Some more Castle, a few episodes of Rebels, the first half of Castlevania's new season (hamartia, hamartia everywhere), and three-quarters of Martian Successor Nadesico (which in the age of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Orvilles has aged startlingly well in its unusual tone).

The Life and Loves of a She-Devil
I had only watched the Hollywood movie version of “She-Devil” before this but had been curious to try the tv series for a while. Having watched the first episode I am honestly baffled in hind sight of how Hollywood could take a plot that in the British tv series is a psychological horror suspense story with elements of very dark black comedy and satire and turn turn it into a a feel good straight forward comedy movie! I enjoyed the first episode although I think I watched it far to late at night! This show is honestly very unpleasant and disturbing, I mean I think it’s meant to be, but it did it’s job a little too well. The tone of it reminded me a lot of something Pemberton and Shearsmith would write with all the over the top twisted grotesque camp. I think I might continue on with it, because I did enjoy it on some strange level, but I will have to watch it earlier on in the day because I think it gave me nightmares last night.
Sidenote: Again the extreme contrast between the tones and genres of this British tv version and the Hollywood movie version are so absurd it almost feels like a parody of Hollywoodization of British tv shows and movies!

Over the past week I've watched the 1990 version of 'The Flash' for the first time, which I pleasantly enjoyed, and 2002's 'Birds Of Prey' for the second (I last saw it in 2014 around the time I was finishing university). There were parts that I can remember from last time but, well, I will say that it was nice to see it again...
From tomorrow I shall be needing some pretty large cups of coffee as I make my start on 'Arrow' for the first time (as it took me about a month to get caught up with 'Supergirl' when series 6 started, I dread to think how long this one'll take!)

Tim Firth's 2000 BBC series "Border Cafe". A rock star quits at the height of her fame to return to the small town on the English/Welsh border where she grew up, to spend time with her builder boyfriend and open a cafe that becomes home to a series of eccentric customers, with a waitress who played her in a copycat band till they sacked her as now surplus to requirements...
This series (produced by Steven Moffat's mother-in-law, I believe) may possibly have been uploaded to a certain video website. I remember it being very funny and quirky, but not how incredibly *sad* it all is.

I've kind of been sucked into a Stargate rewatch. Not watching it with someone else, just, been talking to someone I know who has watching through it for the first time ever over the last month or so and in the last week has inspired me to dive back into it too. I'm already half a dozen episodes into SG-1 season 2

Hmm, wasn’t sure what to make of this week’s Inside No. 9. Comfortably the weakest of the series for me. I think it played its hand too late. It must have been 10-15 minutes before Steve Pemberton and Adrian Dunbar appear and the twist seems so obvious throughout. Of course, in typical Inside No. 9 fashion it doesn’t end up being the case, but as it doesn’t do anything or seeds anything else, that final shot fell flat for me.
I did enjoy Adrian Dunbar’s glorified cameo, and it gave me the laughs of the episode, but I think I might have been expecting something else. This has been a rare episode of IN9 that’s been promoted, the most since Dead Line I’d say, so I was expecting more laughs and more Dunbar based on the way it was advertised.
Still, not awful and due to my thoughts I’m actually more excited to listen to the podcast tomorrow than usual. It’s brilliant that Derek Jacobi is getting another stab at the show next week too.

NCIS Los Angeles S12E18 - the season finale. WOW.. Lots going on. Season 13 should be very interesting.. Episode 1 should set the tone. I caught a couple of Reviews I'm Fuming 11 years wasted on that Arc! Regards mark687 Actually have watched it in full now and it was weird, it was Nonsense Comedy but at same time it could've served as a Final End Regards mark687

Speaking of LA, actually... The final half of Lucifer's Season 5. Consistently marvellous. One of Netflix's best acquisitions from the realm of cancelled television.

