Maybe that one is an effort at (more or less) historically accurate misspelling, since it's probably prefaced by "Here Lyes"...? (Possibly like the Collinsport Jail sign reading "Collinsport Gaol"?) There were at least a couple of character names that went wrong in that the characters were originally introduced with different names - Amy and Edward (originally Molly and Oscar! - oh and of course Dr. Julius Hoffman). So yeah, why worry if you occasionally get a name slightly wrong? It's very Dark Shadows. :-) Dark Shadows Wiki always says Julian Hoffman. Isn't the story that the 'n' got dropped by accident?

I seem to think I'm lip reading Robert Gerringer directly from memory, but that is no doubt what I'd like to think. Usually the story is that if someone got a name wrong, it was me, but I see both Julian and Julius each used in a number reference materials. (I probably took notes on this once and have no idea where they are now). Maybe both names were used before the show got it sorted out?)

It's just "Dr Hoffman" and "he's the best man in the field" or something similar.
I loved Robert Gerringer, he was great. I miss Dave. Proper Dave. Not either of the Other Daves.

'Last Orders at the Blue Whale' is excellent. Lovingly written and acted, and I'm still really enjoying the Robert Cobert/David Darlington music. This final (?) Harry Johnson story could be seen as box-ticking in lesser hands, plugging a gap in television continuity. But, of course, it is far, far more than that, and thoroughly entertaining. If it is a send-off for Mrs J's pride and joy, then it's a good 'un. A lovely start to the latest anthology.

The Scarlet Bride by Ian Atkins
This was my first exposure to Barnabas as Andrew Collins and I have to say that his voice was very fitting for both the character and the reading. Using the letters to tell the story was a very good idea and it was a very good way to spend a half hour. 9/10.

I apologize to all the Big Finish Gods for not doing so sooner. Seriously tho, I just never got around to listen to it. I do think that will be rectified as soon as possible.

In the bible, Lamech is the father of Noah... Not that I want to nail down the connection between the characters, but rest assured there were long, long, long... discussions between me and Joe & Davy re: who was playing which character, and what tweaks we might make as a result. Now there is dedication for you! (Whereas whenever I want to name some new Dark Shadows characters, I just sit around a pub quaffing pints and lobbing darts at The Good Book until the barmaid makes me stop). ;-) Don't suppose I catch all of it, but sometimes I do notice some of the TLC you guys put into these stories like that, and it certainly is admired and appreciated.

Bloodlust is not to be missed. It is literally epic. Everyone who doesn't have it must get it at the first available opportunity.
(And, no - I'm not saying that just because Barnabas is in it). :-)

'The Scarlet Bride' is another very strong story and very different in tone to 'Last Orders'. When Andrew Collins first became Barnabas way back in, what, 'The House of Despair', I wasn't sure of him. To be honest, his portrayal tended to stick very much to the 'menacing' without embracing the tragedy and longing that Jonathan Frid brought to the role. Looking back, I think it took me a while to warm to him simply because he wasn't Jonathan Frid, which is ridiculous of me. Either he has improved or I have got used to him, but I find him excellent in the role now, and perfectly cast. He is a terrific, emotive and 'crisp' narrator and I look forward to hearing more from him soon.

I finally got to listen to the other stories on this CD today.
Dear God. This is a really strong release (I am obviously excluding myself from this). Ian, Ian and Penny have done great stories that totally captivate.
I am so pleased to rub shoulders with these guys on this set. They are so good!

Dear God. This is a really strong release (I am obviously excluding myself from this). Agreed, everything I've heard of it so far (3/4 of it) is some brilliant writing and performing. Don't exclude yourself, though - you came up with such a strong story even for it being about a generally very unpopular character that it made a fantastic opening to the set, no less. (I think also that your story has increased my appreciation of Harry Johnson considerably, which is another very impressive thing about it).
