The writer's strike of '07 kicked up a stink precisely so that royalties would be guaranteed for film and TV writers. We're talking copyright permissions, rebroadcasting, streaming, DVD and Blu-ray sales and merchandising cuts. Sure, it's a few pennies per unit, but stuff like The Abominable Bride or Tintin sells in the thousands to the millions. Just takes a little math. Had to google The Abominable Bride! I have to admit, I turned off from Sherlock after a while (partly because of staleness and partly because of that final season of Poirot) but The Abominable Bride was actually a pretty nice way of refreshing the premise within the context of the show without making it appear forced or unnecessarily contrived. It used the time-honoured trope of the one-off alternate reality episode to great effect too. I'm surprised by how popular it was though, the damn thing had really strong box office returns when shown in Chinese, Hong Kong and Korean theatres.

I think he should do whatever it is he wants to do, as long as what he wants to do is Superman.

He turned down and/or backed out of some lucrative screenwriting jobs to show run Who, I would imagine he would try to get back in that game. He will probably come back to TV for something. I'm sure he won't be short of offers. I for one would love a follow-up to Jeykll. Oh he will probably take a nice long vacation in there somewhere.

Spielberg chased him to write Tintin for ages, even delaying deadlines to accomodate Moffat. When someone like Spielberg is in your fan club, I don't think you're going to be short of offers.

Maybe Disney will poach him to write a Star Wars film or something... "So wait, you went back in time before the Death Star blew up to blow up the Death Star...but then you had to go further back to plant the explosives...meanwhile your future self was acquiring the explosives to plant for you to find, while your present self and Yoda helped your past self find the future self's lightsaber to be used in a present fight against a past Darth Vader whilst the past Death Star travels into the future using a time engine that can only be destroyed with explosives from your future self placed by your past self whilst your past self was fighting the past Darth Vader? Can I have a flow chart please, Mr Skywalker?"

I still think he should swap mediums for a while and look into comic books, his style is perfect for them.
I can see him doing a stand alone issue or a graphic novel, but not a regular run. He has two kids to put through university!
