2001: A Space Odyssey It's marvelous to think that they achieved these space visuals in the 60s. Every shot looks like it could be a painting. Though I have to admit, the second segment of the film was testing my patience a bit.
The best part of the film is definitely part 3 with HAL. Honestly, I had forgotten this was the HAL movie at this point, and I was surprised it was only about an hour; 2/5s of the runtime. I knew a lot of the bits just because it's been referenced so much (even Recess), but that didn't detract from the sequence one iota. I was surprised how bad I felt for him when he was begging for his life.
Once I'd stewed on it and decided what I made of it, I looked up some analysis, and had come to some fairly common conclusions, though I had drawn a blank on the meaning of the space baby.
I feel like this must be a favourite of Christopher Nolan, the way it bombards you with visuals and dense audioscapes. At first I wasn't sure if I ever wanted to watch it again, but now I feel I'll get the itch to check it out again.

SusperiaThe use of colour and lighting in thsi film is so striking. I liked it, but I gotta be honest, I wasn't expecting it to be so shlocky. At first I was like, 'oh the acting and editing is so weird and dreamy; how avantgarde'. But by the end I was like, 'oh no, this is just a flippin' hamm festival'. The directress sounds like a bad guy from Popeye.

Believe it or not, I just watched The Terminator for the first time. Talk about a classic time loop. I never watched it before because I thought it'd be kind of bloody and violent for my taste, and I was right, but the premise is interesting. I had caught an episode or two of The Sarah Connor Chronicles in the breakroom where I used to work, so that got me interested in seeing it eventually. I used Amazon credits to watch it and Terminator 2 is on Netflix till October 1, so guess I'll try to catch that before it's discontinued.

Terminator 1 is the greatest love story! I even told Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese) when I met him last year at a Comic-Con here LOLZ.
He travelled through time to meet the woman he fell in love with from a photograph.. and through talking to his military leader/son he hadn't created yet thanks to wibbly wobbly timey wimey isms!

Yup. Really wild. To be honest, I was pretty sure that was going to happen soon after she started running away from the terminator with Kyle Reese, when he started telling her stories of his time and of her son, so it wasn't a huge surprise.

A bit of movie magic now... Big Arnie is 100% Just under 6ft tall, camera angles to make him look taller. Michael Beihn (Kyle) is easily either my height or Just a bit taller than me and I am 6ft2.. In the movie he looks shorter.

It's a great story - a world where a central computer intelligence builds fighting machines to destroy and enslave humanity. And a guerilla fighter from the future comes back in time, seems to be a threat but turns out to be on the good side trying to prevent future horror. And becomes part of the loop of events.
{Spoiler} Yes, I've always loved 'The War Machines' and 'Day of the Daleks'.

OppenheimerTook me a few months but I've finally completed Barbenheimer. I was a little hesitant from the mixed comments I heard, but I really enjoyed it. It was unrelenting. And so dense. I checked the time twice and could swear I'd watched for twice as long. Funny that I was just saying 2001 gave be a Nolan vibe, and Barbie has that whole intro homage. Maybe we could consider them an an unlikely trilogy! Free GuyI wasn't sure if I'd like it but it was pretty damn good. Definitely worth a laugh.

If you get the chance I'd highly recommend the BBC Oppenheimer drama series made in the 1970s.
Your watch will not deceive you, it really is 7 hours long.

lol, well at least it's upfront about it.
Dirty Harry Took me a while to really get into it, but they do a great job of making the villain a total scumbag that you're routing for Calahan to get him. Though after all the spoofs I've seen of Clint's Renegade Cop archetype, I was hoping for it to be sillier than it actually turned out to be.

I started watching Silver Streak, an old 70s movie starring Gene Wilder. I'm needing lo leave off at about 30 or 45 minutes in... and I'm not sure whether or not I'll come back to finish it. Have any of y'all seen it? Is it worth persevering? I take it that it's supposed to be a comedy, but it hasn't been all that amusing so far, save for the scene where Wilder was tossed off the train. I can't tell that many of the other scenes were even intended to comedic or not, as they range in tone from being rather conventional to kinda uncomfortable, like the odd scene where Wilder starts fondling a cow's udders.

Beyond the Valley of the DollsI'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't whatever the hell this was. It osilated between so many tones, I never quite knew where I stood with it. Though I did start to enjoy it more at the half-way point. Maybe I'd like it more on a second watch now that I know what I'm in for. Dawn of the DeadThis was much more playful than I was expecting. While the gore and concumption scenes are grotesque, the zombies are quite goofy looking and ineffectual for the most part. (Until they aren't.) It's weirdly sweet and wholesome. And I was so happy with the Peter death fake-out. It gets you to love the characters so much, and I was hoping he at least would pull though. Well that's 20/20 now. I enjoyed most of them a lot, and even the ones I didn't were interesting.

"Double Confession" (1950) - William Hartnell (looking, but not all sounding, like the Doctor) plays a businessman who pretty much controls a seaside resort (it's implied he might be more of a gangster) with the assistance of sidekick Peter Lorre. In the middle of all the holidaymakers (some of whom recur through the film, giving an amusing picture of old-fashioned seaside holidays) is the husband of Hartnell's mistress, back after three years, and last night he visited her cottage and now she's dead.... Also features Ronald 'Sherlock Holmes' Howard, and Hartnell has one brief scene with one of his employees, an uncredited Peter 'The Monk' Butterworth.
