I have managed to crash the unzip at the ens of a download, but only by downloading multiple titles in quick succession. From running my memory manager alongside, it looks like the system is slow to delete the zip files. From 1.6GB, after two 300MB downloads and one 300MB failed downloads my system only had 700MB free, but a couple of minutes later it was back up over 1.1GB and repeating the third 300MB download was fine.

Does anyone have an LG phone to test with? So far, the only common thread between the 2 users that have the download issue is that they are using an LG G? phone.

I have the old Nexus 5 which is made by LG, but has Stock Android on it (5.1.1). Running build 62 and have no issues with downloading, either singly or multiples, small (less than 100mb) or large (700mb) files, cancelling and restarting. All appears to be working fine - I wonder if its something LG has added to the os? The only issue I have with this phone is it won't switch between cellular and wifi downloading (crashes the download, but can be restarted).
Cheers
Tony

Cheers Tony I've just nabbed a mate's LG G5 running Android v6.0.1 (out of the box stock Android, not rooted, nothing fancy). Downloaded build 57 from the playstore and yes it fails on larger files. It looks like it finishes the download and fails as it's transferring from cloud to device (unzipping?), then it fails with "file error". I can't really install "beta" and the beta versions on his phone but if there's a build you can release to the playstore (or email me an apk) you want me to test), I'll see how happy he is for me to try again. Cheers Tony

Can you pm me his email? I can send him the beta invite. I've just tried build 64 on his LG G5 and it now fails after downloading with "could not create directory". It does this with all files, less than 100mb as well as above 100mb. Cheers Tony

Build 65 - still didn't work on LG, but have a bit more info for you. Downloaded Sherlock Holmes Perfidious Mariner (165mb) fine Downloaded ...ish (266mb), looked like it was trying unzip - took ages (circular progress bar going round for a good 4 minutes) and then app crashed (Big Finish App has stopped) Logged back in and tried ...ish again, came up with "Download Status Failed" Tried to download The Abandoned (214mb) and app crashed (as above).
It looks to me like it is downloading fine, but then (for whatever reason) it messes up when trying to unzip large files.
Not sure if this helps?
Cheers
Tony

My testing showed that MediaMetadataRetriever could not get the metadata for the files and that MediaPlayer cannot play the file. It's really strange, and only affects these LG devices so far.

While my downloads don't generally fail, I have found that the app seems to leave the most recent zip file in cache after unpacking. This can overuse storage by up to 700MB, which on a 16GB device hurts.

What cache do you see them in? Is it the app cache or something else? (screenshot might help) Latest version should delete the zip file when done, or delete partial unzips if it fails.

It's when I go into system settings and check on storage, then drill down into used space. If I clear all system cache, then do a download and check again, the amount of the cache is the same as the download. If I do a second download without clearing cache, the cache doesn't become the total of the two, it changes to equal the new download size. I didn't think of checking the settings for the app to see if it was happening in the cache listing there as well. Will post screenshots when able

Here are system and app cache before downloading and both after downloading Revenge of the Swarm

Build 20066 might fix the LG problem. Let me know if it works or not.

Open question loaded the app on my Droid phone running 5.1. So my issue is say I am listening to the second recording in a set of 4, I am half way through the track, I cannot stop it and then play track 1 of the four, not without force quitting the app and starting again. Ideas what is it that I am doing wrong, or is this something that will get fixed

When you've got one disc loaded up on your screen, press back to get to the title lost and pick something else then play.

You can also try the "track" button at the top right.
If you mean that you can't change the "disc" within the same story, that's all up to how Big Finish encodes the files. I've noticed lately that they haven't been embedding chapter marks into the newer releases. Is that what you're talking about?

Build 20070 uses ExoPlayer instead of MediaPlayer. I believe this will allow the m4b files to play on LG devices. Could everyone please test this version. This is a sort of "deep" change that I want tested before releasing to the general public.
LG users, delete your titles and re-download. They should downoad the m4b files which work a lot nicer than the mp3 versions. (no tracks, no gaps, embedded chapters, etc.)
Thanks

Build 73
Seems to work fine on Android 5.1.1. Had an issue with 6.0.1 (Nexus 9) - updated app, downloaded a title fine, when I came to play it the app crashed. Reloaded the app but wouldn't play at all (notification player thought it was already playing, but wasn't). I uninstalled the app, reinstalled and everything seems to be ok - no issues with downloading or playing so could just have been a glitch.
Haven't noticed any issues with storage so far.
Cheers
Tony
