It really has been a dream to be a Troughton fanboy in the past decade or so with animation "completing" Power Of The Daleks, The Invasion, The Moonbase, The Ice Warriors and then the returns of Enemy Of The World and (most of) Web Of Fear. I remember when I first started collecting the videos, then DVDs how bare The Second Doctor section was. Now it's more than doubled. What times.

I hope we get Fury from the Deep someday as well as Evil of the Daleks! Both are great to listen to, but I often think they'd be just a shade better with visuals! I suspect that Evil of the Daleks is more likely since it has Daleks. Fury from the Deep would be cool though. Plus they already have the dalek model animations. If it's the same company I'd imagine that would make things a bit cheaper. Not sure how much though. It's 50th aniversary is May next year if they want to tie it in as they have done with power. Not sure if it would be doable in time though. . On the plus side if they did do evil it would make doing other episodes with only 1/2 eps cheaper still if they want to put them through the bbc store route

Not to mention that the Doctor's first regeneration now exists fully on DVD, animated on both sides (TTP #4 and TPOTD #1). I'm thrilled about all of this - I'd thought it was a long shot in the past (and that if they did do it, it would be a four-parter not Power or Evil). Hope it's a sign of more to come.

And somewhere in the flurry of information, I saw that they'll be online for streaming after that. Probably just for the States though. Canadians are probably stuck waiting for the DVD release.

BBC Worldwide to release animation of lost Doctor Who story, The Power of the Daleks on Saturday 5th November, exactly 50 years to the minute after it was first transmitted on BBC One at 5.50pm on Saturday 5th November, 1966 Daleks 2The Doctor 2 Classic story featuring Patrick Troughton’s debut as the Doctor to be released later this year as a digital download on BBC Store and on BBC DVD It's one of the Doctor’s most celebrated adventures and yet no complete film recordings of The Power of the Daleks are known to have survived. The master negatives were destroyed in an archive purge in 1974. BBC Worldwide has announced that a brand new black and white animation based on audio recordings of the programme using the original cast, surviving photographs and film clips will be released 50 years to the minute after its only UK broadcast on BBC One. The six half hour episodes feature the regeneration, or as it was then called ‘renewal’, of First Doctor William Hartnell into Second Doctor Patrick Troughton, as the Time Lord and his companions Polly (Anneke Wills) and Ben (Michael Craze) do battle with the Daleks on the planet Vulcan. Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks is being produced by the team behind the highly successful animation of lost Dad’s Army episode A Stripe For Frazer, first released on BBC Store in February this year. The producer and director is Charles Norton, with character designs from acclaimed comic book artists Martin Geraghty and Adrian Salmon. Charles Norton says, “The Power of the Daleks animation is the most ambitious Doctor Who archive restoration ever attempted and we’re all very honoured to be a part of such a an exciting project. Intelligent, suspenseful and magnificently staged, Power of the Daleks is one of the great lost classics of 1960s television and a superb example of the black and white era at its finest.” Paul Hembury, Executive Producer, BBC Worldwide says, “Charles and his team are remarkably talented and passionate about Doctor Who and we are thrilled that fans will soon be able to enjoy this rather sinister but wonderful, classic story.” Doctor Who: The Power Of The Daleks will be released on BBC Store on Saturday 5th November followed by the DVD on Monday 21st November. Register your interest in the BBC Store download pages.storeuk.bbc.com/thepowerofthedaleksPre-order the DVD from Amazon and HMV (£20.42 RRP) On Saturday 5th November there will be a special screening of episodes 1-3 of Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks at BFI Southbank, London which will also include a Q&A with Anneke Wills, Charles Norton and Frazer Hines. Further information will be available from bfi.org.uk from Monday 19th September.

Fantastic news that this is true, although £20.42 is a shocking RRP for a DVD. Thankfully Amazon are listing it at a cheaper price.

Probably just for the States though. Canadians are probably stuck waiting for the DVD release. As of yet there has been no confirmation that any streaming service in Canada will be carrying this, nor has Space who have the Canadian TV rights for Doctor Who announced if they will air it. At this point it looks like the only way we'll be able to partake in Canada is to either bypass region blocking on the net, or wait impatiently for a region one DVD release.
A Canadian helps create the show and we still can't get any love over here.

That's normal. Pretty much all the single classic doctor who DVD releases was that price I know but it's not right. Thank God Amazon charge less. Not even Blu-ray releases cost £20.42. Its normal though. Most rrp of most things are a lot higher than the price that they sell them for. The rrp of the new captain America blu Ray is 21.99 and is selling for 14.99. The DVD is 17.99 and is going for a tenner. It's normal. I don't get the outrage over the rrp price. It's not like we are going to pay that anyway. Personally I think 13 quid odds is underpriced for what's on it. I expected it to be a couple of quid higher. I personally would have happily paid 21 quid for power. It's a pipe dream release and if it helps more get made it will be worth every penny.

For that price I would expect it to be a three disc Blu-ray packed with a number of special features.

Bought and paid for from Amazon now. Would rather be giving my money to the BBC shop but this is the first Who release since they closed They were always great for delivering Who a few days early too. So odd to have this now sitting in my pre-orders. Wouldn't have believed it mere days ago. Even when it looked more than likely yesteray afternoon I thought the DVD would be months and months behind to give the BBC Store some exclusivity, a la the Netflix Marvel shows on disc. Great day though - ordered that, and Nick's NYC Deli up the road are giving out free donuts till 8. Love a Wednesday!
