A first playthrough Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen.Plenty of audiobooks in the backlog...and as I was in the mood for some Douglas Adams...š Well..that was good fun. Completely mad and an awful lot was baked into the foundations of Life, the Universe and Everything.. but still good fun. Would have made a great full cast Lost Story adaptation I'm sure! Anyhow...back to the backlog and a very brief change of pace from the Fourth Doctor - a first playthrough of The Scarifyers : The Horror of Loch Ness. The Horror At Loch Ness was everything I expected it to be - goofy, silly and the scene with the two old ladies of Boleskine House serving up as many double entrendres as possible was just pure filth (š¤£š¤£š¤£). A hat tip to Bafflegab not only for the shameless nod to Back to the Future but for giving David Benson the opportunity once more to serve up a huge slice of ham with relish on top as Crowley. So with just The Thirteen Hallows and The King of Winter to go in the audio plays I'm edging closer to the narrated audiobooks - A Dinner Date with Death, An American Werewolf in Ludlow and The Temple of Kupannga. My question for those who have listened to them - are they any good?

The Wind in the Willows
The Alan Bennett dramatisation from 1994 which stars Richard Briars and Straxus himself, Nikolas Grace.

"Rowan", the adaptation of the pilot episode of the abortive Nelvana Doctor Who animated series. Definitely has the feel of a (slightly-disappointing) 1990s cartoon. Wasn't sure about Arthur Bostrom's portrayal of the Doctor - his slow, ponderous speech strikes me as quite right for the kind of early '90s misunderstanding of the Doctor as some posh olden-days type, but it doesn't come across as a viable concept.

Children of the Stones
Dramatised by A.K. Benedict and Guy Adams. As always, Bafflegab continues to be excellent when it comes to these reinventions of cult favourites.
The original serial is also something Iāve been fascinated about for sometime now, just a shame the price for the DVD is practically extortionate now.

Peter Pan
Dramatised by Paul Magrs. Thereās a lot to like in this one. The acting is excellent especially Rupert Everett and Adeel Akhtar as Captain Hook and Smee respectively. And it very much feels in the spirit of J.M. Barrie.
However it does have some new additions which Iām not sure needed. And Iād almost argue in their attempt to make certain aspects more palatable for modern sensibilities theyāve only gone and opened up a whole new can of worms.

Treasure Island
Dramatised by Marty Ross. Starring Catherine, Phillip Glenister and Owen Teale.
Owen Teale makes for an excellent Long John Silver and thankfully avoids falling into the trap of simply doing a Robert Newton impression.

Fantastic Mr Fox
An adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl story from I want to say around the mid ā80s. Starring Nigel Lambert and Eve Karpf.
Lambert is particularly excellent in this giving Mr Fox an almost swashbuckling vibe to him.

Fabius Bile: Clonelord read by John Banks. Loads of fun, Banks invests each (major) character with a degree of life and personality that even without the āFabius saidā¦ā narration you know who is who.

Iām on Vol 6 of the Sword Art Online audiobooks. I donāt know if there are any SAO fans here. Iām a big fan and while Iāve already read these volumes before, the narration is so darned good, weāll worth it.

I chanced an $1.99 Audible Daily Deal the other day on The Band of Moonlit Waters: Speroās Legacy, Book 1. It's nothing groundbreaking as far as sci-fi adventures go and it is predictable at times, but it's remarkably good in places too. An eight hour audiobook for ā¬2 is great VFM so I'm enjoying it for what it is.

Recently, a couple of fans produced a novel that continued the Blakes 7 story. It is set about 30 years after the events of Blake and tells of a new generation of rebels going up against the Federation. They have just released it as a full-cast audio. You can purchase it here: www.thedigitalpublishingcenter.com/109/vindictus/cartYou can listen to it on their YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/@vindictusaudiobook*Disclaimer: I am acting in this, but donāt let that put you off.

The first episode of the new series of "Ed Reardon" (for those who aren't familiar, imagine 'Mervyn Stone doesn't solve crimes' and you've got the general idea). Co-writer Andrew Nickolds passed away during the writing of this series {Spoiler} and the first episode reveals that Ed's constant companion Elgar the cat has died.

Second episode of The Haunter of the Dark. If this was on tv, it'd be gigantic.

Listened to the soundtrack of The Celestial Toymaker, as Iāve never experienced it before and suddenly it has a certain relevancy.
Itās just kinda there; the Doctor is mostly mute and taunted by an enigmatic entity played well by Michael Gough whilst Steven and Dodo play a game an episode against a colourful batch of characters. Itās nothing spectacular but it passes the time.

'The Horror of Loch Ness' is fabulous, one of my favourites. The Brigadier , you didn't mention 'The Gnomes of Death' which is sadly last, but definitely not least. Except perhaps in height... I've only heard the first two audiobooks yet (still saving the third) and yes they are good (first is better imo) and it goes without saying Terry Molloy is excellent.