Mystic Quest I know almost nothing about video games (I wasn’t allowed to play most video games growing up ) but I really enjoy this show! Its funny, I care about the characters, and it made me appreciate the all the artistry, hard work and creativity that goes into video games. The dynamic kind of reminds me a bit of Community. Which is appropriate since Danny Pudi is in it even if he is ironically playing basically the polar opposite of Abed and the only non nerdy character on the show(he is very convincing as a sleazy business man). I really love this whole cast especially Poppy, Ion, the two test player girls, and F. Murray Abraham. The standalone episode 5 was really good and I was surprised at how much it made me care about the artistic integrity of “Dark Quiet Death” and the couple who created it. There are also some of the best plot twists I have seen on a sitcom since The Good Place! I screamed during episode 8! I am almost done season 1 and am very curious where things are going next!

Over the past week I've been making my way through 'Arrow' for the first time (I'm a little over halfway through series 2), and I'm certainly enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would!
This evening I've been watching the 9-1-1/Lone Star crossover from this February, and it's certainly... Something, I guess? There are bits that I've enjoyed but, like with some of the other crossovers I've seen recently (I think 'Chicago'), whilst I will happily consider giving the next crossover a watch, I don't know if I am in a hurry to watch either show regularly... EDIT - You know what would be helpful with crossovers? If you watch the right episode for part two... (Face-palms) EDIT 2 - Now that I've seen the *correct* 'Lone Star' episode, I can say that this was certainly the better of the two episodes, and one that I could (theoretically) see myself putting on in the background should it air on UK TV... But yeah, as a whole, as I said, I don't know if I would really go 'out of my way' to watch them outside of that or crossovers...

And that’s it for another series of This Time With Alan Partridge. Very funny and some great recent continuity with Alan’s Oasthouse podcast from last year.

But what about {Spoiler} the tooth badge? IS MICHAEL ALIVE?!

But what about {Spoiler} the tooth badge? IS MICHAEL ALIVE?! The tooth badge was intended to be representative of some showbiz equivalent of the Freemasons, I recall Coogan mentioning it during promotion for Series 1. I certainly hope Michael is alive! I’ve seen people on Twitter mention the guy is Michael’s brother that ran off with his wife. Again, some cracking continuity if that’s the case.
I don’t think Alan will be getting a third series of This Time, so I think there’s scope for something with Michael popping up. I’m pretty sure a historical mockumentary has been filmed as the next TV Partridge; Scissored Isle meets the outside broadcasts from This Time! I think it was filmed shortly after the first series of This Time aired, as I recall it was the reason Coogan managed to avoid a driving ban!

Britbox's first original drama, The Beast Must Die. Very good opening episode with the brilliant pairing of Cush Jumbo & Jared Harris as respectively the vengeful bereaved mother of a child killed in a hit & run & the potential perpetrator.

The Trap Door, which I could explain but honestly the opening does it with considerable aplomb. A childhood gem of Gothic whimsy.

I rarely watch TV (apart from a bit of Antiques Road Trip, Richard Osman's House of Games and a bit of sport) but yesterday I resumed my first watch-thru of Jonathan Creek with the enjoyable 'Black Canary'.
Right Mayall guests stars as a sharp, eccentric detective.

The Beast Must Die episode 2, a really intriguing thriller. Aside, Cush Jumbo is on my list of potential Dr Whos & I think Jared Harris would be great opposite her as The Master. There's real chemistry, tension & danger in their scenes together in this show.

Life and Loves of a She-Devil
Having just finished the tv series it was very satisfying. Very different to the movie adaptation, this version is much more horror than comedy. The plastic surgery scenes in particular made me feel a bit queasy! The Frankenstein references were very apt! I have to admit I felt slightly bad for Mary Fisher in this version. Yes she made mistakes by sleeping with a married man but she genuinely seemed very sympathetic and even vulnerable. I felt like did not deserve the fate the she Devil enacted on her, but perhaps that’s the point and our lead character Ruth is unreliable narrator. Ruth is a compelling but terrifying main character! This was a sometimes comedic and more often than not very disturbing and grotesque but over all compelling tv series.
Sidenote: After seeing Tom Baker play a priest in this I have now headcannon his character as a chameleon arched 4!
Sidenote:The plastic surgery scenes were so creepy, I will be lucky if I don’t have nightmares! I will probably wake up in the middle of the night to make sure my legs are still the same length!
