focus stays on the leads even when things get nuts. Lots of laughs and crazy violent action, all set to an ecclectic soundtrack. And yes, it's so awesome, and surprisingly heartfelt to see Hugh in full-regalia. Only one person who I really wanted to show up didn't: Nicolas Cage as Ghost rider. I mean it's not like he wouldn't do it. And getting Danny Devito to play the short Wolverine would have been next to godhood. it's not really a surprise that he is not in it as this film is primarily a goodbye to the Fox Marvel films (XMen, Fantastic 4, Daredevil/Elektra, Deadpool*) and while they added in Blade (New Line Cinema) they did not include anyone from films by Lionsgate or Columbia. Columbia still have at least 2 Marvel films on the way making characters from their films even less likely (* they may or may not make more Deadpool films but the others will probably only appear again as reboots unrelated to the Fox films)

This is Spinal Tap A good laugh. They play it so straight. I imagine this is where a few things like Documentary Now! got their inspiration.

..continuing on Deadpool and Wolverine it's a shame they couldn't get Vinnie Jones to reprise his role..
one small joke many people won't notice is based on Deadpool's artist co-creator Rob Liefeld being notorious for his inability to draw feet

Puss in Boots- Last Wish Still a great movie, with a fantastic art style (paintings come to life) and great characters. Death is definitely the best.

Wife and I have nanna looking after Junior while we use our free tix we got for Xmas last year for Deadpool/Wolvy in a few hours time . I already know what happens however I am still hyped up. I can clearly still remember watching the Hulk 70's tv show on 1st run television, and the Spiderman "tv show/movies" in the late 70's/very early 80's. Along with the 60's Batman tv show and 60's/70's/80's assorted Marvel/DC animated tv shows There is 119 F bombs in the Marvel Universe to date. 1 for G.O.T.G. 3.. 118 for Deadpool/Wolvy HAHA

Taxi Driver It's such smooth film making, but man the story's a bummer.
The Four Marx Brothers: Duck Soup Pretty good. Some really memorable bits. They move crazy quick, and some jokes are a bit exhausting, but it's so dense that by law of averages I was laighing pretty consistently.

Trap (no way out) Just went to the cinema to watch the movie with a colleague. I went in without any knowledge, just knew it was about a serial killer. The movie has a 12 rating in Germany, so I did not expect a splatter movie. Well, it is a nice psychological thriller comedy with some great performances. SO. MUCH. Black humor. I thought the setting was amazing. The movie has a pretty small cast, and it is basically an intense intimate theatre play- playing out in a HUGE concert hall during a massive concert with thousands of people. This contrast was great. I also thought that Saleka's performace was pretty good, all the non-verbal interaction (especially facial expressions) between the two main leads was very well done. Alison Pill was also in this movie... but I already thought she was not the most convincing actress in Star Trek Picard- she also did not win me over, here. As per the age rating, there is no blood and gore, surprising for a movie about a serial killer. It really is all about the psychological threat playing out in the heads.
I have seen that the movie got average reviews- but at a guess, they did expect something more grand or gory. As I said, I liked it, and I also enjoyed the very dark humor.

Tonight's Disney stream is A Bug's Life An under-rated one I think. It is... Including by yours truly. Last night's viewing made me gain a new appreciation for it. It's still incredibly ironic that an allegorial movie about unions and why they're needed, wound up being the thing that destroyed unionized 2D animation in favor of non-unionized 3D animation however.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Well, this was obviously heavily influenced by Doctor Who. I had seen the movie back in the day, but then, I had no clue Doctor Who even existed. Back in the day, I thought is was a nice, entertaining movie, but it never ranked very high with me. I decided I will do a re-watch... some of it it cringe (the humor does not work the same today), and the part with Ghengis Khan has aged badly and comes across as very, VERY racist. Maybe we are lucky that the proposed future based on Bill and Ted got lost somewhere in the 90s.
Saving Grace. Since I did a lot of reading into medical cannabis (it is now partially legal in Germany), I decided I also do a re-watch of this. I have seen the movies a couple of times, and thought it was a nice, if a little over-the-top, cozy local comedy movie. It has charm and whit and some great characters. Now, that I know more about weed... I do not even know where to begin with all the mistakes (medical and horticulture wise) I found. Plus, I saw the boom mike in a couple of shots. It is still a fun movie, but maybe not the most realistic one.
In conclusion, it looks as if I was in a pretty critical mood during last night's movie watching.

Loads of Who and BF connections in the cast over the years. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_Martin

And it's so silly that even when it does mis-step, it doesn't feel too malicious. But the main thing I wanted to exposit is, it wasn't actually inspired by Doctor Who. Initally, they were going to time travel with a van, sort like a band would, gathering members. It makes sense given hoew many people they have to cram in there. But they changed it because they didn't want people to draw comparisons to Back to the Future which was still recent. They thought of a phone booth, because who the hell else would have done that? BTW, did you ever see the third one? It's not quite as funny as the first two, but it's a nice round-off to the trilogy.

I have to question whether it's all that good, because they don't seem to be able to distinguish episodes they've never seen before from ones that they've definitely already seen.

From Columbo to Heartbeat, Law & Order et al, they're comfort food TV.

True enough -- and I've nothing against that genre (in fact, in that thread I keep meaning to post in but haven't gotten around to yet, to the extent that I'm actually feeling pretty guilty about it, I've some similar media to talk about) -- but I've only watched a handful of episodes with them, and at least two or three of those involved the Doc's wife leaving him and taking their child with her, and I'm fairly confident they were all the same episode.

Might have to watch it, sadly I right now did not find a Streaming service where I could watch it without the German dubbing. I refuse to watch it dubbed. And the DVD collection is 120 Euro.
This will have to wait.
