Hello again.
I don't seee why not, after all you watch them on tv and the drama at some sporting events is just as thrilling as finding out who 'H' is. However, if you feel a dedicated sports fans thread is needed why not create one. so long as it does not descend into the dreadful trolling that goes on at the Have your say comments sections on the BBC Sport website we'll be fine. Who won the 1987 Grand Prix, Mr Mansell? Take care williamsfan92.

Congratulations. But what was the last TV show you watched. Would you prefer it if I didn't post sporting events on here? No complaints on my end. You are watching something that’s made for television so this thread seems like a perfect place for it.

Jekyll episode 1 I distinctly remember the ads for this show coming on bbc America when it first aired in the US and being very curious and creeped out. Now I finally decided to watch it as it’s a Steven Moffat show I have never watched and I love it! It’s very cheesy and not remotely scary at all, but it is a lot of fun! Is it wrong I find Hyde kind of sexy? Also a lot of later Moffat tropes are used here before we see them when Moffat became showrunner of DW. Glad I am watching it even if it isn’t at all frightening!

Schmigadoon!
I love this show so much I feel like it was made for me! 😊It’s deeply silly with its musical numbers and romances! I love the overly fake sets and colorful costumes as well! I think they spoofed at least five different classic musicals in the first two episodes.
Sidenote: There definitely needs to be a BF DW story in the style of schmigadoon at some point!

Bones
It has aged really well. A startlingly grounded crime procedural with an emphasis on forensic anthopology and American federal law. Back in the days of terrestrial television, we had Bones first and Castle as a palette cleanser straight afterwards. For a show that started in mid-2000s, it did a very good job of avoiding the wave of gritty for the sake of gritty. The subject matter is, naturally, quite intense (including an episode where the characters are quarantined over Christmas), but there's an airiness and a freedom to the cast involved that helps balance it out. Dark without bleak. It strikes a good balance.

Loki - Hmm. This has been an odd show. I’ve enjoyed every individual episode leading up to the finale, but as a whole, I didn’t really “get” it or felt it came together. The first two episodes were brilliant and I wish it’d stayed as a buddy cop dynamic with Loki & Mobius, with the time travel thrown in for good measure. Instead it seems to change direction every episode or two and doesn’t have that coherent “feel”. I appreciate the above thoughts seem at odds with being a Doctor Who fan, but I think the difference is Doctor Who is written as standalone, with some overarching storylines that don’t really overwhelm. Loki is written as an epic, but puts us in a different scenario each episode. Essentially producing some good standalone material, but a mess of a show. I’ll put my actual thoughts on the finale in spoilers, just to be safe. The finale I didn’t really enjoy. Seems as though they’d realised they had spent too long diverting in the previous few episodes, so to get back on track they quickly did away with the TVA element and then did a massive amount of exposition.
The Loki & Sylvia material at the end was quite nice. Loki is a narcissist, so much that he can’t even fall in love with a variant because she’s not him! Very faithful to the character. However, I can’t say I’ve been a big fan of Sylvie; I haven’t connected with her so in my eyes she’s part of the reason I preferred the dynamic with Loki & Mobius.
And just what has Loki achieved throughout the whole show? It ended exactly where it began, albeit with Kang statues littered about the place. But the TVA are seemingly none the wiser. Ultimately it feels like it started off well but quickly became too concerned with setting up future events in MCU that hindered the show itself. Here’s hoping Season 2 is an opportunity to reassess.

The 1992 British Grand Prix. Nigel Mansell had to be taken to the podium in a rescue van. It reminded me of the scene in ‘Terror of the Autons’ where the police had to rescue the Doctor and Jo. I will also be watching the sprint race for this years British Grand Prix in a few minutes.

I will also be watching the sprint race for this years British Grand Prix in a few minutes. Clearly a fan of Moto GP as much as Doctor Who I see you listed 'Senna' as a top 10 favourite film. I watched that a few years ago when I bought the DVD and agree it is a good tribute to the man. I remember my Dad was a keen fan of his back in the day and his untimely death was like the passing of John Lennon and Diana at the time for a shock ending. I still remember the news then morning and going out to get the paper to read up on it (no Internet back then), which we kept, as you did. How to you rate Lewis Hamilton? A great driver undoubtedly and once again its good to see that GB still has one area of sports where we can still win, but technology has taken such a hold over driver skill, with races decided on microseconds almost, so that the machinery, technology and team efficiency such as pit stop changes can make as much of a difference. As such it is easy to underestimate his abilities, perhaps. Where do you feel the balance lies? Is it a combination of best driver and team/car, or does he have the edge on his own? Interested as to your thoughts on this.

This is Moto GP: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racingCaught out on a non Doctor Who topic. That sounds about right! Maybe I am just showing my age, Grand Prix was how it was 'back in the day' (Moto - Motor - I am no expert regards motorsports). But then again. League Division One was the top of the tier in Football back when we used to do 'The Pools'... At least Grand Prix is still in use: www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/oct/21/raikkonen-wins-us-grand-prix-as-hamilton-f1-title-/

Campion: Sweet Danger - parts 1 & 2 (1990)
Peter Davison, Brian Glover (Attack of the Cybermen) Iain Cuthbertson (Ribos Operation), Lysette Anthony & David Haig (Leisure Hive) amongst others.
One of the best of the Margery Allingham adaptations (and novels). Its been a while since the family have watched one of these and its always a pleasure to revisit.
Nick Briggs was asked in the letters of Vortex a few years back, about the possibility of continuing these on Audio, but he felt they were perhaps not commercial enough. A pity, as I would have been 100% likely to buy. One of the best and most prominent lead acting roles for Peter Davison alongside Doctor Who, All Creatures Great & Small & A very Peculiar Practice.
Hide my Eyes and Tiger in the Smoke are recognised literary works in their own right and no doubt difficult to capture as a serialised televised adaptation (which is why they were skipped, though Tiger in the Smoke was filmed sans Campion in 1956). It is notable that our Albert Campion is on the periphery in these, but they could work well very as an audio play perhaps, owing to their strangeness and sinister characterisations and settings. Memorable reads that stay with you. The thinking persons Agatha Christie, as she has been described.
Recommended.
Side note: Bernard Horsfall (The Deadly Assassin) was the first televised Campion (1959-1960), but his episodes are lost.

2003 British Grand Prix. This race is famous for a man running onto the track during the race. It was the same man that ran into the course at the marathon for the 2004 Olympics. This years British Grand Prix will hopefully be a thriller.
